Regarding Scanlines: Been talking to Ben and the best bet to add back in scanline functionality is to use a capacitive touch sensor. I'll (hopefully) do a quick follow-up.

I just did this mod today and it was definitely more tricky than the Lynx II screen! So, after re-doing my wiring twice I still had a weird display and it turns out I needed to move A2 and A3 down a pad each to 36 and 59. After that I had a rock solid image. It's a pretty stunning transformation from the original screen!

I did the McWill screen upgrade on my original LYNX and got an Agacart flash cart. The ole LYNX got 30th birthday upgrades. :)

Thanks so much for this video. I have a Ben Venn MK2 Lynx which gets used on a daily basis, totally transforms the machine. Cheers, Alan.

Woo! New video!!! This makes the Lynx so much better, but I can imagine in 100 years time people will be moaning that they can't find original Atari Lynx devices because people modded them with screens from the wrong era!

Given the rate the original screens have failed since 1989, I'd be amazed if any are working in 100 yrs time (or 10 yrs time) anyway. Mind you, you could say the same thing all the Escorts/Cortinas with 302/351's wedged in them :D

Great video, looking forward to doing my lynx 1 lcd this weekend. I'll be going with the non scan line install, so your video has been very helpful. Thanks!

Glad you got it going in the end. I just did the screen from Ben for my Lynx II. I got the lynx II when i was about 6 i think. I thought it got chucked out or broke, I hadnt seen it sine i was a kid. On my 35th Birthday my old girl brings a box from out in the shed and to my surprise there it was, my old Lynx :) :) Did Bens screen mod and now its better then new. Keep up the great content :) Watching on an Apple G4 cube coz why not

This is a good video. I was so afraid especially with that delicate ribbon cable but you made it look easy.

The Atari Lynx was a handheld ahead of its time. Sadly I only ever owned one game for it. Side note: Nice toy collection. I envy your shelf space.

Seeing the entire job done again off camera with rainbow ribbon cable at the end does anything but I still confidence 😂 How is the new display held in place against the front plastic? Is it just the pressure of the rubber parts pushing against the 3D printed bracket? The reason I ask is I was supplied the kit for Lynx II, and wondering if I can secure the display another way.

Lol, is that a docking station within the back ground? Because that would be terrible! Awesome work!!!!

Mmmm. I do enjoy me some fiddley soldering. I've repaired some TI83+ screens that way as well as my first successful TI84+ screen swap. I've got video recorded for the 83 to edit at some point, and I should eventually have a video for the 84 once I get some as-is units for parts that I'm unable to fix. Excellent screwdriver set. I've got an early revision.

WARNING: If you have a later revision BennVenn LCD do *not* install the brightness lead on R9 as demonstrated in this video. Rather, there is a dedicated "Brightness" pad for this purpose. Do not follow my example of using this video as a guide and potentially damage your device!

Could you check california games works properly with the mod, I've just done mine and it has a strange issue with that one game. Great video btw.

I ended up having to use the alternate brightness method you listed at the end as the normal method would cause the screen to start off bright and then just dim out to nothing? However, while the other brightness method works well, similar to the Lynx 2 kit, it doesn't drop the backlight totally off. Another really odd issue, is that sometimes when starting up the Lynx 1, the screen will in fact start in scan line mode? I turn it off and back on, and it will come up in non scan line mode, so not sure how that is sometimes still engaged with the infinite brightness method configured.

Does the screen just sit in place by the pressure of the front cover? I see there are no screws like in the Lynx V2 console

The lynx 2 was too far and grubby the lynx 1 I had when they first came out more of a nice fit for cases without the heavy bulge
