“Dark Thought” is the song James always wanted to write for Carrie Fisher . It took him a few years to write. It was about the moment he went back to her house after she had died and knocked on the gate. As others have shared they had a very close but complicated friendship. Another really good song from James you might want to check out is, "The Girl That Never Was".

He wrote this in his book “There was also an issue with drugs. Carrie had long been open about her addiction, but at some point it was obvious enough to be of concern. “I stood many times at the foot of her bed at 3am listening to the laboured breathing of someone sounding close to death on heavy medication. Not long before she died, I asked her to be godmother to my son, telling her that I wanted her to take care of herself so that he might know her when he grew up. “Charlie, her best friend, confronted her more directly and told her she needed to quit drugs, but was ostracised by her as a result. I took a different approach and did them with her, pretending to myself that I would guide her to redemption one day - just not today. “The lies we tell ourselves are the ­hardest to forgive. As a result, her ­daughter Billie blames me in part for her death, and no longer speaks to me.”

James said it was written about Carrie Fisher who died in 2016. He writes hauntingly beautiful songs. I recommend his song, The Girl That nNever Was.

It was Carrie Fisher. He wrote his first album in her house. She was eccentric. Piano in the bathroom and chandeliers hanging from the trees in front of her house. Her daughter tried to blame him on her mother’s drug habits. She doesn’t talk to him. As a friend he absolutely adored her. Her death was so hard for him. James always says he doesn’t need a therapist. He said he gets his feelings out in his songs. What a fantastic talented writer, singer.

Carrie Fisher was very good to him and others. She had him live in a little cabin on her property when writing his first album Back to Bedlam. Carrie was having issues with I believe bipolar issues and drugs. She confided in him near the end the stress and pressure for a woman to maintain a certain weight for movies as she was involved with the current Star War moies. She had opened up with him about her fears and turmoils and he with her. They bonded over shared thoughts and fears. She was a God Mother to his children. He loved and respected her a great deal and you can see this in the song

You should get his book James Blunt loosely based on a made up story..He has a wonderful sense of humor too ,been to war , he was in the queens guard ,he is a ski champion he has lived a life ,very incredible person .He was very close to actress Carrie Fisher he always said she was his american mother he would live with her when working on albums she named his first album .You really should get the book .

This others have said he wrote this song about Carrie Fisher. He lived with her when he wrote his first album. He was with her the night before she passed, according to his book.

No point in restating the Carrie Fisher story. This song is so deep, heavy and not only impacted him and the timer it tool for him to be comfortable enough to release it. Our Princess lives on.
