Hey can i ask? does ether molecules escape more or less readily from the liquid surface than water molecules?

Since ether (aka diethyl ether, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diethyl_ether) has a much lower BP than water does, ether molecules experience weaker intermolecular attractive forces than water molecules do. Ether molecules escape from a liquid to a gas more easily than water molecules do.

For 11.4, why did you only use .5 mol?

From the information in periodic table, the molar mass of H₂O is equal to 18.0 grams per mole. (1.0 + 1.0 + 16.0 = 18.0) In part (f), it says the mass of the sample of ice, H₂O(s) is 9.0 g. 9.0 g H₂O is equal to 0.50 mol H₂O because 9.0 g is one-half of 18.0 g. If you want more videos on intermolecular forces, check out my Unit 3 videos on this AP Chemistry playlist: bit.ly/FarabaughCEDUnits
