Interesting comparison - My personal experience riding in Southern California (Mecca for Goathead thorns) is that Tannus proves worthy. I have used several "liners" and none worked as needed. I've had the Tannus inserts w/tubes for about 6 months now and not 1 flat. I thought it would be interesting to count the thorns I picked up and pulled out, over 50 so far. I once used Tannus Armour and after a while both the front and rear Armour compressed permanently to about 1/8 of an inch in thickness. I got a flat from a small metal shaving in the front tire and it went right through the Tannus Armour. I tried riding with a front tire flat with the Tannus Armour and stopped because I was concerned about the rim becoming damaged. I no longer use Tannus Armour and use some tire liners with Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB Smart Guard. They are heavy tires and are advertised as being thick enough to not get flats from objects the size of a thumbtack. I road several thousand miles without any flats. If your bike tires are as flat resistant as car tires, that is ideal. Objects like screws and nails that give car tires a flat will also give you bike tires a flat unless you have airless tires or airless tire liners.

I have 2 Juiced Ripcurrent S for the last two years and had the Mr. Tuffy's in both and never had a flat. I switched to Tannus Armour and Maxxis Minion tires. If you can do a battery range test Full to flat between the Tannus and Mr Tuffy on the same ebike and tires I would like to see those results.

That's what keeps me from getting them. I've heard mixed opinions on the resistance, but I don't see how it's not gonna be a little too squishy and slow for road use. Trails, I'll be on them all day. Absolutely. But for an ebike that spends more time on the road, I think I'd rather stick to double skin tubes. The amount a slightly too low tire slows you down, and drains the battery is substantial enough for me to skip them. Sucks because I like the idea and really want them, but I'll wait until I do up a straight trail ride. I really wish they would get on different composition/hardness options. And I mean it's not like they're super overpriced. But especially the fatties, are a little ridiculous for a little piece of molded foam. You don't really have much choice if you need them, and I wouldn't mind the price if I do end up needing them enough. But I've only got two flats in the past year, and both could have potentially gone right through the t.a. anyway. Big spike of glass, and then metal. Idk. Doubling an old tube or two has kept out the little dumb stuff, so.

*Want a really smooth ride? Take some baby powder (or foot powder) and put about 1/4 cup over the tire as well as inside the tire casing, dumping some in and turning the tire in your hand so the Baby Powder (talic) evenly distributes. This will make for a very supple ride as you prevent the tire from sticking to the tire casing inside which also increases chafing and hence tube wear and seam leaks). I have been a UBI Pro Mechanic and used this for bikes since the early 90's Even for ebikes too. (My first was an "ebike" but Ebike brand from 1999) For my spare tube I keep one in a ziplock bag with the talic in coating everything nice. Trust me it really makes a huge difference!*

My observation on the Mr Tuffy liners. Yes, they do reduce the goats head thorn punctures. If you get a tuff thorn and it breaks off and the pointy part stays in the tire after more riding the thorn WILL get thru the tube. Yes the rolling resistance is less, however the ride over gravel/sidewalk cracks is much rougher.
@TheFXofNewton2 жыл бұрын
With Slime liners I've got numerous things embedded in the tire and even take small chunks out of tires, revealing the green lining without puncturing. Have had flats from thorns just missing the liner, though.

UPDATE. I knew I read it somewhere, so I got out my Tannus installation guide and on page 3 under Tips For Installing Tannus Armour it states (It is common for the Amour to compress over time. It still is providing shock absorption and puncture resistance but will perform better when properly maintained. To minimize compression deflate the tires while not use. This allows the Armour compound to rebound to provide ideal performance.) So does that mean when your not riding your bike, your suppose to let the air out of the tires? I'm sorry but that's not happening. I don't know how everyone else feels, but if I would have known that earlier, I would not have purchased the Armours.

You should mention the weight factor. Which one weighs more, Tannus, or Mr Tuffy?
@Sherman186211 ай бұрын
With the Tanus do you think I could install 2.20 Slime Tubes in a 4 inch Tire since the Tanus Insert will displace a lot of Tire Volume?? Also, is the weight difference between Mr. Tuffy and Tanus very noticeable?? Thank you! Great Content and very Helpful!!! I'm getting a Wired freedom this month!!! Getting ready for its arrival and already planning upgrades. PS I hate changing flats while on a Ride!!! ; ) lol

I have both Mr Tuffy and Tannus in the rear and have NEVER had a problem. Have just Mr Tuffy in the front ands all is well Just FYI

Can you do both???
@MER1CA_1st3 жыл бұрын
@@chaguito69 you can do both, but if you're on a budget mr. Tuffy is the way to go. I have a specialized fatboy & have mr. Tuffy on both front & back. Easy to install & it does the job on the base of the wheels. If you're an aggressive rider & go thru bushes, you might need the extra sidewall protection & Tannus would be your best bet🤔

I made a pedaled fat bike so I'm wondering how much weight the tannus foam inserts add to the bike?
@derykmacleod49793 жыл бұрын
I added the tannus armour to my diy ebike, a 2019 Montague Paratrooper and a Bafang Mid Drive. It was hard getting the tube and tannus on the 1.95" tires I have on the bike. My next build, hoping to be my reward when the fed finally approves my disability I want a fat tire recumbent electric mountain bike! i tried a ride at the beach and it was a nogo. I am running 20lbs of pressure in the innertubes I do like the softer ride feel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Tannus doesn't run flat with 26x4 tires right?

I have been running liners since they first hit the market , ugh ,,, 22+ years ( gee now I 'm old ) . Those Tannus look interesting . In the 1970s bmx riders had solid polyurethane " Honeycomb tread" tires . Some loved them and some hated them .

Have you checked the Tannus liner? I am now seeing reports about these foam failures.

If you use the tannus in your tire does it change the air tire pressure? Like say if you run 25 and you use the tannus would you put 20 because it is now less room because of the padding?

Aren't u supposed to wrap that on top of the tube? U seemed to shove both on there, idk, how do u know it's in the correct position?
@CitizenCycle925 Жыл бұрын
the Tannus is shaped just like the tire, i usually stuff it in there first then slip the tube inside it. you could also put the tube in the tannus first then shove both in the tire at same time, either way it pretty easy to fit.

This liner are expensive but ended up buying a 20x4 and 26x4 for my 2 big sur ebikes. Pain to install them. My question will be , do I leave them like that, or should I go tubeless? By the way a have the tannus the other ones can cause punture between the inner tube and the liner if the psi is low and ride it like that

I ride a recumbent trike and have the tannus airless tires. But thinking of going back to Schwalbe Big Apple Plus tires 2.15" wide and put the Tannus Armour in....wonder what this does to the rolling resistance. Looking for a tire for riding on gravel and rail trails along with roads.

i have taken it out before and yes it gets pretty thin, i think the higher you have the tire pressure the thinner it gets.

The question not asked or answered, what about both? When I do Mr. Tuffy, I use strips of black tape to hold the liner to the tube, and when it gets to a certain pressure, the tape releases but everything is in place.

Hi CC - great video as always. Would it hurt to put the liners and tannus or is it overkill?

Better Idea use the knew cement block tires. They are impervious to flats, and stay at a constant 100 psi!

I've had the tannus on my Radrunner since March this year. Only 1 flat and that's because some A-Hole shot at me with a Pellet gun. How do I know I was shot at? The Pellet was inside my Rim when I changed the Tube. 😡
