Thank you SO very much for sharing this video!!!! I didn't know WHAT the white strings were for on my daughter's replacement top for her 2006 vw beetle!!! All I have to do is string the tension cables through them, and THAT will probably take the pucker out of the bottom sides of the top!!! Still have it under the carport so no rain gets to it.

I have a 2002 Ford Mustang Convertible and I'm doing a one piece top install. I'm having an issue when I install the bow and screw in the underlayment. There's excess play where the bow slides in. My issue is when I install the bow and screw in the underlayment screws it comes out lose. Is there a technique I should do when screwing in the bow underlayment screws?

Hello Power, I think your calling the tack strip underlayment. What work pretty good is urethane sealer that is used to glue in windshields. Give it a try. Please keep liking and watching!

@@dewholdingsllc1050 Both the Robbins and EZ on would be sewn with the UV thread. I have made so many tops myself, mostly in the 1980 and 1990's. When drilling inside of a car, put a moving blanket or towel down. All those shavings can cause troubles down the road like clogging up drip or weep holes.

I use a steamer a lot on reviving boat cushion foam, but never thought to use it on tops. So I appreciate that tip...good work man!

Ever done a 1994-1998 Ford Mustang Convertible top. I'm kinda learie about trying it myself but nobody within 8 hours of me does it. I have plenty of experience in the automotive industry (about 20 years) but not much upholstery experience 😢. Hello Jackie, THE MOST important thing is to start by getting your rear bow hight correct. Everything else will fall into place. @@oldschoolautoupholstery I honestly think the ambient heat will take care of it though it will take longer,steam heats and loosens, the sun will do the same thing just take more time. That steam tool is a really nice thing to have, makes top look more professionally done. Good job.

@@johnnycee5179 If you have ever seen a wrinkle in a convertible top, that means both ambient air and the sun never removed the wrinkle. It really needs to get hot. I lived in Phoenix for 35 years and even a 120-degree day would not take out a wrinkle. You can try it though, wouldn't hurt.
