The issue is that with ravenous, a dupe making mush bars exclusively, costs more food to keep alive than what they produce, because of how obscenely slow it is to make a mushbar. It is literally a trap with ravenous, because of how little food you can make versus how much of it you need

Hey major tip for using oxyferns and getting the locavore achievement if you still want to: You can get pips to plant a wild seed ontop of some sand that has fallen onto a flower pot and can uncover the flower pot after it is planted this allows you to copy and the settings of the flower plant anywhere repeatedly it also works with other plants (removes wheezewhort phosphorite costs for full throughput) but still requires fertilization and water for oxyfern for some reason

I've always found setting one dupe with attacking as a higher priority is really useful, they don't do it often enough to be an issue but when you want something dead you usually want it dead now.

Carnivore is easy, you can do it with 8 dupes in 50 cycles... At standard calorie count. With four dupes you only need to get the ranches up fast enough i.e. by cycle ~50. You'll also get a bit of extra time for meat already eaten. Also, it might be a good idea to add a light to the cooking zone...

Yes, but the challenge is getting enough meat. There's no biome with Voles on this start, so the usual fallback isn't an option. Plus, he only has 1 hatch to start with. It's gonna be a barn burner!

Very true. That 1 Pacu is more food he'll ever need. No ranching needed after a while. Just feed it seeds long enough to tame it and get the pacu you need to feed your dupes. He'll have more pacu that he will need soon enough. Then it's food forever with zero labor but a cook. You don't even have to feed them. Lays an egg every 1.5 cycles that 16 pacu every 25 cycles once that 1 is tamed. If he ranches. Cooked fish and BBQ added together is +12 morale food. What is it? 6 Pacu a Dupe when adding BBQ. Or is it 4. Hmm. Can't remember off the top of my head. Pacu are so broken in ONI now with the way they work. Zero effort and you have food forever. It's silly really.

When you were talking about games not being fun, unless there's some kind of difficulty, I completly agree. Without struggle in games, they become really boring and I end up stopping after a while. I find with games like these, I tend to over optimise everything, to the point I don't need to do anything any more, which kinda ruins it haha. Still it's a lot of fun getting to the stage when you can have completly idle people etc.

I'm so glad you started a new ONI playthrough. As for Rancher...: "we don't really have a choice here"... You had but you didn't know it. You printed a dupe with two skill points. It would only take one skill scrubbing for that freshly printed dupe to become a rancher. You would lose the "free" 2 tier skill but that would be an early rancher

IIRC you don't get the skill point back from the free skill, you just lose it. Might have changed since it was introduced so I'm happy to be corrected I just remember trying that and not getting the extra point

@@mattf4239 I don't remember how it was so I had to print 1 more dupe to be 100% sure it works that way now. No, you don't lose the point. The game gives the skill point back if you skill scrub the dupe. It give 1 skill point so having a lever 3 skill means you will need to give 3 skill points (or more) to get the dupe to that level 3 skill again. Meaning a mechatronics free skill would be too valuable to scrub but a level 2 artist or plumber not so much (for me at least). A newly printed dupe with 1 skill point and 1 free skill, gets 2 skill points when skill scrubbed.

You probably can 'plant' the oxyferns. For that, you have to use an exploit involving pips. First, you place down a flowerpot below a supported tile of sand. Then you dig out the supporting tile so that the sand falls down and entombs the flowerpot. Using the pip, you now plant an oxyfern on top of the sand and this will simultaneously count it as 'planted' inside the flowerpot. Now you're able to copy the settings to other flowerpots. This is normally not possible in the game but the oxyfern inside the flowerpot will act as if it was planted inside a farming tile. Your dupes can supply it with water and dirt even though the oxyfern will never use up the dirt. It produces as much oxygen as a regularly planted one. (Credits go to the youtube channel Luma plays where I've seen him performing this trick in his Bugs & Exploits - ONI Let's play series)

I was going to post yesterday, but you're quick this time around! 1. Redundant now with today's episode, but I was thinking ahead. With the hydrogen overflow, have a vertical drecko ranch setup to go. One may turn up randomly on a map or via printing pod (I have had it happen before finding any). 2. If there is time, dig a proper 'wild plant' room at the bottom and force-plant the oxyferns to the correct spacing.

@18:50 Those doors make completely sense: they are required to complete the building unless you build the ceiling last and from outside (and dups might get trapped). Those on a full Rodriguez don't, and if you don't open them they even might slow dups down while building (it seems the animation for opening the doors is slower than dups climbing on a two tile gap - but I'm not 100% sure about that). Anyway, I've spotted on possible source of problem. For a SPOM to be reliable, and not stop w/o power, you need some sort of buffer, either a battery or hydrogen in a pipe. You're taking hydrogen right before the generator (the one for the SPOM), leaving very little buffer in the pipe. Of course that's even more critical w/o a smart battery. Even after you build one, problem is not solved: I've seen my Rodriguezes stop at times if I don't leave the pipe long enough. You usually do because you have a very long radiant pipe behind the generators (BTW, next time try just granite).

Hey francis, Idk if you knew, but when you open the priorities tab and. Click on the setting symbol in the top right corner, then click proximity. That should stop dupes from doing random sh*t other than what you WANT them to do. The amount of hours I've played this game and I never knew that was there, unless they added it recently.

I think it's got both pros and cons - it decreases dupes traveling back and forth around the whole planetoid, but you will wait a lot longer for a dupe to actually go to remote areas and start doing what you want them to do if it's further from your base.

To save on power, maybe think about an open electrolyzer setup as a mid-term solution? You'd only need one pump then for the hydrogen on top and it would be power positive. For cooling a simple water cooling loop running through a cold biome would do the job for a while.

While I always love your videos, I have to critique a bit... no smart battery with hydrogen generator means wasted power and wasted hydrogen. With a smart battery you would be able to toss your overflow hydrogen into a 2nd generator to help power the food production. Also you've got wild lettuce all around, if you just dig holes for the salt water to drain I to.

I tried this challenge myself. Getting a 4th dupe is already too dangerous due to calorie consumption. calorie care packages are simply too good. If you spawn without a Hatch, you might as well restart instantly. Also, to cut down on construction time, i simply made a naked electrolyzer so my dupes didn't suffocate

I generally prefer to have my oxygen sensors at a higher pressure than the hydrogen sensor so the O2 forces the H2 up and avoids the O2 pumps draggin it down. I use H2: Green above 200-400 O2: Green above 600-1000

You're way to addicted to that rodriguez setup, achievement runs are dirty, place 2 electrolyser on top of the base, form a bell above to catch the hydro and open space for the oxygen overflow, done 240 W instead of 1kW (480 as soon as you catch the hydrogen, but then you get 1,6kW which you can use for 3 Incubators as this hatch needs to be breed like crazy).
