In my final part of a 5 part series on MRI, I discuss how the MRI machine uses gradient coils to determine the location of precessing hydrogen atoms. I also do a brief review of all 5 parts

Hi Paul, I've recently started a new job as an MRI radiographer and these videos have really helped me understand the physics behind what I'm doing. Thank for making a complex subject so accessible.

I know this is high school physics, but I am a medical student and enjoyed these videos thoroughly. Obviously, I still have many questions, but the videos provided a very strong basis. Thank you!

I thought there is no way you would explain MRI in 5 videos, but this is superb. Always confused about spin lattice decay and t1, t2....no longer thanks to this! The clearest explaination I have come across. The only criticism is that localisation is not fully explained. I think it should be a little more in depth as it was THE critical step in taking mri from being a chemistry tool to a medical tool in the 1980s. Whats missing is mentioning k space and ff transforms to obtain the image from the localisation and how gradient coils determine then xyz of the voxel.

I enjoyed the video. You gave the formula of flouro-glucose as C6H12FO5. In fact the formula is C6H11FO5. The F replaces an OH.

I love these diagnostic imaging series you have! Inherently interesting physics aside, what inspired you to include medical imaging in your videos? I will definitely be suggesting these videos as supplements to OJT for techs. I hope you continue the series and maybe a include a bit on image formation, or artifacts?

Great series of videos! Why are there initially more parallel than antiparallel? Why does this ratio increase with increasing magnetic field strength?

Thanks for making it clear and simple. Simply enjoyed listening to all the parts of MRI basics. Keep the good work going. One of the best explanations on mri. Sir can u tell me what kind of software u used to explain if it is ok. It would be useful to use to explain in class. Thanks a lot.

Thank you so much. One small query, what about the Earth's magnetic field? Doesn't it interfere with the MRI?
@PhysicsHigh
@PhysicsHigh 4 жыл бұрын
No. MRI B field us of the order of 3-5 Tesla. The earths magnetic field is about 30 micro Tesla. So that’s about 100,000 times weaker.

Wonderful explanation, better than I recall it in school. I have one critique. I would expect a scientist and excellent educator to know how to pronounce nuclear. There's only 1 U. It's not nuc-you-ler,. It's nu-cle-er with the middle syllable having a long E and the last syllable ar sounds like er.

Any chance you could upload one about fMRI / explain the differences for me in a comment! I am a neuroscience student taking a techniques in neuro module and my exam is next friday! I understand that it measures BOLD response as opposed to radiowaves but not quite surely exactly how! Would love your advice this video has saved me for the MRI part!
