I am very happy with your explanation of the Barry Harris movement Method. I will transcribe all your videos and try to replay them. Over the past year I have studied the Barry Harris method extremely deeply, purchasing books and trying to understand it on piano and guitar. I am happy with your examples. Thanks for that

Wow!! Just ran across your channel. This lesson was so much easier to understand, when it comes to the Barry Harris method. Relating to the family of dominants. Great job👍👍

I don’t know if it has just taken a lot of exposure to Dr. Harris’ theories, but you have fully UNLOCKED EVERYTHING that I was not understanding before even from him! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 Thanks 🙏🏾 a ton and I now believe that using the guitar versus the piano (FOR ME) is the wormhole into understanding what I was not fully capturing before. The beauty of this video is that it provides the multiple new families of chords that we would desire to eventually learn but now we get to see not only where they originate while we immediately understand how to apply them! This FACT leads us to understand another 12, 24, or 36 chords that immediately fit and work whenever our first choice of voicing does not quite match what we are internally hearing. Thanks a lot again and may God bless you richly for this sustainable, yellow brick road! 🎯💯🎉🏆🏁🔥🎂🎉🎉🎉

Beautiful chord movement Mike. My online jazz piano tutor was a student and close friend of Barry’s and he mirrors your admiration for Barry’s unique teaching approach. Barry’s recent passing was a big loss to the jazz community.

Yes, the Barry Harris legacy is such a wonderful gift he has left for all of us to enjoy and explore, his chord voicings and progressions play a very large part in what we define as the jazz sound. All the very best to you on your musical journey. Warm regards. Mike

Great lesson Mike. The examples that you play really illustrate the voice leading aspect of Barry's chordal movements. Very flowing. And it is very cool that just using single notes in between the dim chords implies a whole chord ( and highlights the movement ). This will keep me busy for quite a while. Thanks.

@@MikeHayesGuitar yes ur right mike .ive added some Coltrane patterns I’ve picked up and they sound good with these cells /patterns ..enjoyed this lesson..and it’s a good indicator that just playing a few go too notes are better then running up scales to connect these sub chords 👍cheers mike

I am a total beginner at jazz guitar. Sorry for over simplifying with my question, that is if I ever understood any of it, but is the G being the II chord, the C is the V chord, the F is the I chord and the rest are "approaching" chords?
@MikeHayesGuitar
@MikeHayesGuitar 5 күн бұрын
Yes, that's the basic idea, and the “approaching” chords help you to get there smoothly!
