You don't peel off anything from the friut bars. You eat it all. It's not paper :)))))
@branislavbily63818 жыл бұрын
What is that? I live in Slovakia but Ive never seen this kind of bar. I also thought it was some sort of paper :D
@IntruderPL28 жыл бұрын
Inside you got partialy dried fruits and raisins. The "paper like" sheets are eatable also. It's a very thin and soft wafer :D They're there to prevent the bar from breaking apart. I eat those from my MRE last weekend. I'm still alive ;)

Ever been to the church ? Its same what they give you . Also I remember growing up in Hungary we had those in a pack of 10 that you could of buy at the pharmacy . They use it to put medicine in for kids

Kiwi Dude here in germany that paper stuff is very common you can buy "edible paper" in stores, it's pretty much the same, rice flour or starch or something with water as the guy before me said :) usually they are coloured or printed like fake dollar bill designs on them for the kids. You also get them as "Back Oblaten" for baking (you put a blob of coconut dough mixture on it and bake it)

dried fruits are given to make some kind of drink with boiling water (in polish it is called kompot (compote) ).
@KiwiDudeMRE9 жыл бұрын
+FilipEffatha I'm looking forward to trying that with the next Polish ration :-)
@wlochu939 жыл бұрын
+FilipEffatha I personally better like to eat them by itself
@takitam25219 жыл бұрын
+FilipEffatha No, they are not. They are eaten dry - straight from the bag. They are added to the rations because of high fiber content which is healthy for digestion. Ration food is condensated and lack of fiber which can lead to constipation. It is true that there is compote made from dried fruit (mostly apples and plums), but it is traditional for Easter in Poland, and is is made by long cooking (so not very ration-friendly way to prepare) the fruit (just like soup) with added sugar and served mostly cold.
@catsondrugs28188 жыл бұрын
+takitam You also make it with fresh fruit. I prefer fresh to dried imo

Polish food at it's best, got to feed those soldiers well mate!:) White paper coating on a bar is sugar with rice I believe, keeps it together and it edible of course. Would love to get hold of one of these on a trips. Great review, first time seeing these online. Really enjoyed your daughter comments, she seemed to fall in love with that food! I could only suggest, as a Polish fella living in UK that you should definitely try some Polish sausages on a barbecue and perhaps dumplings with wild mushrooms and cabbage! Pure joy;)

I am addicted to them. My friend is addicted to the hard crackers :) the wierd flavor of them is up to cumin inside them. I have also the newest Polish MRE's (for spec-ops kinda) with chemical heater, like in USA MRE and different mix of dry fruits (more of the strawberries and black berries that you can 'refresh' with water) Very good review! Edit: The new Polish rations: SR (S is for older ones) Whole name is: Indywidualna Racja Żywnościowa "SR" - Individual Food Ration 'SR' The whole package is a 1 liter. Producent is: P.P.H. I'm pretty sure the reason why the dried fruits look like that is because they lack sulphur which is used in most commercial dried fruits to retain colour because it affects the shelf life.
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. They did seem prepared for long life as opposed to looks. It was a surprise seeing the stones in there too!
@Guziec198910 жыл бұрын
Hello Kiwi Dude That white thing on the bar is not sulphur! It's a wheat based thin wafer and you eat it normaly. The dried fruit are fruit chips,if you want you can make kompot by adding it in to hot water and boiling it for a moment . There is no creamer because a lot of people in Poland drink their coffee black with no creamer. Good to hear that you enjoy the Polish combat ration.

Watching you trying to eat the biscuits was something to memorize...:) I haven't try those for a long time, but the biscuits were created to resist even a nuke explosion :) it's a legendary food and quite costy one. The flavour and smell comes from the Cumin herb. The drink is a fruit Raspberry tea, which you should use with at least warm water. The dried fruits are: dried plum with pit, dried apple, dried pear (propably, we don't have apricots growing naturally in Poland). Coffee is black because it should be black!!! I must say, that this food ration is quite fullfilling and you can use it as whole day meal if you must. And you must admit, that the meat is tasty... And you can eat that white thing on a muesli bar. It is a sort of pancake:) Smacznego!!!!

Dried fruits apples pears and plums can be chewed for dietary fiber or boiled for compote and eaten along with brew. Name suchary (hardtack) is not derived from sugar but "suchy" that means dry. These are traditional military SU-1 (hardtack, general purpose type one) aromatized with fennel which helps in digestion and reduces farting :). So hard and heavy for nutritional efficiency in volume and weight ratio

Another great video. Flanker tanker said the paper on the fruit bar was edible rice paper. Those dried fruits were pretty "rustic". It seems like the US MRE's have better snacks, (M&M's, cookies, muffin tops, pound cake) but the "foreign" MRE's have better entres.
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
Aha! Thanks Dan. I was sure that paper had to be something edible, but without knowing 100% it didn't feel right to charge ahead and munch it down. That's a pretty accurate assessment on the snacks/entrees too.

Hi, watching this I feel like pork neck is a very under-appreciated cut of meat in English speaking countries. Can't say I've ever seen it on display in the UK, for example. I figure you'd like to know, that pork neck is considered a prime cut in Poland and if you can get it at a butcher's, it is an amazing cut for the grill. Just make sure you make your pieces nice and thin and put them in a marinade overnight. In my humble opinion it can easily rival any traditional kiwi grill offerings and could be an unusual tasty treat to surprise your guests with.

The French RCIR is easily attainable for reasonable prices on eBay, but it really depends on how bad you want it. Considering it's a 24hr ration, you could justify eating nothing but the RCIR for a day. You might even break even ;--)

Kiwi Dude the french ration was going to cost me $70 bucks with tax on ebay im not going to pay what i could pay to get a case of 6 of our mre's for one meal.

the white stuff on the granola bar is rice paper. it's there to prevent moisture coming into contact with sugar in the granola and making everything sticky. it is edible but does not taste good all on it's own as it is mostly made out of rice starch. Dried Fruits were Sliced apples and Prunes

+Kiwi Dude I suspect it is the same thing used for Catholic communion wafers. Or something very similar. Despite growing out of religion and becoming very vocal atheist I still love them. For some reason it confuses more devout Catholics - I think some of them actually believe there's some magic in those wafers and I should react to them as Gollum to that Elf-made "lembas" bread ;) And the died fruits seem to be thinly sliced apples and maybe... prunes? Which reminds me - I have to make some dried apple "chips".... A healthier substitute for cookies and just as delicious ;)

Quick note about dried fruits. And you can boil this fruits in a water and have a lovely kompot. Kompot is a non-alcoholic clear juice obtained by cooking fruit in a large volume of water. P.S: That black one with the "stone" inside was a prune :D

I believe the "paper" was rice paper. A wrapping that used to be common in England around toffees and nugat. Completely edible, and intended to be eaten. A way of wrapping sticky things.

Dried fruit can be cooked with sugar in the water and come out compote or a sugary drink. This white "paper" on fruit bar is edible, it is very thin white bread flake. He is so that you do not dirtying their hands. "Kofik" is simply sweet, except that of caffeine. The fruit drink is a synthetic Tea soluble in hot water. Thanks for the cool video.

Kiwi Dude these are naturally dried fruits mostly apples and one prune. I have to say that I hate compote made with these, my grandma always make it for Christmas - it's traditional Christmas drinkhere in Poland. They are much nicer chewed during march. I love panzer waffles since I was boy scout, maybe because I love caraway ;)

Dried fruit looks exactly like those we had in the Soviet Union. The only ones we have then, so it is not surprising that so many hate dried fruit despite situation has improved considerably since then, and, of course, there are imported ones from those that are cheaper than local to those that are much more expensive and tastier.
@RaSMetalinfy10 жыл бұрын
Them fruit stone things look like dates/prunes.. They are basically dried plums..They are my mums favourite thing xD And i thought the fruit looks like Dry figs.. And no dont eat the stones.. And I love rice paper :P We get like sheets of it here I can't put it down when i get it
@KiwiDudeMRE10 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. There ended-up being so little to eat around the stones, that it seemed odd to have included them (dead weight as it were). The fruit itself was very tasty though, subtle, and could last a long time snacking on the move. The rice paper was a face palm moment ;-)
