No it's not. That's the whole point of the later seasons. Elliot's "revolutionary" ideas are just taken out of old school leftist playbooks. That stuff was red meat for certain demographics early on, but it's also economically illiterate. He realizes his folly after a while though. The show does a thoroughly eh job at capturing how monetary systems work. I mean this whole thing about "E-coin" becoming the world standard? Never gonna happen, when the government is literally the only debtor out there which can defer bankruptcy for 75 years. Bureaucrats don't just hand over the reigns to their corporate counterparts. In fact, as perverse as it is bureaucrats tend to assume more power during these kinds of crisis.
@DavidAndersen844 жыл бұрын
No. It is of one mind, cemented in pessimism. In the end nihilism leads to destruction of what dreamers create. His character is deeply flawed, so his view of the world is too. If he is a hero, then it s of a world he will never rebuild.

As in, people are poor in africa because capitalism is dependant on people being poor(er) than you to supply cheap labour for your products that you consume. I get where you’re coming from, but I think that was more to put us in the mind of Elliot. Elliot is someone who (For many reasons) is naturally detached from reality, and especially since this is the pilot episode, I think it’s important for the writers to make us understand that integral aspect of his character. Now, you could make the argument that it’s needlessly heavy handed and I would honestly understand that, but given that we’re following a character who naturally is not in touch with the rest of the world, I think that moment is perfectly appropriate.

It’s over the top and a bit nihilistic if you ask me. I mean, the montage of celebrities who’ve cheated, done hateful things, committed crimes, etc etc… it’s easy to make that kind of compilation given what we’re exposed to by the media. But what about the millions of honest, hard working people that are not like that. Who love and work hard to support their friends, families and neighbors? And many people like that are successful people too. But you don’t get into the news by being a decent person…. It’s part of the reason why we remember the names of serial killers but we almost never recognize the officers or other people who were responsible for bringing them down… think about that… it’s easy to be a cynic and to say “fuck society”.
