@wewille The thing is that I'm pretty sure his contract expired last year so he could have comeback just to play in the world cup and then gone back to the UK. Not like he did a lot of good last time when he got injured after a few minutes in the QF.

@GodOfThunder15 it's not shown in this clip, but if you find the full series of scrums somewhere you'll see stade engaging early. should have been a free kick to quins, and at 4:35 just look at haskell holding robshaw back anyway. what exactly are you saying there should be a penalty for anyway? quins go backwards slightly but it holds up fine.

@murasaki007 his original contract was to expire at the end of this season, but he signed a new one a while back.

The scrum was stationary. The front row had popped up but it is not obvious which, if either team, was at fault. The best option was to reset the scrum in line with 20.4(g). However at the top level referees are encouraged to not reset scrums if it can be avoided. With that in mind a passable option for a referee is to remind the players of law 20.4(f) and encourage them to use the ball before it is a turnover. You seem to be unaware of 20.4(f) ?

I could not watch the last 3 minutes. It was torture. Then turned to immense awesomeness!
@damo235312 жыл бұрын
It's a bit controversial, but the law is clear that once a scrum is stationary, the ball must be played immediately. Obviously there are considerations about what "stationary" means (eg is the scrum in this example stationary?) and also"immediately". Referees at the top level are between a rock and a hard place because they are told to avoid scrum resets, all props cheat furiously, and the basic physics of a modern scrum encourage collapses. (And I am no Clancy fan either - is anyone?)

Was that already the case last year? It's just that I had never really seen any refs tell a team to use it before then. It's become more common lately. I'm no fan of Clancy in general so I might be a bit biased.
@indigojac0813 жыл бұрын
@GodOfThunder15 A penalty for what, exactly? Not being crushed by the Stade scrum? I presumed the ref was saying use it because Stade were not going to get a penalty and they had to actually get the ball out of the scrum to get any points and win. It was useful advice not a threat
@dedken8 жыл бұрын
That was amazing to see again after 5 years. I definitely I can't remember the last 3 minutes - I must have just blocked them out at the time! Stade must have been utterly sick to death of the sight of Quins by the end.

Awesome game but not a patch on the Heineken Cup Final!

@wewille I reckon the NZRU would have given Evans a very good deal to play for 1 or 2 years at most. He isn't paying for the highest paying club in Europe or anything. What did he have to lose? Surely he doesn't have so much pride that he wouldn't want another chance at the world cup if it meant being a backup.

@GriddledSardines Poor ball handling and poor reffing are two different aspects of a rugby game that have no correlation what so ever. Had the ref been good or at least better, Stade Francais would have put up points in other ways and even though they did play poorly they were the better team. With a fair ref they had this game in the bag.
@GodOfThunder1513 жыл бұрын
@indigojac08 The whole game was poorly reffed. Doesn't matter it was a long time ago. It's not the first time a French team is on the bad side of a poor reffing performance and it won't be the last either.

Early engagement by Stade Francais for one of the reset scrums at the end (not shown here); Haskell visibly stepping across to hold Robshaw back in the scrum at the end of this video. Could just have easily been a free kick or penalty to Quins.
