anybody else notice differences in gelugpa vs kagyu mahamudra ? for example, gelug teachers have a grip like choking chickens - near constant chatter, verbal patterns that don't favor the nature of student. alan's verbalizing while barely drawing breath and waving of hands around is distracting, possibly a sign of the last few stains of continuum? kagyu teachers move by not moving; a child does not have to conceptually analyze to learn to do as the parent. if remote viewing were w/i his millue, he'd know wtf the panchen lama is for example.

As for Alan's take on science, he is as guilty as counterparts in science of missing the point of the processes required for something to be Science, as exemplified by how he choses focus over spacious in discussing contrasting approaches to finding criteria meeting Scientific or Two Truths methodology to study substrate actvity accessible in conventional terms. The question S\B "Who can recognize the commonalities in both for what works and where the holes are in reasoning?" the mistakes science makes in its reasoning methodology will be also found in the reasoning (conceptual analytical) methodology of liberated nondual. With a double threat of exceptional people capable in both areas - kind of like a modern day Tsongkhapa for example - this is to be found. I believe HHDL has just this in mind by opening the door to science for monastics ( NOT science for monks - here he got caught up in false cultural values too ingrained in tradition methodology to escape the gravity). It is such a large, global effort so new that it is unwieldy and undisciplined, and both are still self-grasping as if the inner secret is viewed as enemy reflected in the eyes of the other, rather than the mutual equanimity that will eventual set in. Grow up as a species, people!

I'm surprised at the arrogance of this talk considering how many decent ones I've watched. There are actually cases in the Pali Canon (which is NOT the authority on Buddhism, but one you are elevating as THE authority) of the Buddha being in the 4th dhyana and being approached by a follower and he recognizes them and addresses them. In addition, there ARE mentions of "levels" to each dhyana and their mastery in the Pali as well as Chinese scripture. It's a shame that anyone would make a talk as if they know of everything written in the Pali, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetan, Mongolian, Korean, Gandharan, etc. literature. That's as arrogant as one can be.

ppl cant even correctly explain the order that the physical and mental blisses arise upon accessing the form realm, what need to even mention the 4th. there is no controversy about each of the 4 since the time of nalanda.
