You by far made the best video explaining the very intricate details which make this job a painful experience. Thanks for taking the time to get it right and posting it! I got a MR2 with a crappy top replacement and this has helped me sort out the leaks I had from it!

Thanks!! It's a pretty detailed job that's hard to actually film!

Just followed your guide, some good pointers thanks. Yeah took a good half day+ to remove correctly. The advantage doing this is you have some reference for the confusing reassembly (instructions ar'nt much help) Luckily my top came with side parts already rivetted and the rear channel doesn't need to be re-rivetted apparently, the bolts are enough. So a good 8-10 hours job - half that if you are experienced and have the right tools to hand.

Rock on!! It's definitely not as easy as you might think, that's for sure! It's 100% doable though! Good job!

What rivet gun did you get? I see there’s a few at Harbor Freight to choose from. Thanks!

Hey Hank, huge fan :) I bought the cheapest one that came with rivets.

how many space did you gain if the softtop was out for good? Your car looked very nice. Pity you sold it!
@OmarBuilds4 жыл бұрын
Same amount of space as the oem top.

@@OmarBuilds Is that like the place behind the seat, doubled? I have no idea, i only own a mx5 atm. :D
@OmarBuilds4 жыл бұрын
That space is still the same. It's actually pretty roomy unless you get a cage installed. Usually the cage takes up some of the space behind the seats.

I gotta replace mine soon. This looks complicated haha. How is it holding up?
@OmarBuilds4 жыл бұрын
Holding up nicely apparently. I actually ended up selling it not too long ago.

They might have been a failure sales wise. I don't really know, but they have certainly recovered. The prices seem to be rising all the time. Average cars are appreciating and top cars are bringing very high prices. They are a sought after thing now. I have not done an MR2 top before so I'll have a look at this vid for sure. Thanks

Couldn't get the riviting thing down I need help :(
@OmarBuilds Жыл бұрын
oh no, whats up? You really have to push the rivet gun in there and make sure the rivet is in the washer on the other side.
@H-RutherfordHill2 жыл бұрын
How did you stretch the top over the corners? Can't get mine on - it already ripped in a few places.
@OmarBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Use a heat gun to soften it. I started with the corners on then sucked up the slack.

Hey, I have a MR2 Spyder that needs a new top, would you recommend the one you bought? I've priced others at about $800-900. You said it was thinner, did it feel cheap? Do you think it will hold up to repeated opening and closing? My top is original and it's shot so I'm shopping around and was just wondering what your overall opinion of the top was? Thanks.
@OmarBuilds4 жыл бұрын
I think it's definitely good for the price. The oem top is probably twice or three times as much.
@Vichedges4 жыл бұрын
@@OmarBuilds Thanks. I'm going to buy one. I don't expect it to last forever I was just worried it would be really poor quality. My original top is just shot and water is leaking in every time it rains.
