I'm sure alot of people would say the same about the Halo 1,2 and 3 , or even going back the SNES days of gaming, you could also flash forward and say kids will say PUBG AND Fornite are unmatched? Because the word unmatched to me is wrong as it's subjective.

I’ve recently been replaying and reflecting deeply on these titles and I’m starting to realize that Bethesda’s games from this period are objectively quite bad and have been going downhill since Morrowind more so than Fallout 4. The decline definitely began far sooner than most people recognize. New Vegas obviously fares better, and has aged far better being from Obsidian. However, Fallout 3 and Skyrim have a lot of significant problems that people tend to overlook.

New Vegas is one of my all time favorite games. I just took it up again, and I'm playing it with a lot of mods. I like the empty desert, as it feels realistic. I've driven through that area many times, and outside of the city, most of it is even emptier than the wasteland in New Vegas. Mods that add locations help to improve the exploration aspect without adding too much clutter to the desert. I like mods that add interiors to previously inaccessible buildings (i.e. New Vegas Interiors). Mods that add a lot of underground areas are nice too (i.e. A World of Pain). The writing, faction design, and quest design are strong points. Obsidian, at that time, had a better talent for this than Bethesda. Bethesda is best at creating worlds that are fun to explore, but the writing in Bethesda games is often quite weak. For example, I can't seem to get fully engaged with the stories in Fallout 4. Whenever I play that game, I inevitably get diverted from quests and fill the settlements with ugly buildings instead. The opening of Fallout 4 should really get the player invested in following the main quest, but for some reason, it fades into the background after I leave the vault and start traipsing around the ruined world. Maybe the opening is too rushed or feels too contrived, or maybe the Minutemen come into the story too soon and cause a distraction. It seems like a great concept to start the game, but I feel like it should have more impact than it does given the horrific events that it depicts. When building a settlement out of worthless junk feels more compelling than chasing down your husband's murderers and looking for your kidnapped son, something is a bit off. New Vegas doesn't have that problem. From the very beginning, I feel invested in the story, and it only gets better from there. Even the smaller factions in New Vegas are well thought out, and quest lines involving them often have multiple paths and a variety of results possible. One example is the Great Khans. There are multiple ways to deal with that faction, and the outcome affects what they do at the end of the game and what kind of future they have. It is easy to get mad at them early on and want to destroy them since they helped Benny, but holding back and dealing with them peacefully reveals a complex and interesting faction that is trying to make the best out of a difficult situation. In my first playthrough, I massacred them but felt bad about it later after I learned about their history in Boone's quest. In my current playthrough, I stealthily assassinated Papa Khan so that Regis could take over but have otherwise not harmed them. I haven't tried this path before.

I have purest mindset to an extent as well. Mods are cool, but there are games out there that need no mods for me to be able to play them infinitely. Not even for speedrunning either. There are games that are just nice to just experience. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory comes to mind with that. Which I will grant isn’t perfect, but dang it if it isn’t close. I’ve beaten it so many times and even with some of the moments that still irk me to this day I’ll still play it. I definitely am somebody who just plays games to just enjoy them and don’t attempt to seek after mods. New Vegas is fun on its own. Only issue I had with it is apparently this game must have come out when Windows Vista was pretty current and Windows 10 hadn’t come out yet, because there are times the game just crashes for no reason. I heard it could be because it wasn’t made with Windows 10 in mind, so in cases where just to get a game to function as intended is maybe where I am okay with modding. Which is difficult to say if you would consider tweaking a game just to get it to play as intended as ‘modding’, but I guess it sort of is. Since probably wasn’t meant for Windows 10. Great game though.

New Vegas has and always will be my favorite Fallout game, trumps even Fallout 4 and 76 COMBINED. It has some fundamental flaws though that need to be addressed. To optimize it on PC you need the 4GB Loader along with the Script Extender. It's also recommended to find as many stability mods from the Nexus you're able to squeeze in. When New Vegas first went live it was a complete mess. Don't let that dissuade you though, for its faults New Vegas makes Fallout 4, Fallout 3 and Fallout 76 combined seem poor and inadequate at least RPG wise. Here's what I'm thinking. I've played new vegas on 360 since release and i go back to it atleast once a year and i finally got a pc for Christmas and now I'm struggling to get off a modded new vegas..I think to myself "oh ill give this game a try" all the while in my head all I can hear is...."I've got spurs, that jingle jangle jingle"

But any fallout fan whose playing on consoles and are considering switching to PC....DO IT IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS. I've waited years to be able to make the switch and my wife helped make my dream come true

It’s funny because I honestly hate how colorful Fallout 4 is while I feel like Fallout New Vegas is much more true to the apocalyptic wasteland setting. Makes me wonder why Matty prefers Fallout 3 when that’s even more dark and depressing. I guess it’s just less empty albeit still void of color.

This might be because I'm a little bit older, but I loved vanilla FNV! The idea that the world is more desolate, the desert is crawling, and when you do finally get to a building or cave, or a pack of night stalkers it creates a more genuine felling as if you are this person just trying to survive. As was said maybe that is why hardcore is so good. Oh this random shack has nearly nothing of value... Well yeah that is how this post-apocalyptic world would be more often than not. I love that areas of the world might go untouched in some playthroughs. I did not even know the YCS/186 even existed for the first three years I would replay this game, but then I ventured to the North - Northwest part of the map and there is a random group of guys and one of them has this amazing weapon. The one thing that I find as a conflict with the review here is that although Obsidian had more time to construct their game given the game engine being handed to them, they did not get the time to form all of the pieces of the story they wanted. Playing the game with trying to be on the side of the Legion is nearly empty, Ulysses was to be companion with loyalty toward the Legion, I mean his ranch is there "Wolfhorn Ranch". Some the quests connected to Mr. House was dropped aka the importance of certain buildings (being able to do the Lucky 38 executive override). Oh and if Obsidian could have made Freeside and New Vegas itself as big as they had drawn it up to be... it would have been amazing! Obsidian also might have been planning for possible playtime after the main quest is fully complete. I know all/most games have dropped content, but these pieces of New Vegas would have made it near perfection, for its time. Also let's not forget that BGS may have required FNV early in order to possibly reduce the Metacritic score (they needed a 85 for a bonus payment, they got an 84). Sorry for the massive response I just love this game and franchise.' Keep up the great content.

Best rpg ever made imo. It saddens me so many people are turned off by the desert, they can't experience all the greatness hidden behind its rough exterior. In essence, isn't that what Fallout is all about?

First fallout game I played was 76 back when Microsoft brought it to game pass on PC. I’ve enjoyed it and have over 300hrs on the game. During the steam summer sale I managed to snag Fallout 3 and 4 as well as New Vegas. I finished Fallout 4 about a month ago but I’ve been enjoying the countless mods I’ve used. Currently obsessed with playing Cyberpunk 2077 so after this I plan on playing New Vegas. If anyone can lmk of good lore friendly mods on PC please do:).

I am completely sucked in to DOS 2 right now but NV is qued up for me soon, it's been awhile, haven't played it that much, just a few times. Fun game and also, having spent a lot of time in the actual Mojave area of California, it is amazingly spot on, I began the game the first time thinking, well, a nuclear war and not much has changed. I was truly impressed with the environment.

Ah, PS3 FONV GOTY Edition was how I first played the game. I loved the playthrough despite the chronic fps drops and lengthy loading times. The setting, stories, characters, levelling, looting. New Vegas is easily in my top 5 for favorite game of all time.

I love the enthusiasm Matty but like many others here we're burnt the fuck out on New Vegas. I've literally played New Vegas soo much that nothing fazes me anymore. I played every build searched every nook and cranny and explored everything with wild wasteland perk. The DLCs included. I love the game but I can't go back.... Skyrim is different because it's organically made to be unique almost every time you play it and move around. Not soo much with New Vegas, New Vegas is pretty linear in comparison.

I wish could memory wipe myself, it's my fav game ever but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't burnt out a bit. I gotta disagree with you on skyrim tho, skyrim is a very much on rails experience. It does have procedurely generated quests/radiant quests but they are always the same and get old quick
@willcoleman33302 жыл бұрын
@@notimportant8643 yea I get being burnt out. But skyrim is just as if not more so on rails. The only thing you can change about skyrim is your build. It's the same experience

I love the idea of replaying games as an adult, I especially love playing games that I experienced before high school, the once that I dropped because I had a hard time understanding them. But picking up on things that my undeveloped brain couldn’t see, like the mechanics and stuff.
