The mystery 'Tejrjwne' phone box on the outskirts of Hyde

Mr H takes a sight detour from his and the girls day out at Etherow Country Park in Stockport to take a look at a mystery K6 red phone box on the outskirts of Hyde in Greater Manchester, bearing the strange word 'Tejrjwne' where the word 'Telephone' would normally be.

2nd guess.......was this ever used as a Prop for a Film/TV Show and the sign was left behind?Maybe said Film or Show was never released which could explain why there is no trace on the Internet?This has really got my mind ticking over!

It's Brehtonic. It means Yarn Spinner. Tejr = Spinner jwne = Yawn (big gob) You might be familiar with the term Tearaway? originally Tejrwain or nobody or everybody's child.

I like how you went to the trouble to look at this curiousity of a Red telephone Box obviously someone knew what they were putting there - google thinks it means "He whispered"

It's a word in a very old Lancastrian Dialect - which has its roots in Brythonic. It means Gossip Monger! It is pronounced 'Teyer yown'.

One guess is that this is Polish and that word was put there for the Polish stationed in the area during the Second World War.

Very interesting Mr H. I guess it has to be a language of the "Realm." Doesn't sound Welsh or Galic.......Cornish perhaps?? Or.......perhaps is some kind of interdimensional Glitch from a parrallel Universe....🤔

It is certainly intriguing Northern Monkey, there is just the one panel with this strange word on it other than that it looks just like any other red telephone box. I've tried using Google Translate and the nearest language it recommended was Maltese but it couldn't directly translate 'Tejrwene' into English, so who knows?

Yes you can Gorillaau, you'll find the telephone number to the phone box either just above the telephones number keypad or on the information display board inside the phone box along with it's location. Although you may have a long wait nowadays for someone to be nosey enough to answer should you call one.
