The rules make it so if you fail the roll of the beliefs, you loose a point in that belief. So every time Mr. teddy doesn't help he gets weaker tell it's just a bear

This sounds like a very interesting game system/mechanics with the PC becoming weaker over time as they start to become teenagers and lose their child like wonder and imagination. Almost a design nod towards "It" by Steven King and "The Chronicles of Narnia" series by C.S. Lewis with the limited time to be effective in this world. Now that said I can totally see and understand the issues and problems with getting a group together and playing this game. It seems like a bunch of topics that most people don't even want to think about let alone talk about. Sorry to hear about the loss of your buddy/doggy. It is always hard to lose one's pet. Also I love the shout out for the BPL. It is because of Mr. Tex that I was introduced to your channel and this brilliant series which is "Mad Musings". Whenever I meet someone who plays tabletop RPG's, but only lists D&D 5e I tell them about your channel and specifically this playlist series.

I remember playing this game with a group after we’d all turned old enough to drink, so by then there wasn’t very much in the game that “frightened,” us. I don’t think I ran it 100% true to the writers intentions, because it was more of a 3rd-Grade, A-Team Ghostbusters, monster-of-the-week smack down where the players characters would convene, figure out who was dealing with what, then Scooby-Doo sawed-off shotgun trapped the monsters kneecaps. Any parental intervention was usually just taken on the nose because the irl player wouldn’t actually be grounded. I remember after one particularly violent exorcism of a haunted closet, one of them got sent to juvie. It was hilarious, like watching a bunch of midget Johnny Knoxvilles running around. Never did fight the pedo-monster, I mentioned it and there was a collective veto against it. Pretty good game.
@markskarr22573 жыл бұрын
Years ago, I came across a game called Furry Heroes. It was a "tactical combat game" about stuffed animals battling childhood monsters. The story behind it was the writer had a very young daughter who was terrified of the "Closet Monster." So, he wrote up the rules, and they had her stuffed animals go into the closet and defeat the closet monster. After that, the girl was never afraid of the closet again. Later editions turned it into an _actual_ wargame, which, I thought, caused it to lose it's magic.

Picked up Changeling the Lost recently, the 7 boogeymen kings would be great Fey Lords for that game. I’d water down what they actually do to people though. The seven still send their servants to abduct children but the end result is a changeling who differs depending on which one took him. Goal of the characters is to stop this from happening to other kids while making certain they don’t get dragged back to Arcadia as well.

I've got very thick skin and very dark humor. I've watched Where The Dead Go To Die, which freaked out my PMC friend, who has spent years in Kabul. I run Call of Cthulhu/Delta Green and have watched a cartload of true crime documentaries of the most devilish things you can imagine. But even I had to switch to 1st edition Ghostbusters for a while, because researching the Goler clan, Jim Jones, Luis Garavito, Béla Kiss or Fritz Honka for inspiration wears on you after a few years. But this game awakened my interest, although 99% of the dudes and gals I play with will lose their shit.

The game itself sounds very creative, very original. Yes, definitely concerning sensitive content, though. Still, those old, unreformed Brother's Grimm type stories are valuable. It's that old fine line between protecting children and preparing them. It would be a bit much to expect anything to overcome that hurdle easily.

I've read the books and its great game but zero chance I'd run or play it. No kids in my play circle and as adults? I can't get my guys to run high school kids for Buffy . Also the ick factor is far too high and while my current group is squared away, I've been with groups where some of the players have trauma. No way.

Sounds grim, and too disturbing to run. My childhood was bad enough. I don't relish the idea of having to go back there, even for XP. I also feel like a lot of this kind of horror is playable in other games where you don't play as children, but you are nearly as powerless relative to what you're up against, like in Call of Cthulhu, and some of the World of Darkness games.
