Click clock wood was pure magic. Do you guys remember that early in the game you already got access to the puzzle, but it wasn't activated yet? But you could hear the music? It was so mysterious to me. And finally entering that world... only to find another hub in the hub... mindblowing

The flying in Banjo Kazooie was a complete game changer for gaming as a whole. Super Mario 64 had the Wing Cap, which was also monumental, but, the flying in Banjo Kazooie was way more controlled and fun, especially when you get the Beak Bomb. Tooie expands on it with First Person View and the ability to shoot eggs while flying

@@ignaciosb8779 The name you were looking for is Eyrie. They were originally going to have Gobi go to a cut level called Mt. Fire Eyes (the reason why there's a lava pit near the Mad Monster Mansion entrance), but I guess time constraints had them shift a lot of levels to _Tooie_ including having Gobi make his way to Hailfire Peaks after yet another obstacle.

i like to jump in to lure him to the shore and kill snackers with eggs, serves him right oddly, using beak buster/rat-a-tat rap him triggers the quote for him hurting you, despite doing no damage, but does get him to leave you alone for a bit edit: he still hits you if you claw swipe or roll, but beak barge works the same. more useful to know, if you wonderwing and then jump into him, its an instant kill for him.

Games where you could fly freely were amazing to me as a kid, so click clock tower was easily my favorite. I would transform into a bee and just fly around as much as I could. I can tell you love this game as much as I do. So I'm fascinated how our ranking lists can vary so wildly. Forgive, me for posting my two cents but I can't help myself. For various reasons I wont go into here, I honestly think this game is the best 3D platform ever made, and tragically ever will be made. I might make this my own video, but for now I'll post it here as a response to your thoughts. (Fair Warning: some of my thoughts may come off as negative since most of the positive aspects of each level are already in the video. Please keep this in mind while reading.) #9 Bubblegloop Swamp. I agree that Bubblegloop is a pitstop and boy does it feel like one, completely shattering the games momentum, (and thank god Freezeezy Peak comes right after to save it.) The most horizontal of the levels, Bubblegloop requires you to trail down linear paths from a central point, resulting in tons of backtracking (the gold gator jiggie is even based around it.) Thankfully its saved by being small. The challenges are time consuming and repetitive if failed. Bubblegloop feels almost like a harbinger for the large walks and obnoxious challenges that would go onto undermine Tooie. I agree that its designed to be a benchmark test for the first act of the game, but unfortunately its about a fun as taking one. This is the only level in the game I wish I could skip while replaying. #8 Clanker's Cavern This level has a special place in my heart, and it hurts putting it this low. However, I can't deny that it feels incomplete, like a beta level that made it into the final cut. Most of it is a decorated cube, that I wish had the same level of polish as its entrance room. However, what saves the level is Clanker. His genius reveal, and as you pointed out, the great game flow of his various entrances. I agree its one of the best underwater levels mostly due to Banjos tight underwater mechanics. Although not tedious, its jiggies are a bit uninspired, making this level and Gubblegloop the low-point of the game. #7 Mumbo's Mountain The games advanced tutorial level, after Spiral Mountain. Many before me have already discussed the incredible instructive skill of its linear design. Its one of the best tutorial levels ever, but alas, its still not a real level. So it goes at here my default, Spiral Mountain, would go here too if included. #6 Feezeezy Peak You already discussed what I love about this charming winter wonderland. Everything about this level is designed around constant motion. From the snowmen that hurt you for standing or flying still, to the freezing water and winding paths, to the two literal races. Which ironically, captures both the wonder and the stress of the holiday season. So I'm torn. It maybe a matter of taste. For my brother, the snowball enemies were a deal breaker, annoying, mean spirited, and hard to kill, I get where he was coming from, in a level that feels way to claustrophobic for its own good. The large snowman set piece should have been made smaller to give more flying room and scale it to the rest of the level. Even still, its sheer magical charm over powers all my gripes, making it one of the best christmas levels ever. #5 Click Clock Woods You nailed it. I have nothing much to add. Its an ambitious flaunting display of interconnectivity that makes the series incredible and perfect end to the game. I hope you do the video about it. #4 Treasure Trove Cove You ranked this number one, for its wonderful attention to 'little details' that you say makes Treasure Trove stand above the rest. But for me, that's every level. Every level is carefully crafted. Almost every level has an interesting Grunty switch and memorable characters. Every level transports you into a world that, for Treasure Trove it a tropical vacation, for Freezeezy its Christmas wonder, for Mad Monster its tip toeing through a creepy mansion. And yes, even Bubblegloop gave the feeling of trekking a forest with my dad, in muddy boots. In other words, what you think makes this level special is part of why I think makes Banjo Kazooie the best 3D platformer ever made. (But Banjo's attention to detail is not the only reason its the best. There's also: its willingness challenge, its unique immersion and its inter-connectivity. My top three will covers each.) #3 Rusty Bucket Bay While Rusty Bucket is iconic for its difficulty, in truth it was designed to intimidate. Pushing the player to do uncomfortable things. Jump into a shark cage, the fight aggressive enemies, toxic waste, swimming into ship propellers. Even the water is something to be fear, making the player think twice before swimming under, making a plan of what to do first, perhaps like they would diving in real life. This intimidation is at its most naked in the bows of the ship. The dreaded Machine Room is a spectacle of camera work, starting first by staring down as you descend the smokestack, then narrows and opens onto the spinning display of churning gears and chopping blades. At that moment, you realize you've entered somewhere you shouldn't have, featuring the only pitfall in a main level. In truth, the machine room is place very close to the levels spawn point so its more forgiving than it seems, the only unfair part being the spinning blades that can be hard to time. The whole level is forgiving, having two parts, the boat which functions like a mini-mad monster mansion, and then a surrounding linear obstacle course, that still manages to resemble a Liverpool factory harbor. Its very open so that players can navigate around the challenges they don't like. I fear this level of challenge has been lost to modern children games. But for those of use who are old enough, there will always be a place in our nightmares for Snacker and the Engine Room. #2 Gobi's Valley This is the best ordinary level of the game. When you put Rusty Bucket last, I was unphased expecting it even, but this placement honestly surprised me. This level lacks charm? Its dripping with atmosphere and exotic detail, and has several memorable characters. Gobi, the Sphinx, Grabba, the palm tree, King Sandy Butt's horrifying maze. It has the best level design. Its big but still walkable. Every nook has something interesting in view, and it also has the best challenges in the franchise. Unlike Tooie, where all the minigames are ham-fisted and colorcoded, these puzzles are diegetic to the booty-trap tomb exploration, creating more immersion rather than taking you out of it. Like Treasure Trove its a case study in good level design. There's nothing bad about this level. It should be #1. But in terms of what makes this franchise great, what sets it apart from (and superior to) Mario or Rayman there is only... #1 Mad Monster Mansion You already know what's special about this level, and you even pointed out my favorite jiggy in the game. The Gutter Jiggy. Its so counter intuitive to the genre. In a Mario game, you would do a bunch of platforming to get it, but no. In Banjo, the only way you get it is by thinking of the water spout as a real waterspout. Forcing you to not only consider the room in the context of the level, but to think of the level as a real world place. Inter-connectivity. Immersion. But this kind of thinking is all over the game. Its how you get blubbers treasures in the ship's hull, its how you reach the jiggy behinds Clanker's tooth, and these logical thinking puzzles are naturally all over Click Clock Woods, since its an interactive time travel level. As a young impressionable mind, I felt like Mad Monster Mansion was a real place. Even if some parts are gamified with comical proportions like the giant church interior. After all this isn't Super Mario Sunshine, Miyamoto's answer to Banjo Kazooie, where every setting and platform was hyper realistic. No, Banjo strikes that perfect balance. A balance that I feel has never been hit since... Thank you for reading this. There's a lot I didn't touch on. Like how I don't think the mumbo transformations or new moves are really that important, since the game is mostly built on the large move set you leave the tutorial with. (Like how Zelda BOTW is “so revolutionary” for doing the same thing with the sheika slate 20 years later.) Like how the entire soundtrack is a complete banger roaster from start to finish. I could keep going, but I'll just stop here.
@SquallyCoin56643 жыл бұрын
One thing about RBB, the engine room is a little too difficult. They introduce toxic water, and instead of using it in there, they said bottomless pit, which doesn’t even make sense, I’m inside a boat, how does a boat have a bottomless pit inside it. If I made RBB, I would put Toxic Water at the bottom with a ladder back at the start of the area, so it would be more fair Also, it kinda wasn’t obvious to hit the windows. It’s basically almost impossible to tell the difference between a normal window and breakable window which makes it a hassle to check every window. I would’ve made it so it was more easy to tell one from one, but obviously it wouldn’t be like a huge arrow, but like, a subtle difference.
@grey-spark3 жыл бұрын
@@SquallyCoin5664 Funny you should mention putting water in the engine room, since that really was going to be the original idea. The player was going to have a way to fill the room up with water. In fact, the underwater engine room music is still in the game files unsued. I'm so happy they didn't do it. I love how the engine is a deathtrap. Because honestly most machines are. Machinery and industrial work is extremely dangerous. Just watch a video of a maintenance worker climbing to the top of a cellphone tower without a line, to them the endless fall is very real and the engineroom captures that sense of industrial danger. And if you fall, the door to the engine room is almost right in front of the levels start pad.

I liked the first level but I think they introduced the idea of expanding levels way too early. I expanded the ice level immediately which was already massive and it really wore me out on the size of it along with the limited movement. Your character doesn't flow well like spyro, bk, jak and daxter. It tries to emulate the movement style but it does it in a clunky way.
@chompythebeast3 жыл бұрын
@@sndn7733 Yeah letting you increase the size of a level before you even see the level at that size tier was a bad call that I didn't understand. If they really wanted to use that gimmick, the game should do more to not just force you to experience the levels at their various sizes, but to _reward_ you for doing so. As it is it just feels like you're sort of wasting your time not upgrading levels as much as you can as quickly as you can. An example of a level that changed in various stages and revealed them to you one at a time (and did it all really well) is Click Clock Wood―it's almost like they wanted every level to be Click Clock Wood-esque but sort of didn't earn that evolution as much as Kazooie did

1. Click Clock Wood (My favorite level in my favorite game) 2. Freezeezy Peak (Great theme handled perfectly. Very rewarding level, with many of the same pros as Gobi's Valley) 3. Gobi's Valley (Not too big, not too small, most puzzle heavy world. Feels the most distinct in my mind, along with Freezeezy Peak) 4. Mad Monster Mansion (Nails the theme, decent size, with even more to do once you get into the sub zones. Doesn't feel dragged down by theme like CC & RBB) 5. Treasure Trove Cove (Some of the best music and a very visually fun level to play in. Adds a lot to the early game, though it does have a bit of the big & empty feeling of CC) 6. Bubblegloop Swamp (From a collectathon standpoint, this level is probably the best. It is pretty straightforward and not overly challenging. A good midway point for the game.) 7. Clankern's Cavern (Too much water...no jk. A solid water level with a decent amount of fun & challenging platforming. Clankern is a fun idea, but also feels like a a mini level inside a larger empty one at times) 8. Rusty Bucket Bay (Overall difficulty is high (in a good way), though the Engine Room can be painful. Lower on my list due to personal preference over theme and appearance.) 9. Mumbo's Mountain (Great first world, but a bit small and simple compared to the ones that followed it)

1# Click Clock Wood (This one is magical so many emotions after a long journey you get all in one especially autumn. I cant describe it but it has just something I feel about this. First I liked it not most but the magic from the layer into this world and playing with the emotions from the previous worlds with all seasons makes it the winner) 2# Freezeezy Peak (the xmas vibes are just perfect I will always remember it has also one of the best soundtracks and the magic key was like a xmas present you are weaiting for and hope to get it) 3# Treasure Trove Cove (this one is like a journey into a tropical paradise a world that has to be loved) 4# Mumbos Mountain (you came from spiral mountain in a beautiful simple intro level a perfect start I love always to remember) 5# Gobis Valley (the desert level should not be missed the ancient vibes gives it some extra points was glad to see it in DK64 again) 6# Bubble Gloop Swamp (this is a darker one but one I really loved I has some magic in it never forget the cocodile and the brain task) 7# Mad Monster Mansion (spooky meet british humor a a good contrast to the rest I like it just always feeled sth. missingm to make it even more greater maybe I was looking for Graf Dracula or a Vampire Bride) So far I liked every world in one way and every world has sth. special to have it's places the following two would not be missed if the would be canceled from the game. 8# Clankers Carven (Not a really bad one but I'm not a big fan of slow downed water levels and it was not stunning enough to excuse that) 9# Rusty Bucket Bay (It keeps a good contrast but it was a level I just forget that it exist and had no special moments for me)
Double hot take: As someone who grew up with the game on n64 and only just recently beat it on xbox, rusty bucket bay is one of, if not my favorite level in banjo-kazooie. It just has so much content and I think is the perfect difficulty for a final level. But keep in mind, I never got that far as a kid, so I never got to experience the notes not saving in that level. Also I say perfect difficulty for a final level because click clock wood is by far my least favorite stage in the game. Sure, it's big, but it's just really vertical. And wanna know what happens when you fall on a vertical stage? You fall down to the beggining. On top of that, you have to essentially beat it 4 times and if you die, you have to completely start over and do everything you just did multiple times to unlock everything and it's just so tedious and boring

The original plan for click click Wood was to have the level on a day and night cycle triggered by a switch but this idea was scrapped and they went with a seasonal route instead. The work they already made on this would later be recycled into the fungi forest level in donkey kong 64
This is one of the rare (Not the gaming company lol) games that I completely finished that made me feel a sense of accomplishment as a kid. This game was so complex, twisting, enfuriating, and challenging. Canker's Tavern was the hardest level for me, always felt a lot of pressure when under water. My favorite level by far is Treasure Trove Cove, I can't forget if I tried, such a memorable level. The music is awesome too! When you finally get to Gruntilda's Lair, it feels so surreal. The celebration scenes at the end are so fun and rewarding. One of my favorite games of all-time, spent so many hours trying to beat this insanely creative game. I remember my brothers watching me finally beat Gruntilda lol. Thank you to the creators and all the people that helped make this game, it's a masterpiece really. I haven't played it in ages, but I might try to now. I think I never got 100 Notes in like two levels.

My favorite level was actually Click Clock Wood, for personal reasons. I received the game in Christmas of 98, and I was 8 years old. I made it all the way to Mad Monster Mansion pretty quick - but it spooked me as a kid and I ended up having a lot of trouble getting through it. It wasn't until almost Tooie's release in late 2000 that I actually beat BK the first time - and I remember the absolute awe I was in exploring CCW. To this day, I've always had a soft spot talking about it, and it 's certainly wrapped up in a bubble of nostalgia for me.

Great video, and really nice retrospective. My personal order is fairly close to yours, with a few minor changes... 1. Click Clock Wood 2. Freezeezy Peak 3. Treasure Trove Cove (went back and forth if this should be #3 or #4) 4. Mad Monster Mansion (again, might be my #3) 5. Bubblegloop Swamp 6. Clanker's Cavern 7. Gobi's Valley 8. Mumbo's Mountain 9. Rusty Bucket Bay Look forward to seeing more from you!

Something I love about Clanker's Cavern is that as soon as you enter the main area you see this massive metal Shark that looks very threatening... but soon those fears are laid to rest as Clanker turns out to be an amazingly gentle and helpful NPC. He's not on Grunty's side and is pretty docile. Good at subverting expectations

1. Click clock wood - i love the spring rain! The music is so happy and there are trees and grass everywhere. It was fun climbing to the top of the tree. It was enjoyable to see the house being slowly built too. 2. Freezezy peak- i love christmas! Seeing the little christmas village, lighting up the christmas tree, climbing the giant snowman. So awesome. 3. Treasure trove cove- fun map. I liked the pirate ship. The shark was fun and scary. Nice tropical music. The giant crab was a nice boss battle. The sand castle was interesting. 4. Mad monster mansion- creepy mansion with interesting secrets to discover. The giant hand playing the piano in the creepy church. Being turned into a pumpkin. Exploring the creepy hotel rooms. Good stuff. 5. Rusty bucket bay- i have a thing for ships ever since titanic. I enjoyed exploring the ship even though it was difficult. I liked seeing the rooms such as the kitchen and the bedrooms. I felt like a crewman on the ship. 6. Gobi valley- this level stressed me out as a kid because of the time limits and the immortal mummies. The desert and the pyramids were an interesting concept. I liked the Egyptian music and the great sphynx. This level didnt grab my attention as much maybe because of the stress? 7. Mumbo mountain- this map was decent. There were some fun things to do like throwing the oranges and battling the giant monkey. The ant mountain was neat; climbing the mountain was an accomplishment. The map doesnt really stand out though. The map was plain. 8. Bubblegloop swamp- i didnt really enjoy this map because i always had to wear those green boots to get anywhere. The swamp design didnt really catch my interest either. Lots of dark and dull colors i suppose. 9. Clankers cavern- this map gave me a really hard time as a kid. I drowned so many times and i kept getting lost inside clanker. I didnt know where to go a lot of the time. The colors and industrial looking design were really ugly and unappealing. I enjoyed helping clanker though and i felt sorry for him because he looked like he was suffering. I still love all the levels no matter how frusterating!

LOL same ranking as mine! Clanker's Cavern also gave me a hard time as a kid. Like we (together with my dad. He played this game more than me and Im just watching him and hopefully, let me play too 😂😂) got stucked in this level for like maannny months trying to figure out how to make Clanker go up. So we did not play this game for a long time. we stopped trying to solve it and played Mortal Kombat 4 and Golden Eye instead. But then 1 night, I sneaked while dad was asleep and played it again and I miraculously pulled it off 😂😂 I hesitated at first to tell my dad that I figured it out because he might hit me real good but luckily he did not. RBB also gave us a hard time but we all figured it out. Also watched the Banjo Kazooie hidden stuffs recently and Im pretty glad that I know all of them. Makes me proud that we played this game really hard that I know almost every detail 😅

Banjo-Kazooie will forever be the game that made me into a gamer. I played games on NES and Sega Genesis occasionally when i was little, but in 1998, this game was the first one to make me truly appreciate what rewarding experiences video games can be. When I got to Click Clock Wood for the first time, it was an absolutely magical feeling. It was on a completely different level from every other world in the game. The downright enchanting music, the massive scope of the world, and most of all the bee transformation. Even though you could already fly with the Flight Pad, there was just something incredible about being able to fly completely without limitation in the bee form. I would spend hours and hours just flying around the spring variation, exploring the various heights of the giant tree. The way you have to gradually unlock the other seasons by exploring the previous ones almost makes Click Clock Wood feel like a separate game within a game. My favorite level in any platforming game, period. On a side note, to this day I think that the Grimlets (invincible porthole enemies in Rusty Bucket Bay) are very disturbing and creepy. They fool the player into thinking they can go down them, and then let out a startling, low-pitched growl as you get close to them. Get any closer and they quickly lunge out and bite you like a big snake.

Interesting that we disagree so much 😂 My list: 9. *Mumbo's Mountain* - well designed, but just a bit simple and boring 8. *Gobi's Valley* - good balance of difficulty, but nothing especially memorable 7. *Clankers Carven* - should have been the 5th level, the camera controls really negatively affect the level IMHO, although I only have the N64, it might be better on xbox 6. *Bubble gloop Swamp* - some great moments and best transformation, but I actually find the pacing of the jiggies is a detraction rather than advantage. The last 2 or 3 get quite tedious 5. *Treasure Trove Cove* - sacrilege! tbh I think TTC is overrated, not that it's bad, its great, I just never got the visceral appeal that most others seem to. 4. *Click Clock Wood* - Really inventive level, but it just gets a bit thin when you have to have stuff spread over 4 seasons. I think this would have been greatly improved by being about half the size. 3. *Rusty Bucket Bay* - Top 3, to me Rusty Bucket Bay is worth admission for the difficulty alone, it's by far the hardest level in the game, and exploring every nook and crany under many threats that can pretty much instakill you if you are not careful make it truly memorable, sometimes frustrating, and always gives a sense of accomplishment, even as an experienced gamer. 2. *Freezeeasy Peak* - pretty much agree with you. If I just want to play the game to mess around, this is my go to choice, only surpassed by: 1. *Mad Monster Mansion* - I'm usually one for Horror, but mad monster mansion is more spoopy than scary; great atmosphere, almost the perfect size, and while I always manage to forget about at least one room, the level feels perfectly paced. There are no freebees that are in every other level including RBB, every jiggy requires you to solve some challenge, whether it be a puzzle, a race or a fight. incidentally, I am one of the masochistic people who actually really liked the all notes on a single life thing. I get that maybe it wasn't the most friendly thing when it was tied to progression, but to me, even more than Jiggies, getting 100 notes was the test of ultimate mastery in the level, and I'm very sorry that they didn't bring it back for Tooie. I would have preferred that maybe the Jinjo's were how you progressed through the world (the challenge of getting 5 jinjos was never that great a challenge anyway), and the notes could have gotten the last jiggy. That way, you could progress, and you would only need to come back and beat the note scores of 3 of the levels to get to Grunty.
@BrickFlairMMA2 жыл бұрын
I’m the same man! It adds a layer of difficulty to the game having the get all the notes in one go makes the game so much better! I just played through the N64 version on the switch it’s the way to go!

Very good video! As for me, I was never fond of making Top 10's lists and stuff, so I'll just share some (actually many, holy crap I wrote an essay) general thoughts. - Grunty's Lair is a very intricate and very well designed hub world. Hidden passages, secrets, jiggies, theme transitions and big setpieces, and, Betilda... (we'll get there), the constant presence of Winkybunyon mocking you... It's fantastic. While some could consider it too linear to properly go around easily after opening many worlds, the Warp Cauldrons fix up that issue. They even tease the last world of the game right within the first rooms! - Mumbo's Mountain is simple and sweet, and while it looks more like a valley, there's still a lot of charm in those early simple missions, where everything is new and wondrous. - Treasure Trove Cove is definitely one of the best levels for me. The Sand Castle with the lettered puzzle (and the cheat codes!), the menacing Snacker the Shark, Cpt. Blubber's pirate ship, the lighthouse, the treasure hunt, the verticality and all the flying... It feels like one of the most liberating and sandboxy levels I've ever played, period. - I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Clanker's Cavern. Given it's a more heavily focused water level, and a sewer level on top of that, I remember enjoying its pacing! While the jiggies themselves aren't all the most memorable, the ones that are memorable were pretty cool, and exploring the insides of a garbage disposal robotic shark is disgustingly interesting! - Bubblegloop Swamp had many strong moments, like the platforming or the landmarks, and Mr. Croc's minigame, while a tad frustrating at the end, was very satisfying to beat. And yeah, while it does plateau a bit here, Mumbo Jumbo's transformation keeps things fresh. - Freezeezy Peak was an absolute wonder. Climbing the Giant Snowman, climbing and flying around the Christmas Tree, walking amidst the quaint village, racing Boggy and being teased by the Ice Key... There's an added sense of wonder that can't be conveyed by just saying how technically good the world design is and how great the missions are, this world is quite literally a bit more than just the sum of their parts. If anything, it might be a tad bit too crumped to fly around, but I don't hate the backtracking, even if it's ultimately pointless. Which brings me to a small intervention here, that point about backtracking done right in a game, and how it shouldn't be just to beat a mission that you could've beaten immediately at the moment if you had the abilities, but it should rather unlock an entire new side are for you to explore, jump around and stuff, introduce a neat NPC even, maybe have more than just one mission. It would be a bit harder to accomplish with Banjo-Kazooie's Note Score thing, but the Notes could be just confined to the main area to avoid annoyances. But I digress. Anyway, let's keep on going... - Gobi's Valley, while not a favorite of mine, it has a ton of strong moments. And frankly, these negative thoughts may just be the flashbacks of Shifting Sand Land speaking... or the kinda too bright yellows, maybe they could've desaturated those a bit. Other than that, we've got pyramid and tomb exploring, we help a Sphinx sneeze, and we even escape from a maze trap of death. What's there not to love? Also, Trunker is a tree with style, and you get to free the titular Gobi... and then you abuse him. I don't know if this is bri'ish humor, but I love it. - Mad Monster Mansion is another of my most favorite levels, not only due to the greatly executed "haunted house" theme, but due to how intricate everything is, as there are so many passages and entrances, it's phenomenal. Plus, it can also count as a "big house" theme, well, inside some parts of the house at least, and it's the first level that actively pushed it's mechanics way past the boundaries of the level, instead of just helping us get another Jiggy at Grunty's Lair, forcing the player to be clever about what they're doing (we're past the halfway point of the game, so they'd better have done that). I also noticed that, just like Mumbo's Mountain (the valley and the titular mountain), Clanker's Cavern (both titular elements of the title) and Freezeezy Peak (the snowman and the entire valley around it), we have distinct main areas on the entire world, them being the titular mansion, and the gardens around it, specifically the hedge maze. All in all, super top notch world, I love it. Also, fun fact, did you know that this world has two Mumbo Tokens that count as one? They both appear in the world, free for grabbers, but if you get one, the other will disappear! Strange, ain't it? Is it a glitch? A incomplete feature to help us find the tokens more easily? Who knows... - Rusty Bucket Bay. You know it, I know it, we all know it. As far as I can remember, this was the only world I had died in, once. Deep into the level too, and in the infamous Machine Room no less, so many notes were lost. Plus, the water suffocates you just by being in it. Riveting. Also, Snacker returns for a section, did you miss him? Jesus, it really seems like this world was designed to give you a tough time, and make you remember it. But despite that... I still liked it? Yeah, I think I did! Not as much as some other worlds, but I'd say it's in the middle. Why? Well, the world is just as intricate as Mad Monster Mansion, for starters, and I feel like this world in specific does sholed some light on how far you've come, and how more complex and intricate the missions are now. Plus, take a look at the list of level theme tropes. Pretty sure that, while "factory" will appear, I'm pretty sure that "industrial docks and tanker" won't. It's a memorable world, with a memorable song, and honestly, I appreciate the increased challenge, despite the Note Score limitations. The infamous mission itself isn't tough as nails either, it just requires timing, calm and control, though I'm still not a fan of the random bottomless pit (the only real one in the game if I remember correctly) in the insides of that tanker. Y'know, a boat. Which needs a bottom to float. And it has a bottomless pit inside it. Makes sense. - Click Clock Wood... hmmm. Well... while I don't dislike the level, and I'm a big fan of the concept of using seasons to change the world you're in, as well as many of the setpieces all around the world... this level feels like it's too long for its own good. If it was only one season, it would be a perfectly sized level, grand in scope, height, width, it could actually be a bit bigger or deeper, compared to the time you spend jumping around in the two previous levels. Plus, Spring has definitely the coolest Mumbo transformation, that bee is awesome, letting you go anywhere you want easily, and streamlining a lot of the moving around. Then you add another season, Summer, which has more stuff to do, and makes you to climb the tree by your own merits and jumping skills. And you get to abuse Gobi. Plus, you get Then Autumn, which... well, it starts to overstay its welcome a bit, but the level looks nice, and there's still a few more things to do, though climbing the tree is tougher now. And you get to abuse Gobi. And then Winter comes, and... _sigh,_ honestly by this point, I just want to be done with this world. Especially now because, well, we have the most sadistic environmental hazard of the game. The frosty water. It works just like Rusty Bucket Bay's oily water, in that you lose air just by being on it, and you lose it twice as fast when diving... with the added predicament that most of the water's surface is frozen solid, aside from a few holes. It's not necessary to go in there, but if you're aiming for a full health bar... Well, good luck. And people say the Turbine mission was tense... if I didn't die in this part, that could've happened to me just as well. Which, given how close you are to the end, with almost all notes and jiggies, is something you definitely want to leave for last. Taking care of Eyrie was pretty neat though. - Grunty's Furnace Fun is next! Yep, I'm not done with this essay-sized comment. This board game thing is a testament to just how memorable everything in this game is. I remember not failing a single question!... But then there's the Grunty Spaces. Now look, I don't hate them, I don't mind them. I took notes of every hint provided by Betilda, so I was always golden. But... man, I can see those being annoying on repeat playthroughs, and especially speedruns. Having to take note of ALL the hints again, only for you to only use like 2 or 3 of them, it can get a bit annoying for those who wanna go on a skill-based romp multiple times. And finally, the final fight, a true test of all your skills and abilities. It's long, but I love it nonetheless. Plus, it has the (at least until the bear and bird duo's inclusion in Smash) only appearance of the Mighty Jinjonator, and that is the coolest and funniest way to send an evil witch to her grave. This sentence will never make any sense outside of this context.

I'll die on the hill that, playing on the N64 and going for 100%, Click Clock Wood is WAY WORSE than Rusty Bucket Bay. When playing Rusty Bucket Bay, what I usually do is go straight for the infamous Engine Room and collect the notes in there. If I die during this, I won't miss much, I'll only have to do the Engine Room again and you can get there pretty fast after restarting the level. On Click Clock Wood, however, I dread the feeling of dying during Autumn or Winter and having to go through ALL OF THE SEASONS again. It's crushing being on Autumn or Winter, misplacing a jump and end up falling all the way down to your demise and losing all of your notes in the process. Having to collect them all again is way more a chore than having to go through the Engine Room in Rusty Bucket Bay over and over again. Just to be clear: I love Click Clock Wood, it's definitely one of my favorite levels in the game, only after Bubblegloop Swamp, probably, but I HATE dying on it.

My personal rankings #1 Click clock wood: I love the seasons, each one brings new things to do, the vertical climb is daunting yet fun. Bee banjo Is the best transform in the game. #2 Freezeeasy peak: Christmas theme is so cozy. Walking on the snowman is awesome, and walrus banjo makes me laugh. #3 Treasure Trove Cove: love the pirate theme, blue skies, music, overall feel. #4 Mumbo's mountain: The first, cmon! Healthy hits of nostalgia here. It's too short but it's such an iconic level, I remember playing it on the Sears display console back in 1998. #5 Rusty bucket bay: I like the challenge, feels evil compared to the other levels. Like a nightmare. #6 Gobis valley: unremarkable level but the desert theme is kinda cool, fun pyramids, fast shoes are fast. #7 Bubblegloop Swamp: unremarkable as well, easy level except for a couple spots, just unremarkable overall. #8 Clankers cavern: I just don't like underwater levels thay much, inside of clanker is cool though. #9 Mad Monster Mansion: I don't like pumpkin banjo, there seem to be a lot of weird barriers for where you can go, and I just have a hard time with this one in general. I don't dislike any level, but MMM is a little daunting for me, and I rush through clankers cavern.

For me: 1. Treasure Trove Cove (It's easily one of the most open, and fun stage to explore, with a few fun side areas. And it's more then possible to pass through each area in one shot). 2. Mad Monster Mansion (I like the compact design of this stage, while it can be easy to get lost; and finding some of the secret rooms can be tricky, I find it to be a lot more fun). 3. Freezeezy Peak (This stage is legendary, and fun to explore for it's setting, and welcoming aura of emotions. It's just such a good Christmas themed stage) 4. Rusty Bucket Bay (For as rough as this level is, I actually find this refreshing. Banjo had mostly been pretty easy, and RBB cranked that up much more. As long as you do the Engine Room first, it's really not as bad as people say it is, aside from how testy some of the slope physics can be; which is it's own problem.) 5. Mumbo's Mountain (Good intro stage, handles the Grassland stage design well while having it's own aura and feeling). 6. Bubblegloop Swamp (I'm not a huge fan of the Jigsaw Switches in this stage; since they only appear in this level (for some reason), and overall, the gimmick of dangerous water, becomes very annoying easily. But, the rest of the stage is tons of fun to explore and play, especially with Minigames like the Tiptup Choir and Mr. Vile). 7. Clanker's Cavern (Water levels are generally slow, Clanker's Cavern makes this rather upfront; since a good chunk of the level is inaccessible until you perform the deep dive and free Clanker. But, the gimmick of entering Clanker, and exploring inside him, offers unique puzzles and interesting level gimmicks; though ultimately, it dries up pretty fast). 8. Gobi's Valley (Generic themed Desert stage. While I like the music, the level has a ton of quicksand just tossed all over, and it can be annoying to navigate without bleeding health every minute. Flight pads help slighty, as do the wadding boots; but I find this just pads the stage). 9. Click Clock Woods (While this stage's gimmick is amazingly solid in concept; it wears off very quickly in gameplay terms, when you realize it's an excuse to have you explore, not 1 giant map, but 4 giant maps with slight differences between them. The idea is interesting, and the music is catchy, memorable, and ear-wormish; but nothing can forgive the raw anger of dying, and having to redo all 4 areas from scratch. And if you miss any notes; you basically have to start all over again, because you'll never remember which section you might've missed them in; unlike Rusty Bucket Bay, which presents difficulty as raw challenge, Click Clock Woods prefers to use padding, and frustration... which imo is far worse. Plus, the amount of Copy/Pasted Cluckers that are positioned around the tree, makes the stage very irritating as you progress, there always seems to be ONE that you missed).
