Hey Hunter, just wanted you to know I watched your video review several times before actually buying the AT Pro and wanted you to know it was very helpful in all aspects of how the machine works. I've had it for a little over a month now and am getting pretty good with it. Thanks once again for the honest review of this machine. It works and handles just like you demonstrate.

hey just bought a AT PROS last month at Kellyco, while my wife and I were camping near Coco Beach. We rode over to Kellyco one day and I talked to Stevie Ray. He helped me determine the AT PROS would be best for me, as we may be anywhere. He showed me how to assemble, set it up and how to operate it. I'm in the Hickory/Morganton area and looking for a experienced hunter to go detecting with to gain some knowledge. Thanks for the videos that helps!

Wife bought me a AT Pro for Christmas last year. New to the hobby and tried it a couple of times, but couldn't get the hang of it. Watching the Garrett videos and reading the manual was little help. Your video is so clear and concise on how the machine operates and the tones to listen for. Thanks for the explanation. Think I'll go try it out tomorrow on the beach in Northwest Florida.

Also nickels and quarters are part of what lead you to gold and silver finds because they along with half dollars and dollar coins all tend to gather in the same low spots and low spots and erosion are where you should look. But that is another story. Get a sniper coil and another coil such as the stock small coil or a concentric one. Be sure to do a factory reset every time you switch out your coil. Read your manual to understand how to do it correctly. Focus on what you are doing out there, take notes if need be, etc, etc. The more you put into it the more you will get out of it! I would recommend the AT Pro as a great machine, though there are many other machines available that can do more. If you have a bad back and only used your machine twice in two years get out of metal detecting as you are not cut out for it. Don't blame it on Garrett. Metal detecting can be very hard work and digging a bunch of 8 inch and deeper holes is not for most of us. Sometimes I give it a rest for a few days. I get tired of not finding anything much somedays and the other day I got so many targets I got tired of digging them all! Use a sniper coil for good seperation of targets when in trashy areas or areas close to fences and such. They work. Don't believe everything you see on KZbin as some folks ate spouting "Alternate Facts" because thdy don't know their machines well or are too dumb to learn the skills needed. Some don't even understand how to tune their machines or use generalizations which are a disservice to Newbies. Newbies read and watch all you can about the AT Pro and slowly and surely (Stop calling me Shirley!) you will get more knowledge and make better settings manually to enable you to get more out of your machine. Clean up your mess and help the rest of us keep a good image, say "Yes Sir and No Sir and Mam" and act responsibly and try to be pleasant. All this and dedication will reap benefits for a lifetime!

Today is Feb. 7th, in Maryland,chilly and the ground surface is frozen the first two inches but we lost our virginity today and after useing the garrett for the first time joined your ranks.. we found a pull-tab and a finish nail…what a blast we had laughing. I had a coin detector around 1975. Put it away due to to many questions from the people going by. Now being retired took out my old machine to find it wasn't working. It took 14 size AA batteries to operate the machine. Couldn't find the company on the computer. So I did my search on the web sites and after viewing many videos, read lots of reviews I came to the conclusion I would order the GARRETT AT PRO. After two days i received the machine . Easy installation of the parts, easy individual adjustments for the head set.The computer videos on different web sites are great for the first operating set up. The book takes a lot longer to understand . I will take the book along with me . But......... after going into my back yard i bent my GARRETT EDGE DIGGER in about five minutes going around tree roots. I set the machine ground balance automatic easily, the machine in standard mode and zero with 33 on the metal discrimination. I was digging to china getting readings of 85 to 99. ( I live in New Jesery) I have the GARRETT pointer on order . I stopped digging even when i was getting a signal of 99 due to tree roots three inches across. I have a lot to learn. when I put the machine down to dig the machine picks up the GARRETT digger even when it,s about two feet from the machine. Had to take my keys out of my pants pocket. The storage bag is on the cheap side. I would recommend the bottom plate for the coil be mounted by GARRETT permanently for each coil My yard starting to look like the movie caddy with the gopher holes all covered up. Found one penny 1975, piece of aluminum, a stone which is driving the machine crazy , and one nail. This was after a few hours. I think the machine is worth the monies spent. Must learn and have a tremendous amount of patience........ a tremendous amount of patience. Oh, did I mention you must have patience? Thanks Garrett,you do good work! This machine is going to be my last machine with a little care. Greg M.

A well presented comprehensive video. Many thanks. I purchased the American model for Australia instead of the International model. I hope I've made the right choice. Up till now I've been using the AT Gold which is also an outstanding machine but I felt overwhelmed with the size of our parks and beaches here with the small coil. Obviously I can't use the coin mode over here but would you be able to offer any help on the program that would most suit my hunting. I'm looking for our pre decimal coins which all come in the 80s I also hunt for relics etc. thank you again for a really well done video. I subbed you on the strength of this video.

nice video and nice visuals. i currently have whites and minelab MD's and wanting to get an AT Pro now it's just a hard trigger to pull. Curious though on the video at time 10:32 the wheat penny's Coin Depth is reading from 4"-8" hwy is that? that's a pretty drastic difference when its only about 1-2" depth. Any ideas, whats your theory on that? The Mercury Dime at 11:01 has a depth of 8". The Buffalo nick is 6-8" and I'm going to venture to guess the other coins will give the estimated depth of 6-8" as well. im definitely sold on Garrett just trying to justify the readings.

So you are getting reasonable depth on silver , to 10 inches? My F44 won't pick up silver beyond 6", and I have not found any yet. I have several silver coins buried at different depths in the backyard, won't pick up beyond 6". Places I recently hunted you don't find silver at that depth -8-12" are the norm. I'm now interest again in the AT-pro.

Sorry if you already explained this but I'm just learning , and trying to fig the benefits of different modes . Do you use mostly pro custom ? Thanks a lot , grate videos !
@CarolinaCoinHunter9 жыл бұрын
David Gagne Pro coin has some preset discrimination to ignore trash items like pull tabs, iron and foil. I mostly use Pro Zero with a little iron discrimination. Just enough to knock out small nails. A lot of jewelry and other good targets can come in in the pull tab and foil range. When you use a lot of discrimination you can miss some targets if they are extremely close to another item that is being rejected. The machine will have to recover from going silent on the rejected item before it can sound off on the next. Coin mode is great if you are just wanting to concentrate on coins at a park, but you may miss some targets that are also desirable. If you want gold rings, you end up digging a lot of junk, but with a bit of time on the machine you can also get a feel for what to pass on.Thanks for watching!

Great video 👍 Really appreciate the time and detail put into it. I started out with used bounty hunter and payed it off within 3 days of serious detecting. (Payed 75 for the detector that resulted in a ton of fun and a silver/diamond earring) I know that people say there are better detectors than the Garret AT Pro but it drove me nuts that I have missed so many water detecting opportunities. Do you have any recommendations to a all terrain/waterproof detector around the same price? Ive looked and looked but maybe I have missed one. Could go the pre owned route but afraid of getting a neglected detector but I could always just send it off to get serviced.

@CarolinaCoinHunter8 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome! If I'm getting a ton of beaver tails that are ringing up pretty close to each other, I'll sometimes use the eliminate button when swinging over one to knock out that particular target ID. You may still get a bit of a signal if the ID bounces around, but it should break it up quite a bit. Thanks for watching,and good luck with your detecting :)

Great job with the review of the Garrett AT pro however I purchased this detector because it was All Terrain! I've found that this is not the case, when I go anywhere near water the detector goes nuts! I even get targets when I wave it in the air!!!! I've contacted Garrett and the uk suppliers regton and they want ME to pay for shipping when this thing is still under warranty! After paying £600 for it I don't want to spend any more. That said the detector works great in fields and have found lots of cool stuff, but be prepared to find lots and lots of coke (coal) as this machine loves it, it give off a good target signal so you have to dig it! So once again thank you for your review but I wish I had carried on saving and bought a minelabs etrac much much much better machine 👍

I've had my AT PRO for 2 years now and due to back surgery ive only used it 2 times and it worked great but I just took it out to get it ready for a week at waikiki beach and it's all screwed up ! I popped in the batteries and turned in on and it started screaming and all the indicators started jumping so I tried different batteries and now change so I was thinking maybe it was the coil so I put on the sniper coil and still no change ? so I'm gonna have to give garrett a call and see if they can help . I'm hoping it's a easy fix because 2 times of use and it's broke isn't a good ratio .

That stinks. Did you try an do a reset. Hold the power button for ten seconds or so until you get a fast double beep, and see if that does anything. If your unit is malfunctioning, Garrett customer service is very good. Hope you get it worked out!

+Carolina Coin Hunter yep I tried the master reset and it didn't work hell I can't even get it to turn off ! so I sent it to garrett last week and I haven't heard back from them yet .

That kind of stuff does happen sometimes. I'd give them a call if you don't hear from them soon. Hopefully you'll get it back and be able to have some fun with it. It would have been nice on that beach trip. Sounds like my luck. lol

+FordFracture I did call them and they said I was out of warranty and I will be charged accordingly ? it's kinda sad that you pay top dollar and use it a handful of time and it has to go bad for repairs ! and I'm sure it's gonna cost at least 200 or more to fix . and the thing that make me mad is that I stored it it the garrett padded bag with the batteries out and it still failed me !

FordFracture That does suck.

Nice test we can see that AT PRO is good on mineralised soil for his price. I am really interesting in the same test but with the mode PRo, ZERO, ZERO discri and full sensibility. I think that with this you can have all at 9 inches and a better sound on the 10 inches quarter. This is normal that in mineralised soil ID's go down so I think we must let the discrimination at 22 and not at 35 or 40; with this high number we can miss low conductives targets.

Very cool tests. I am hoping to get an AT Pro soon. I have been using the ACE 350 for 2 years. i like the fact that this has numbers which helps with discrimination. This red Clay/Iron soil is tough here in central NC! Thanks a lot. Subscribed and when I do buy one, I'll be back!! Do you find it hard to get permission here? sigh!

hope you are right, I just bought one. I live in Nova Scotia where the ground is very mineral active

I recently bought the Ace Apex. I don’t like it and am returning it. The depth readings were way off, and way to much chirping no matter what settings I used. Is the AT pro better?

I'll answer myself, yes it is!

Good review. I have been thinking about one for just water hunts. Interested in why you choose the AT Pro over the AT Gold especially with gold in your area? I'm in the upstate of SC and have struggled with just this choice. I'm choosing the Pro because of the notch discriminator. I can manage my time better looking for what I want on any given day. One of the best videos i'v seen on the AT Pro. HH and God Bless.
@CarolinaCoinHunter10 жыл бұрын
I chose the At pro because it can ground balance all the way to salt water, and it's a bit cheaper than the gold. I've mainly used it for hunting swimming holes, and iron heavy sites. If I need to go prospecting, I could give it a try with the pro or just use my V3i. The notching ability of the pro is also a very handy feature! Thanks for watching and good luck with your detecting :)

Thanks for the outstanding review; Looking for a new md, would you prefer the AT PRO or the re-released T2 Classic / green? (water resistance doesn’t matter to me)
@CarolinaCoinHunter8 жыл бұрын
+Gerwin Meijer If you don't need a water proof machine then I think the T2 would be good. I'd put the savings towards a nice pinpointer and headphones, and then you'll be set. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your detecting!

what is the cost for the Garrett AT pro? I am looking for a detector that will pick up on all metals Gold silver and scrap. thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
@CarolinaCoinHunter9 жыл бұрын
Steve Jones Thank you for watching Steve! The AT Pro costs around $600.00. This isn't cheap, but it is a great value at it's price point considering it is also waterproof to ten feet. Great for detecting those old swimming holes :) Good luck with your detecting!

I am thinking about buying an AT Gold. What is your opinion on this detector over the AT Pro? Great video by the way.
@dalehidy43558 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if when you notch out pull tab will you lower your chances to find gold rings. Over the years i have noticed that rings,pull tabs and nickel readings have often turned up a gold ring. How fine tuned is this unit to actually discriminating out pull tabs? Your answer would help me decide weather to buy the gold or the pro. I can't make up my mind
@CarolinaCoinHunter8 жыл бұрын
It can reduce your chances to some degree. Only certain rings would fit into that area. The notch is pretty small, so I think your chances overall would still be very good.

I'm researching into metal detectors and I see a lot of these machines are for finding coins, jewelry, and small antiques at shallow depths. What kind of machine would I want if I was to be looking for things bigger like military buttons, helmets, mortar rounds, or guns at depths 2-4 feet + ?
@CarolinaCoinHunter9 жыл бұрын
Jared Getz The larger the object the deeper these machines will pick it up. A smashed beer can can easily be picked up up over a foot deep. A button is similar to a coin in size, so you could pick those up at normal coin depths. Many people use these types of detectors to find Civil War relics here in the US. A helmet could be picked up at a couple of feet deep at least. Some detectors like the Fisher F75 has a cache locating mode designed to find larger deep objects, but most detectors will find large stuff pretty deep anyway. Hope this helps!
