I like the workflow set up you use. My protocols are set up to take a 3 plane localizer at once and I hate it for shoulders because they are never accurate and I have to repeat. I feel like this should be a simple protocol but turns into a long scan if it’s not set up properly.

Hi Bac, thanks for the video, would you use similar positioning and flex coil for bicep imaging?
@Nguyen_MRI4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how big the area of interest is. This coil doesn’t cover much
@hopsie99834 жыл бұрын
@@Nguyen_MRI normally these patients are body builders, so big arms, could we wrap a body coil around the bicep the way you did with the flex/shoulder. Or is it better to just use a larger flex coil.
@Nguyen_MRI4 жыл бұрын
I think it would be better to use spine 32ch combined with body 18 if having so. No wrap to cover a larger area. Place the patient all the way to the other side. Of course use cushions and protect against getting burned.
@dt67253 жыл бұрын
@@hopsie9983 For biceps muscle (not insertion), use the body coil lengthwise like you do for long bones. Phase is A>P for AX & Sag; S>I with 100% OS for Cor. If I am mistaken, any correction & suggestion is appreciated,🙏.

Phase oversampling is set at 100%, in this case you could lower that, but the SNR will go down. But I don’t really understand if the image quality will decrease? Does phase oversampling increase image quality because of higher SNR?
@Nguyen_MRI3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Snr or in this case phase oversampling will have a final impact on the image quality. If having low snr on a sequence you will get noise images, thereby mediocre or bad “image quality”

So you can’t use this step for regular shoulder coil right
@Nguyen_MRI2 жыл бұрын
Sure you can. If having suboptimal fat suppression.
@HeyIntegrity2 жыл бұрын
When you use a shoulder coil does it limit the field of view that a radiologist sees? Because I am curious that the 4 channel flex coil can also successfully expand field of view.
@Nguyen_MRI2 жыл бұрын
It will cover somehow same as a shoulder coil. You’re also able to use the larger flex if having so. I wouldn’t use this coil if I had dedicated shoulder coil. A dedicated coil is faster to setup and of course being able to get better images. This approach is for sites which doesn’t have a dedicated coil. If want to see beyond the shoulder, another coil must be used.
@HeyIntegrity2 жыл бұрын
@@Nguyen_MRI Thanks. I think I asked the question wrong so I edited it. So if I understand better now, the 4 channel flex coil will cover same area as shoulder coil. But can also cover more field of view than the shoulder because it is larger. However the drawback is less clear images(in resolution) than the shoulder coil?
@HeyIntegrity2 жыл бұрын
@@Nguyen_MRI have you ever heard of a radiologist complain about not using a shoulder coil or heard from those centers that didn't have it?
@Nguyen_MRI2 жыл бұрын
@@HeyIntegrity no I haven’t. And I have been on private practice without dedicated coils and university hospital with dedicated coils. If want to see beyond what the coil can cover, then we just need to improvise and try to solve the case somehow.
@Nguyen_MRI2 жыл бұрын
@@HeyIntegrity if having the possibilities then use dedicated coil which is easier to create homogeneous images and of course better within shorter time. More channels compare to 4ch flex. This flex is good to use if not having anything else available. I will definitely choose dedicated if possible. It not, then just need to tailor and improvise.
