Just one week into President Donald Trump's second term, and The View co-host Sunny Hostin is already bringing the heat! And no, not the cozy, warm-by-the-fireplace kind-more like a full-blown inferno of outrage.
On this morning's show, Hostin was visibly fired up while discussing Trump's aggressive deportation plans, now in full swing under the watchful eye of border czar Tom Homan. The man in charge of immigration enforcement wasted no time defending his approach, telling ABC News on January 26, "If we don't show there's consequences, you're never going to fix the border problem." Translation? A since-blocked attempt to scrap birthright citizenship, a national emergency declaration at the southern border, and nearly 1,000 arrests in a single day of people accused of being in the country illegally.
After watching a clip of Homan's interview, The View panel dove headfirst into the debate, with Hostin pointing out that the so-called "consequences" seem to be disproportionately falling on, well, certain groups of immigrants. She highlighted that while the largest group of undocumented individuals in the U.S. comes from Mexico, the second-largest consists of Asian immigrants-who, last time she checked, aren't walking across the southern border. "I think they come by plane," she quipped.
Hostin didn't stop there. She called out the administration's selective enforcement, noting that while some European and Asian immigrants overstay their visas after entering legally, they don't seem to be the ones making headlines. According to her, this sends a "very clear message" about the administration's definition of a "criminal migrant." And then she dropped the mic: "I think that's racist." Cue the audience applause.
But wait-there's more! Hostin took issue with Trump's decision to "weaponize" the U.S. military for immigration enforcement by declaring a national emergency at the border, which led to a whopping 60% increase in military deployment to remove undocumented migrants. "I just think our military members, many of them did not join the military to do that job," she said, with the kind of tone that makes you nod along in agreement.
She wrapped up her impassioned critique with a particularly jarring example: the story of a Puerto Rican military veteran detained and questioned by immigration officials during a raid in Newark, New Jersey. At this point, she'd had enough. "They are racially profiling in doing this… For the fifty-millionth, thousandth time: Puerto Ricans are Americans!" she exclaimed, exasperated. "I am disappointed, disgusted, and saddened by what I'm seeing."
