Although it's not shown here I do remember the advert for Sugar Smax and the free plastic models you used to get in them. It would lead to a thundering of hooves down to the kitchen in an attempt to be the one that found it. Although there were four models. An SPV, Spectrum Patrol car, a Maximum Security Vehicle and the Spectrum Helicopter. It was usually an SPV when you did find one. They can go for silly money now but it's crazy to think that they were once just a free gift in a cereal box.
Yes I do recall when I was having a meal in the Post Office Tower - before the restaurant was shut down - a giant lolly was orbiting us. I now know why.

Thanks for bring back some memories, even if it did remind me of my age. I collected all the kelloggs spectrum badges when I was kid and kept them until my parents lobbed out a load of my old stuff after I went to university somehow they missed my Dinky SPV and FAB 1 though, which now sit on the book shelf behind me. Happy days thanks for posting.

Yes! Orbit!! Found both commercials here. Thanks so much. Note that the 2nd advert is meant to be Tony Blackburn in puppet-form, doing the sales pitch; he was approached for permission beforehand and agreed a contract

Great watching Steve Zodiac in colour, Guess Lyons Maid had a bigger budget than the actual show (proportionally). A friend showed me these on 16 mm film in the mid eighties, when there was no internet to feast upon such classics, I almost lost it when they came out saying 'Fasten your seatbelts lolly lickers!'

I have never seen the Fireball XL5 advert with Professor Matic at the controls, thanks for uploading. I know the three other Fireball XL5 adverts and it is fantastic seeing the Fireball flight deck in glorious Stingray-style colour. The advert with Steve and Venus appears to be the only one with the original puppets - Steve Zodiac looks different in the later adverts and the special effects are better.

Still have a Lt. Green one kicking about in a drawer somewhere. Came across it last year along with a Joe 90 badge. I remember the little snap together plastic Spectrum vehicles that were before the badges (SPV, MSV, Saloon car, Helicopter, etc.) When you're 8 years old anything free in a cereal packet is a bonus, especially if it's from the current "trending" kids TV show.

I had the full collection of the car cards and almost all the trains way back then. The 2 stage (Capt Scarlet ) Zoom was sickly sweet as I remember, but I don't remember the sea lolly. You know we had the Thunderbirds Sugar Smacks but I don't remeber the puddle in our back yard ever moving to reveal a secret launch silo.

Very interesting. How did you manage to get these in colour? ITV didn't start broadcasting in it until 1969.
@AbelMcTalisker6 жыл бұрын
The ads were made to be shown in the Cinema as well as on TV so they shot the Fireball XL5 ones in colour for that reason even though the actual TV series was shot in B/W. Of course by the time Stingray aired the series itself was shot in colour for US distribution.

I`m pretty sure, their was a rocket lolly available before Gerry Anderson`s programs, but, I think, they changed the name to Zoom to go with his program`s. I was pretty sure that the Fab lolly was developed especially, I wonder if kids now, know how they came about. I can`t say I remember Super Sea Jet surprisingly. Also Orbit, but, I think I would have been interested had I known. Kellogg`s Sugar Smacks would be called Sugar Puffs in the U.K., I seem to remember collecting some of the Capt.Scarlet badges. All these prices are pre-decimalization in 1971, 6d standing for 6 old pennies or sixpence like the coin, which was 1/2 a shilling, 20 shillings to the £ note as it was then. I believe, I heard the Zoom Lolly had been discontinued, since Lyons Maid was taken over a while back. If you do not mind, I will add to my page. :)
@colinp22388 жыл бұрын
I don't remember the Super Sea Jet either but the Orbit I do remember. The Lady P in the jungle I remember that ad and most of the others but oh so vaguely now. The card collection of the trains and the cars I had at age about 8 or 9 I think. At that time PG Tips also did cards in their packs of tea before there was tea bags and we brewed tea in a pot.
@w.hartnell-lives-on-while-60738 жыл бұрын
I think we used 1/4 lb pkts of Typhoo (Loose) Tea. You could collect the back-panels & send off for full colour poster-size photo`s of famous footballer`s. Such as "Georgie Best" for instance. :)

Them t'were days..... A lad could buy t'ice lolly for tanner, go t'cinema, buy fish 'n' chips on t'way home plus t'large bottle of R White lemonade and still have change from a shilling. There were plenty of jobs for every on and the only unemployed were poets, artists, and hippies (traditional bone idle useless to society waster types). All kids could read properly by the time they were 10 and Britain still invented and produced most of everything in t'world. Now if you tell Millennials that today they won't believe you.
