Is there another transmission that will work with the 2ar-fxe besides the scion 6spd. I have a 2000 mr2 spyder I'd like too put that motor in but that tranny is a little hard to come by.
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
The problem with the Spyder is not the transmission fitting the motor because there are many. for example in this build i'm using an E153. The issue is the spyder engine bay is tiny and other transmissions require cutting. The S54 *might* fit but i am not sure.

On the poly front mount: Will that be close enough to what your customers have, in terms of ts effect on the final alignment of the engine? I accept it's not going to affect the left/right lean of the engine much. Also, wouldn't you want to put the main bolt in from the side of the car? How will you get it out once your headers are installed? Torque control seem to be the best use for poly bushes, as they're usually not under as much load, right? that should reduce the transferred vibrations, I would think. Certainly I can recommend getting new mounts of any type for anyone with an MR2, My 1999's front mount rubber was detached from the steel, it felt horrible. I got a new bushing (Mackay A5111 Engine Mount Front) and pressed into the bracket. it feels SO much better, shifts much easier now.
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
The poly front and rear mount i'm using is the factory mounts but the rubber is replaced with poly so the alignment is the same without having to worry about nearly as much droop due to the unsupported right side mount. It just makes locating that 4th mount at exactly the right spot quite a bit easier.

Any suggestions on using the old e153, where would be the best place to add mount holes?
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
It would be easiest to just get a more modern bellhousing and swap it onto your E153 than to modify it. But with that said, generally you want to add bolts in the biggest gaps. In this case it would be at the bottom. picking up the two bottom bolts would really help provide more secure mounting.
@JohnDoe-mx1sq3 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate all your work. It really has me taking a second look at the NZ and AR platforms over anything from another make. Do you have a place to find information about the Denso box or NEC processors that come with these units? I'm having a hard time finding anything like a manual. You can't start doing the fun stuff until you know how the code works. Do you have any plans to try anything with a turbo? I'm sure you already know about the 8AR-FTS, so there are turbo pistons available. You could also try a 90mm bore with a 86mm crank, high compression pistons, long rods (probably custom) and revving the heck out of it. I have some ideas for higher revs, but they would take a lot of work.
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it does have a lot of potential and i think i'll go a long way to starting to show that in 2022. The way Toyota builds motors is very underrated for reasons i don't really understand but i'm doing what i can to fix that. There's no datasheet on the processor that i have been able to find. So there's no mapping of the peripherals on there. The NASA unintended acceleration report contains some incidental information but it isn't that much. There's a good chance that the die is not actually unique to Denso, the best way to go would be to buy a pile of NEC processors and decap them and decap the Denso units to do some compairaisons. You might even get away with decapping the Denso one only and potentially finding some markers on the die that indicate something. I do know that there's no NEC processor with the same number of pins so there's no easy match up like that.

I can't remember if you address this or not in another video, but is the 2gr axle mount going to work on this swap or are you going to have to design another mount to support the axle? If so what is the eta on that?
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
The 2010 manual camry axle carrier should be close enough especially with an 1/8" shim between it and the block. This will get us going for now but i will eventually make a lightweight axle carrier bracket as long as there is enough demand for it. In the interim I'll probably release a shim plate.

have you ever thought about implementing the 2ar-fse with the D4-S port/direct injection system?
@mrkazman3 жыл бұрын
I think direct injection requires much higher fuel pressur for the direct injection rail, which needs a secondary pump maybe? that would be a lot of added complexity, but if it's all mounted on the engine itself, it shouldn't be hard for our champion to tackle.
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
The 2AR-FSE is actually a longitudinal motor so the block is completely different. It might be possible to swap the FSE head on an FE block to fix that but then the next problem is i'm 90% sure that it isn't available at all in the USA. Plus the benefit of port injection is that it effectively gives the effect of higher octane fuel which allows for higher compression and higher engine efficiency. But since we aren't limited by fuel octane here because i haven't limited this challenge to any fuel and I live in Indianapolis which has easy access to just about any fuel there really would not be anything gained with the extra complexity.

Honestly this is a tough problem to handle. I absolutely want to solve this but there's also all the other messages i get that say they don't want to swap anything other than an E153 into the Spyder despite me providing a modern transmission option for those. The issue comes down to availability, there's really no manual transmission with great availability that is on the market today for use with these. When i picked the EB60 for the Spyder there were hundreds of them and they cost $500-800 a piece. now the junkyards all want more than Toyota wants for a new one. The EA60 starts even rarer and more expensive unless you're in the UK. So i totally want to solve this, i just don't know which transmission to use to do it with.
