I never get tired of watching this! One player who needs to get a lot of credit for his play during this stretch is Timo Meier. He was the enforcer on the ice immediately after the Pavelski injury, and was a big part of maybe every goal the Sharks scored on that major penalty. He was in Fleury's grill the whole time and gave Sharks shooters advantages by taking away Fleury's eyes.

and everyone, including the VGK, knew how much of a leader little Joe was on that team, what a motivator and concerned, caring almost "coaching" player he was on that team. And to think he was injured and maybe even close to dying, death knocking at the door ... that woke the team up irreversably...so that Couture and Hertl were almost instinctually impelled towards a greater-than-themselves will to succeed and do little Joe right, and to do themselves right, to do humanity itself right. To redeem all wrongs and see that all things can be good again!!!! And let's not go astray here and think it's all Couture and Hertl. No way! Those 2 would be the very first to place garlands over the necks of the Lebancs of this world!

My friends living in Vegas were pissed off beyond description, telling me that there shouldn't have been a power play. But Hockey rules are pretty clear, you play too rough, you sit in the box. And if you draw blood, you do it for 5 minutes. Even if you do it on accident. Joe Pavelski was out for 9 days after that hit, missing the first couple of games of the next series. Let's be honest here, if Vegas hadnt have let in 4 GOALS IN 4 MINUTES, no one would even be talking about the call. Vegas being up 3-1 in the series and 3-0 in this game and losing is a choke job.

For me, the Sharks eliminating those rotten scumbags VGK was a bigger pleasure than the disappointment of another Maple leafs elimination by Boston. No Canadians teams left but this year is for the Sharks Go Sharks!!

Lots of Canadians left just no Canadian based team .Its hard for Canadian based teams to win when there is 24 based American teams and only 7 based Canadian teams.Canadian based teams are out numbered 11-4 in the west and 13-3 in the east, One eastern division has no Canadian based teams at all

Leo Lopez...Ever hear of the Seven Deadly Sins? ENVY is the one that most directly affects your own piece of mind. I realize it has to be rough being a Leafs fan, and that you're bitter over the success of an expansion team's inaugural record shattering season, but let me tell you something about the "rotten scumbags VGK" as you refer to them. First, every one of those players acquired in the expansion draft, either by being left unprotected or via trade, were not considered a top asset or valuable enough by their former clubs. So their common bond in the beginning was having something to prove; to show their worthiness. Motivational factor # 1. Motivational factor # 2 - Two days prior to the season opener in Phoenix, and ten days prior to the inaugural season home opener, the tragic event that came to be known as "ONE OCTOBER" devastated this city. These players, who didn't ask to come here, suddenly found themselves representatives of a community that was rocked to it's core by a selfish act of violence that made no sense. In between practicing for the first few times together, they were out in the community visiting survivors in the hospitals, donating blood, and making a statement that this organization is first class off the ice, before they were ever able to show if they were any good on the ice. The original pregame ceremony, with all the glitz of a Las Vegas world class show, was written, rehearsed, and ready to go....but was scrapped in favor of a somber, yet inspirational tribute honoring the victims who lost their lives and the courage/dedication of the emergency services/first responders. Ask any Golden Knights player how they were able to rise to the level it takes to play in an NHL game following such an emotional ceremony, and they'll tell you the inspiration they felt was unlike anything they'd ever experienced; they knew they HAD to win that game. They came out on fire, scoring 4 goals before the halfway point of period 1. They wound up winning the inaugural home game 5-2, and they never looked back...they bonded together in a way that allowed chemistry to develop, and they rode that inspirational, emotional wave all season long and into the post season...and all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. I was at the concert the night of the shooting. So sorry if I take it a little more personally when someone refers to my team in the way you did. Have a great day.

@@vegasmobydick I stopped reading as soon as you mentioned "envy". It's the go-to "argument" for anyone who can't cope emotionally with the fact that other people are disliking something that you like. Your welfare team is out, and it's sweet. Deal with it.
@georger7435 жыл бұрын
Truly sorry about October 1 but I fail to see how this matters this season and this series in particular. VGK shit the bed this series. Should have finished the Sharks in games 5 or 6. Maybe this "character" you cite in your missive above will lead them to a Cup next year? And maybe not. Keep watching though. Hockey is a great sport. Especially nice to see newbie fans get excited about the sport.

Such a shame, was hoping we'd get to see Marleau play his old team for the cup too. Its been the strangest playoff hockey season ever. Literally every team I thought was going to advance didn't advance, and I love the Sharks, but with all their injuries I didn't think they could move past Vegas.
@argerm575 жыл бұрын
I watched this in San Jose, and nothing up until that point in the game gave any indication that the Sharks were going to erupt for four goals. That was the confluence of a motivated, pissed-off team executing to perfection. I think the most interesting goal was Labanc's goal, where he saw that William Karlsson essentially turned his back on him and Labanc, seeing this, just skated toward the net and let a great wrist shot go to beat a totally-screened Fleury to the far post. I'm a Rangers fan from way back, but San Jose is the home-town team. This may be their year, but they haven't won anything yet. Still a long way to go. Yes, they were the recipients of some luck, but it's a rare thing in sports when a team that wins a championship doesn't have some luck along the way. I hope their success continues. It will be a very long time before we see anything like that again.

I saw one in person, went against the home team..Game 3, 1998, St Louis at LA, The Forum...one of the Kings was set to go off for a minor penalty, and St Louis’s Geoff Courtnall totally ran the Kings’ GT Jamie Storr. Defenseman Sean O Donnell took exception and it looked like a fight, where both guys would get 5 for fighting and life would go on. Nope - the refs called Courtnall for charging (not goalie interference) and O’Donnell got 5 for fighting and a game misconduct. So St Louis got a 5 minute major, and in 4 minutes (almost the exact time that San Jose used), turned an 0-3 deficit into a 4-3 lead (and win). Blues swept the series in the next game. That was the Kings’ last playoff series at The Forum, and continued a playoff futility stretch of not having won a postseason game since winning Game 1 at Montreal in the 1993 Stanley Cup Final. This futility streak lasted until Round 1, Game 3, 2001, when LA beat Detroit. Footnote: LA and St Louis met in 2012 for the first time in the postseason since that 1998 Game 3...and swept the Blues 4-0. The next season they met again, and after St Louis won the first two at home, LA won 4 straight to take that first round series.

Rewatching this, the penalty makes complete sense. Pavelski was falling, and the extra push caused pavelski into a situation where he couldn't protect himself. It's comparable to why they call flagrant fouls on basketball players when they undercut or push another player while dunking. It's an extremely dangerous thing to do, as you see here. He slams his head on the ice.

What Knights’ fans need to understand is that the Sharks had nothing to do with the major penalty given in favor. In fact, after reviewing the play over and over I consider the call to be absolutely legitimate. It was a circumstantial bit of luck, yes, but it wasn’t the Sharks fault. Nor was the Knights’ fault for choking the game. Scoring 4 goals during the power-play lapse wasn’t even attributable to the man-advantage in itself. The reason for the dramatic change of events in the game was because the Sharks were mad. Mad like an elephant. They wanted to make the Knights pay with tears what one of their brothers paid with blood. Their seek for retaliation thus pushed them to the limit. When Couture scores the first goal he gestures [That’s one you fuckers! And brace yourselves cuz it’s just the beginning].
