I would create a grouping on the day field, and then place the formula in the grouping's footer. Or you could make use of groupings in a query, and then based the report off that query. Have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIi5h5qqjNyNY6c

When I group on the day, I still don’t get the correct result. It seems that in the calculation, access is considering each row as a different day (even though I grouped them by day)

What is the difference between a label and text box?

You use a label when you want to display the text as it is (for example: "The oldest person is "). You use a text box when you want to display the result of a formula (for example =MAX( [Age] ) ).
