I just did my Himiway Cruiser with the Tannus liners. Before I installed them I wiped the inside of my tires and the inner tubes with baby powder. Everything went very easily. The baby powder helps everything slide better and seat the tire inside the Tanus liner. Also the bit of baby powder residue where the tire bead is helps the tire align properly when inflating it. I also added 12 oz of multi-purpose FlatOut. There was a test done by Bolton eBikes recently where they tested different liners and liquid tire sealant and the combination of the Tannus liners with the FlatOut was the best.

Robert from nearby Byron Center. Thanks again for your contribution! I had a flat tire at just 50 miles on the odo and rather than get a $25 tube from Village Bike I decided to order Tannus inserts. QuietKat had them in stock. Had to wait a bit but it was worth it. While following your instructions I found the source of the flat. It was a cm long shard of glass which wouldn't have been a flat had I already had the Tannus. Thanks again and possibly I'll see you on Lake Shore Dr next summer.

UPDATE. I knew I read it somewhere, so I got out my Tannus installation guide and on page 3 under Tips For Installing Tannus Armour it states (It is common for the Amour to compress over time. It still is providing shock absorption and puncture resistance but will perform better when properly maintained. To minimize compression deflate the tires while not use. This allows the Armour compound to rebound to provide ideal performance.) So does that mean when your not riding your bike, your suppose to let the air out of the tires? I'm sorry but that's not happening. I don't know how everyone else feels, but if I would have known that earlier, I would not have purchased the Armours.
@TinkeringTurtle2 жыл бұрын
It means once and a while they recommend that you allow the Armour to rebound. I have over 2700+ miles on my bike and have never had an issue. You could consider deflating your tires over winter, other than that I feel your fine. Enjoy your ride!

Hi Tim, I hope you've been well. Recently, my wife had a flat tire on her Himiway Cruiser. Of course it had to be the back tire! LOL. Anyway, I had installed Tannus Armour liners about 2 years ago but I was surprised when I took the tire off the rim to repair the inner tube, that the liners were now thin. They no longer had that cushion like they did when new. I reached out to Tannus and was told that they will compress and I should air down the tires monthly and put the bike in the sun to help decompress the liners and for better results, to remove the liners and leave them in the hot sun for several hours. I thought that was a strange response. Who is going to do that every month? What are your thoughts on this? I can forward the email response I received if you like. Rob
@TinkeringTurtle7 ай бұрын
I have heard that before. I didn’t realize they wanted you to do it monthly, but I have heard they wanted you to let it relax. I personally don’t. So mine are likely thinned out. I figure they still give some protection, just not as much. I haven’t been purchasing them for new bikes, but I have been re-using them when switching tires. I went to a new type of tire and so far I haven’t had any flats. I think the knobby tires that come with the bike tend to catch debris and sets it up for a puncture. My new tires don’t seem to catch the debris the same way. They just roll over them. They do feel a little different while riding … more grippy. But once you’re used to it, it is really nice. I show them in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoDciJebitlqqtU

I haven’t. I do run the tire pressure fairly high at 25psi, so that may be part of it. but they are just fine.

The website says you need a slightly smaller tube for this. Has there been an issue with your tires since this install? All good?
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
When I spoke with the Tannus support team, they said you can use either the smaller tubes or the stock tubes that came with the bike for fat tires. I haven’t had any issues with the stock tubes in over 2000 miles. All Good!

Do all Himiway Cruisers come with innertubes in the Kenda tires or did you add the tubes first and then the inserts?
@TinkeringTurtle4 жыл бұрын
The Himiway bikes come with tubes. You can down size the tubes per Tannus’s recommendations or just use the original stock tubes. Both work with the armour inserts.

Great video, how good are these things at running flat on a tarmac road?
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
Not good at all on a fat tire. We have had one flat since installing (1600 miles on each of our bikes) and the insert did not work at all for running flat. It popped off the bead immediately.
@boogaloo-4u3 жыл бұрын
@@TinkeringTurtle That sucks because I bought these and smaller tubes ($143 total) to have run flat technology. Company claims the world to sell a product. Sounds like a waste of money. BS
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
Well it may work for regular bike tires, but the fat tires (in my limited experience) pop right off the bead when they go flat. I chose the inserts because I didn’t want sharp debris on the bike paths constantly giving me flats. So far that has worked very well, even though the run flat technology really didn’t happen.
@boogaloo-4u3 жыл бұрын
@@TinkeringTurtle Thx for the response. Subscribed. I've been running Mr Tuffy liners ($50) for years with no issues. Got another fatbike and thought I'd try the latest and greatest flat prevention. The 'run flat' was the main selling feature. All I can do now is install them and purchase another undersized tube to carry. A quite costly project. Will keep you updated. What fat tire and size did you experience the 'off beading" on? I'm running Maxxix Minion 4.8" tires.

@Mike K, I thought I would mention that I spoke with Tannus support when I installed my inserts. They told me that you don’t have to use the smaller tubes for fat tires. The stock size tube works just fine. Just an FYI. I am running a Kenda 26” x 4” fat tire on my Himiway.

I have put on an additional (approximate) 1200 miles since installing the inserts. No issues at all. The stock tubes work perfectly. I verified their use with Tannus support prior to using them. They told me that both sizes work with the fat tire inserts. Hope this helps!

Were you experiencing flats often that made you install Tannus?
@TinkeringTurtle4 жыл бұрын
No, I put these in shortly after receiving my bike as a preventative measure to getting flats. Although I have read about others struggling with multiple flats I a short period. My wife did get a flat after installing these. She picked up an 1 1/2” long nail. It is unlikely that any liner would have stopped the nail.

Tip for you. Always fit the tube into the tire BEFORE fitting the tire onto the rim. That way you dont struggle threading the valve through the rim nor accidentally twisting the tube inside the tire.

Good morning Tim. I finally received my Himiway stepthru , and installed the tannus inserts. Have you heard anything about soft or hard parts in the inserts. Front tire rides fine but the back has a drop or soft spot of about 2 inches per rev. Feels like the rear tire is going over a 2x4 once per rev. pulled tire apart 4 times now, cannot see or feel an issue. Thanks for the great videos and info. Ken

Anything you add to the bike makes it heavier. These are excellent for deterring tire punctures so their worth it. And with an Ebike pedaling is basically the same.
