You may already know this. Upon seeing the E-type for the first time, Enzo Ferrari said to one of the Jaguar staff at the show "You know, the only thing wrong with your E-type? It doesn't have the Ferrari name on it"! (something like that)
@deeremeyer1749 Жыл бұрын
IF he said that, and there is absolutely no "documentation" of that supposed "quote", he sure as hell wasn't talking about "late model" E-type COUPES. And "a competitor"? ROFLMAO. Yeah. Mass-produced "race inspired" E-types were "competitors" for Enzo's hand-built "grand touring" road cars that were Enzo's only REAL "passion" while Ferrari "race cars" were nothing but "busy work" for the "engineers" once new road car "development" was done AND the "race cars" were all "raced" by factory "engineers" and WERE "road cars" only heavier with additional safety equipment. And "Le Mans"? It was not a "race" in Enzo's day and the Ferraris were not "works cars". It was a "reliability trial" and primarily an "engineering exercise" and a full 2-week "grand tour" of Europe ran in a "day". Which is why when Ford's "factory" races cars "beat" Ferrari with "professional drivers" and one "mechanic" behind the wheels - Ferrari never had a "team" of identical cars - Enzo Ferrari was "absent" and could not have cared less. Especially since Ford "invested" more in the GT40 "program" just to "beat Ferrari" - on its second "attempt" against the same Ferrari "field" from the previous year - than Ford "offered" to buy Ferrari "outright". A LOT more. And at the time Ford itself was teetering on the edge of "bankruptcy" and in fact HAD to "go public" AND eventually "retire" all of its "factory race teams" just to avoid being "sold out" because none of Ford's "competitors" were remotely interested in "acquiring" Ford Motor Company at any price. The "Ford family" retains its "controlling interest" in "Ford Motor" despite being a "minority shareholder" because the "Ford family" had to "bail out" Ford Motor Company and "holds" the overwhelming majority of its "debt". And continues to "invest" in absolute dead-end new vehicle "programs" and "development" as well as "motorsport" because as long as Ford Motor has a "negative net worth" there is no risk of a "hostile takeover" and an "outsider" coming in and actually putting Ford in "competition" with the other "Big 2" in "Detroit" by ending Ford "globalism" and the huge losses Ford's business operations "abroad" create every "year".

Restomods like these are becoming more relevant in this day and age of crazy powerful supercars and uneventful, self driving electric vehicles. Perhaps refining classic cars by skilled craftsmen to a level that could be described as `automotive art', like this E-type, is typically British. High-quality Restomods like this, Eagle E-Types, the Singer Porches, the Cyan Racing P1800 etc are infinitely cooler and more interesting than current, modern super, and hypercars. Here in Australia you can't even look sideways without tripping over a speed camera or speed radar. A cool car that is great at 50-60 Mph is way better than one that has no driver challenge at all under 100MPH because you need to be on a racetrack to get any sense of driver involvement. Also, most, if not all fast cars these days come with crappy, flappy paddle auto transmissions which take a lot of the driving fun away compared with a good manual gearbox. Who but Internet fanbois care if their supercar is .3 of a second quicker over a 1/4 mile than another brand? One restomod I'd love to see you do a report on is the Mototechnique Ferrari 308GTB with the 400HP F40 block they are currently producing...it is sublime.

Of course, this is a fabulous specimen. There will be those who want the incredible attention to detail provided by companies such as Helm and no doubt, there'll be far fewer with the funds to make it happen. However, for me the notion of wanting to improve upon what I consider to be 'perfection' is an alien thought. The E type became the icon it is not only because of its incredible beauty, its charisma and performance but also because of its affordability and idiosyncrasies. At over £400,000, there's no way I could relax driving that on regular roads but I do understand there are those wealthy enough for that not be of concern. On a practical note, I do feel that this car looks a little 'bare' without the over riders. This is my first viewing of a Mr JWW video and I must say, what a smooth and confident presentation he gave - no wonder the channel has so many subscribers.
