2 people influenced me to buy my R E classic 350. You are one of them. I wasn't remotely surprised when you bought one. Total game changer! Passed my test in April. My Royal Enfield is my first big boy bike. At 57, probably my last too! I absolutely love it! Done about 1200 miles. Still running it in. It just gets better and better! Mine is the Signals. Desert Sand. Removed the pillion seat and rear pegs. Added octagonal drop bars, side pannier bars and soft bags. Also a small H D rack on the rear bumper. On that, I fitted a 5 ltr jerry can with a lockable door cut into it. I store a small tool kit, bungees, oil, bike chain and disc lock. My bike looks the dogs bollocks! Also, had some extra stickers added. Everywhere I go, people ask questions. Oh! I forgot, I had replica tax disc made with my date of birth and bike details on it. It looks amazing and fits the classic style. I bloody love my bike. So glad you love yours too! Good luck in Spain mate. You'll be missed here, I have no doubt. Cheers! Jez. 👍😊

I've just picked up my new 350 classic in gunmetal grey today, absolutely love it ! I traded my Interceptor in for it after three years and ten thousand miles of owning it , and have to say the classic is better bike , the riding position, seat , footrest positioning handlebars are way more comfortable! The overall finish and switchgear is better quality as well ! 👌

As I commented on D'arcy's channel,uk legislation appears designed to force us motorcyclists off the road.When a lot of cars are only occupied by the driver,its no surprise that our roads are so clogged.If all of the fit and healthy drivers of such cars were put on motorcycles there could be far less congestion.................................

I had for free months a HNTR 350. This bike has a wonderful smooth engine!!! But I'm living in the Austrian Voralpenland - if you're driving up a mountain, you are nearly unable to overtake a slow truck!?!? I think the RE 350 engine is really dangerous for driving in the mountains! After selling the HNTR 350 I started dreaming of a mixture of my KTM Duke 350 and the RE HNTR 350! The Triumph Speed 400 nailed it! 💪

The RE Classic 350 has got its own character and charm. India is a very cost sensitive country and there are bikes available which outperforms the classic easily and yet non of them are able to replace the presence of the classic, its so strong here in India that even Royal Enfield are themselves scared to make any design changes to the classic. The classic reborn was built from the scratch getting the new frame and engine and yet they kept it exactly the same as the previous versions because people may not feel that connection anymore. This bike sells purely on emotions here 🙂

I share your view 100% about seats, anodised gold forks, plastic tails and side mounted mudguard. Other pet hates that deterred me from buying certain bikes in the past are weird headlight designs (Triumph Street Triple) and how high rear ends are above the wheel. Many have tiny pointed pillion seats hardly big enough to seat a baby's bum let alone an adults. I'll stick with the comfort, looks and practicability of my Honda CB1100 RS until bike fashion return to normal.

Where I live 300-400 cc bike are not just a back-road bike. It will be a family only bike in the household for most. The problem of the RE350 is the lack of top speed, 110 kph is just not enough. It need just a bit more to be able to useable in highway traffic here. The Triumph 400 will be a serious contender over here.

I would enjoy seeing the power and torque curves, for any set of compared bikes we’re talking about, superimposed. I enjoy your reviews, and your perspective, and I genuinely love the Classic 350. And I am far from a young, thoughtless power-punk. But here in Colorado, USA, just going for breakfast takes me to 8,000ft (about 2,500M), and even paved passes can be 10,000ft (3,000M, plus.) That’s before getting on mountain two-track and trails. I understand long- versus short-stroke engines, but would very much like to ride the Triumph for a real-world feel. If its torque curve is reasonably flat, meaning there’s some in the 3- to 4-thousand basement, then I wouldn’t turn down a SEA-LEVEL 40 HP on a 400 cc single. Thanks for reading. John

I’ve had a 350 Classic for 4 months now …couldn’t be happier …yes it lacks a bit of umph but the most comfortable riding position I’ve ever had I think and a very easy machine to get use to and ride .. I changed my air filter and cap ( dna from Hitchcocks ) yesterday and it had made a big difference …not only now does it sound better , not that it was bad before you understand but sounds throatier and does have a little more torque I’d say …so we’ll worth the £90 and very simple to install ….like 5 minutes …love the Channel and your son is a credit to you 👍

If Triumph can get it here for a similar price to the RE bikes I don't see RE selling many more Hunters/Scrams/etc. The Triumph is going to be WAY more, as the Americans would say, highway capable.(and fun)

Ive got a 400cc bike made from bajaj, the same guys that will build the triumph. Let me tell you, for a naked bike i wish it had the peak power a little bit lower in the rev range. The dominar in 6th at 120kmph runs at 6500rpm, the peak power hits@ 8800rpm. Its great when you are riding in the highway at 70-80mph(120-130km/h) and twist the throttle and you get instant power up to 160kmph but the wind at those speeds are annoying. In the backroads it lacks the torque needed to chill at 3500-4000rpm, specially when riding with a pillon. If i had the option to choose, id rather take the harley, it has more useful power, 38nm@4000rpm sounds great to me. I hope i explained myself, not my first language 😆

The Dominar engine is based on the Duke 390 (Bajaj own a fair chunk of KTM). Which is why it is a wee tad on the revvy side. Interestingly Bajaj bikes here in the Philippines, Pulsar and Dominar, are badged as Kawasaki and sold through their dealerships. Wonder if that will happen with the new Triumphs. Otherwise, if you don't live in Manila or Cebu, you won't have access to the dealer.

After riding for over a decade, I have come to realize, there is no perfect bike. You fall in love with it and love gradually grows as you spend more time in solitude riding. RE for sure is my choice, but am also excited about Triumph and Harley at that price points. Harley has always been an inspirational brand to possess in India, so I think Harley will also attract a lot of attention, plus their groups and accessories will come to foray.

Totally agree on your thoughts on bike aesthetics - I think Royal Enfield has the most style in spades. I've seen some Triumphs I really like too, but for the life of me I cannot fathom how an American brand like Indian doesn't make a retro bike whatsoever. People are into them for their history, not to buy their modern monstrosities. I want that flat bench style seat and upright riding profile. Over here in the USA, there really aren't any bikes doing the retro vibe well except Enfields and they are harder to find. I'm lucky to have a Signals 350 - I get asked about the bike ALL the time! This happens from random strangers who are non-riders to moto enthusiasts. It just proves your point - great style is so much more compelling that overdone performance.

I do all the maintenance myself, including the tappets. Thats something I really love about this bike. Yes, I would love to have more horsepower. But for what it is, it’s an incredibly fun, enjoyable, and smooth ride. I could be mistaken, but I have heard that a classic 650 is going to debut in 2024. I would buy one in a heartbeat. As a young guy looking for his first classic style or classic scrambler style motorcycle. I completley agree with you. Iv been looking into the 400x scram, but the gold forks on the front really kill the looks for me and the little plastic buts too. Id love to have a RE 350 classic scrambler to have the beautiful old looks and the ability to go off road on trails a little bit. (And deal with our horrific roads here in canada). I hope companies come to their senses about the looks of bikes. The 400x is better for what im looking for but the looks I just cant warm up to.

I am more or less the same age as you Old Man and I really appreciate the aesthetics of bikes like the 350 Royal Enfield. Although I am waiting for the 650 Classic to come here, probably next year now I would have thought. For me personally, the Harley looks like cheap Chinese crap, which is probably what it is. Harley seem to have their heads wedged way too far up their own arses to care what their now and future customers want. I told my youngest son about the Harley a few weeks ago when it first surfaced. He is 19 and hates it as much as I do. They seem to have totally lost the plot with design and ergonomics. I reckon the Triumph will sell in bucket loads, as does my lad. You can't argue with the youth of the day after all..........

I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment regarding design and aesthetics. Moderm bikes offer an array of redundant electronics within a sea of plastic and tacky add ons. That being said, I do think it is a real shame RE couldnt or won't squeeze more power out of the 350 engine. It is not great being tailgated by cars and not having the power to get out of tricky situations. I think that will tempt a lot of riders towards the triumph. Besides look, it is the better bike.

Thanks for the great video. As an ageing biker who has had all the big bikes, I demo'd a Hunter at the weekend. Really liked it but just wanted a little bit more on fast roads. I have put a deposit on the Triumph, but if the demo or price doesn't impress, I will switch to the Hunter. The Triumph has a short stroke motor but the torque curve is pretty flat, it makes 32nm at 3k revs, quite a bit more than the Hunter and not far off the Harley and it is 20kg lighter. So knowing the Hunter is OK at low rev, I know the Triumph should be impressive too.

Out of the 3 bikes I'm only interested in the Triumph Scrambler. I think Harley missed out on making a true retro bike like you 350. They have great designs for the late 30's and all of the 40's and give it hidden or none hidden suspension. Which I think is a great lost. It could of been easily converted into a Bobber look as well. So to me your making your 350 look better to me. Can't argue with your opinion on the added plastic bits. Horrible look and the first place to get bashed and covered in everything thrown up by the rear wheel. I'll never understand mud guards that don't actually guard against mud. The design extras don't tick any boxes for me either. I'm OK with the gold forks because I see a lot of that here in the US. I think the Triumphs will price according to their good market in the US, and Harley will always be the most expensive. I'm most enamored with the RE Classic in the livery you have in front of you, but you can't go wrong with a bit more power. Aftermarket intake and exhaust can solve that... But at what cost? That was a fun episode. Thanks for what you do and keep it up...

Style is very subjective and for me personally the RE classic 350 does nothing. All that heavy metal chrome lavished on a very underpowered engine?. I'd argue there's nothing simple & straight forward about the classic 350. It's as blingy as a pimps jewelry collection. Having said that, so are the gold forks on the triumphs. Otherwise I think the triumph scrambler 400X looks great. There's more than just aesthetics to a bike. I want a bike that's engaging and fun to ride and is capable of going anywhere, from motorways to green lanes. That used to be adventure bikes until they just got too bloody big and plastic. In my mind the 400X is almost exactly the bike I'm looking for so I've already reserved one. Eventually I'm certain I'll get a tail tidy, anodise the forks black and sorce some proper spoked wheels. After all, it's a scrambler and as such, customizing is part of the experience.

The Triumph is in a different class. Twice the power, a more modern bike. If the Scrambler is no more than £5500 I'm having one.
@letni9506
@letni9506 Жыл бұрын
@@splodge57 I know the Triumph is better but I fear the scrambler version will be £6k and I can't justify the extra £2,200 when it's a bike I'm probably only going to ride at speed limits anyway. I need a new car and only have a 20k budget for both. I've seen 6k estimated for the scrambler and £5,500 for the speed 400 and I don't think they are far off.

About motorcycles and design. Bikes from the 60s and 70s (and older) are build to function. Every part is there for a functional reason but the parts are designed to be pleasing to the eye. Nothing is really there just for looks. Nowadays design goes before function. The only real exceptions are Royal Enfields especially the 350 Classic.

Now that I'm seeing Triumph and Harley with Classic 350, Classic really looks gorgeous with that beautiful tank and whole bike looks perfect. Can't really say that about Triumph and Harley new bikes but I believe they are aimed at different people.

To my eyes the Harley is not very pretty. The Triumph has classy, classic looks and the RE looks old fashioned, which was probably the design brief. I also agree with you about the bejazzling of the Triumph. That was unnecessary and provided little in the way of aesthetics. So which would I choose? In order of preference based on looks it would be Triumph first and then RE.

The Zontes 350 GK is something I'd consider around 40bhp, however doesnt have Scrambler tyres. Id def have the classic 350 but I have a Himalien so am biased😅 P.s agree re the modern design plus the obsession with beaks. If you own a modern adv in Brum you are a beaky blinder.

Triumph is a game changer at the right price. The power level is bang on for a midrange bike, just enough to make things interesting.
@Biggus63

With a red line of something like 10,000 you'll have to rev the tits off it to get that power. It won't be a relaxing bike to ride, and the reports coming out of India from the first tests of production bikes suggest it isn't a very pleasant engine at higher revs. Given that I expect it to cost pretty much the same as an Interceptor it may not be the huge success than some are predicting. We shall have to see.

Couldn't agree more with you on your comments about motorcycle design , designers certainly seem to have lost the plot on the aesthetics front, there are some beautiful looking bikes out there that are visually wrecked by the manufacturers fitting a carbuncle to the back end of the bike with lights and a number plate attached, when you ask the manufactures why they insist on fitting these monstrosities to their bikes, they shrug and tell you its 'EU Safety Legislation' !! the only upside is it inspires the inner rebel in some of us to 'flick' the bureaucrats in Brussels/London the proverbial bird and fit a tail tidy and small number plate 😅

The Classic 350's and Classic 500's are built so strong and so reliable that people take these bikes on off-road to high altitudes like Himalayas, Spitti vally, leh Ladakh and tallest mountains in india where you barely see any roads for 100's of miles and it is the most common bike on those mountain ranges. You should check it out on KZbin. ☺️

So keeping my priorities in mind booked speed 400. I just hope it doesnt dissapoint me 🤞🙊. And yes my 98 standard cries on uphill even without a pillion and whereas my rx100 doesn't.

No doubt traditional HD riders and fans will slate the little HD but HD have to go this way to bring younger riders to the brand. It worx cost wise in buying a much cheaper small bike to learn on and not every body wants a near 2ltr motorcycle and the running costs that go with it.

I think the triumph is spot on with its looks (back end maybe the exception), it is a baby triumph without doubt and looks as good as classic smaller triumphs did to their larger counterparts in the past. The power range puts me off though, and I think Id be screaming about a bit from junction to junction. But it suits a more modern rider so they'll be popular and sell well. For an outsourced machine it sticks close to the Triumph aesthetic, more so than the Harley. A small Keyway V twin looks more Harley than the X440. I hate it, but if that's an entry Harley, so be it. For me, my heart rules my head and the RE classic would be my choice. Standing in front of that machine in future years will still feel the same as you did the first day you bought it. It is most definitely what it is and always will be. Its not a miniature RE, its proper RE! Lets fast forward and see which one will still be on the road in 30 years? For the Indian market, lets see which one stands up to the rigours of the roads over there? The Harley asks does the company really care unless they are selling you a 1000cc plus V twin, they're past efforts would suggest no real understanding of any other market sector.

I also do not want to tie up too much money in the second bike. The thought of a 450 RE sounds tempting also, considering second hand to get me by 😮
