Still trying to find some good concrete slabs and studio foam.. is concrete really the best? I have heard many arguments about marble/stone/slate/concrete and other stones for different resonant frequencies and stuff.. I guess with the combinations shown here it would get rid of any issues from the concrete further up the stack. Going to try to replicate this bottom half myself, towel, concrete, electrical tape + squash balls, but to replace foam I am going to try Auralex Iso-Tones, and Luke ASB-1 absorber maybe as a double MDF (with sorbothane in the middle) isolation platform. Replacing the two foam pads and single MDF shown here. I use Isonoe feet too but also with some Techniboots. Was thinking maybe a sand filled MDF box might help too.. I realise these are Vestax decks, but has anyone had experience sorbothane lagging a Technics 1200 platter or case/body? I'd love to know the best spots.. I love this video, watch it over and over to keep providing new ideas and as a good starting formula for turntable isolation. Huge huge thanks from Australia, where if you want a decent turntable setup in a club, you better be willing to bring all the stuff for it yourself xD

Sounds like a mash up of Ing by Mungo's Hi Fi (ft Brother Culture) and Ug by Scruff.

Any info on specifically which Grado cartridges are "the best dj cartridges"? Also what tone arm is he using?
@Ninja_Gaijin7 жыл бұрын
no idea but presume he means their 'DJ' line.. which are still supposedly really hard to DJ with, as far as back cueing and scratching: www.discogs.com/group/thread/641795 - he is using newer Vestax decks though, which might work (especially with his upgraded tonearms) compared to Technics 1200 mk2s, the club standard still to this day. I personally so sick of when I played / owned two Vestax (kept one for nostalgia/third deck never use) - the pitch is entirely different (has a curve) compared to technics 1200 linear pitch fader.. so very high or low pitch fader setting is very inaccurate and hard to work. But more precise near 0%. Stupid I think, compared to Technics linear..

talk about overkill on the tt padding!

Actually not really. Huge subs + wooden stage + turntables = acoustic bass feedback at least.. and as he said, skipping records. You also want to absorb the energy coming from the turntable.. otherwise it resonates and affects the sound coming out of it. It's not a huge thing but something audiophiles worry about. And clearly since he is using those Grado carts (presumably the 'DJ' carts) he would think about this (the reason to 'sorbothane lag' the platter/turntable - to stop any resonance inside the platter or turntable itself degrading sound) - since even their 'DJ' carts are pretty hard to use in a DJ or scratching context from what I've heard. But they would probably sound sweet lol. Also as he says, 'to make sure records don't skip' - if you want to be able to slam the mixer (if you are using a DJ unlike in this video) or dance like a lunatic on a wooden stage while playing records, you are going to want something like this. It's pretty embarrassing dancing hard on stage and having the needle skip, or someone bump the booth or stage and have it skip.. this sort of setup reduces those possibilities. Sorry to rant.. TL:DR, there's no such thing as overkill when it comes to playing vinyl insanely loud :)

not really - there's a few dozen KW of subs next to the stage. Subbass turntable feedback can be a real b*tch !
@Ninja_Gaijin7 жыл бұрын
ah I just saw your reply, after saying same thing hehe. Had turntable feedback from subs last gig.. was embarrassing. Do I turn the volume down?? Urgh.. no, I deal with it and think about how quickly for next gig I can get concrete slabs and squash balls lol. Because no matter what the Isonoe folks may tell you, they are not enough by themselves with wooden stages/booths... maybe with a steel desk like in this video.

WTF... Just keep the speakers off the stage, and a simple gel isolation pad LOL!!! Plus gank decks and way to much pre-amp. Keep it simple, your at a live gig, the munted masses a'int gonna tell HAHAHA.
