Great video mate! Great time for me. I'm pretty sure I've had a piece of valve brake off in my cylinder 1 from the damage it left in the spark plug. Can see the side profile of a valve in the end of my spark plug.

Removing the springs is old school like when using a deep socket and hammer. What's keeping the valve in place when installing?
@gehringer37
@gehringer37 3 жыл бұрын
The rag under the valve is holding it in place. I mentioned it twice in the video.

Is there any way of changing the springs while the head is on?
@gehringer37
@gehringer37 3 жыл бұрын
Yes there is... You can feed a small rope down the spark plug hole and fill the cylinder. Then lightly compress the cylinder with the rope in it by hand so it holds the valves up. Some like to use compressed air but I find the rope works much better.

Hey mike just a quick question. How much work if any do you do on cleaning up the rest of the head like deburring it to help the oil drain etc or are they good enough as they are? I noticed I have a lot of casting marks in mine and I am not sure if I should work them over to help oil flow. By the way I subbed to your channel and will share it around with a few people with MR2s here in australia.
@gehringer37
@gehringer37 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Clint...thanks bro! Well...you really don't have to worry about casting marks messing with the oil flow...The oil pressure is pretty efficient on a 3SGTE. The only thing I do to the heads I rebuild is give the intake passages a good sanding and slight polish. That's why you seen my dremel tool in the video.

HI Mike. Do you have any recommendations on finding MR2 parts? I have a 1991 Turbo and am having problems finding things like weather stripping. Like you, I also live in SE Michigan and we all know its not a hot spot for non-American cars. Cheers.
@gehringer37
@gehringer37 4 жыл бұрын
Hey John... Well I'm sure you know about these places. Twosrus , prime performance , ATS racing , mr2 heaven , there are also used parts on the forums. Other than these eBay is the only other option. Hope this helps!

Hey Mike nice video. I have a need to replace a knock sensor for my 1993 MR2 Turbo 2nd gen. Do you have any recommendation on a good knock sensor? OEM Toyota or aftermarket ? Any part numbers would be appreciated. Thanks.
@gehringer37
@gehringer37 4 жыл бұрын
www.atsracing.net/Parts/Details/EL-KNOCKSENSOR Use this one... this knock sensor is a bit stronger than the oem Toyota sensor. And it's less expensive! 😎
