They were a small independent studio when they bought the rights to BG3. They need to work towards a budget and a deadline or go under, as they often enough almost did in the past. So they wrap up a game when it is good and release. Then, when the sales show them that the have a total winner on their hand they can start working on the next game(s). Initially with a small team to sketch out the outlines of the future. And meanwhile the rest of the studio can start working on all these wonderful things that did not make it in the initial game because of time and money constraints. The money is there therefore the time is there. When the time comes to move the whole team into the next game is when they will really wrap up BG3 with a free Definitive Edition for all existing players. Its Tradition ;-)

Because they listen to their fans' feedback and by doing so they have amassed a group of lifetime customers. Another benefit is players become more forgiving about mistakes. I remember they had a patch that introduced a bug that effectively froze up many people's gameplay under certain preconditions and it took them about a month to patch up, but while some were outraged and bitter about it, the majority of the community was in good spirits because they trusted that Larian won't leave them stranded, so everyone just moved on to start a new playthrough or just waited patiently, and as expected Larian delivered and fixed it. That kind of trust is rare in modern gaming where the players' first expectation is that they're screwed because they already paid the money and their problem doesn't matter to the developer.
@astranger44823 күн бұрын
The thing is, they have a big team and not all of them can start working on the new games yet. So they keep a lot of people employed polishing the old game. Larian has a bit of a reputation, the kind of reputation that makes players shell out a neat 100 million for an Early Access product. That reputation is mostly built on promising a good product and then delivering a better product.

@bernhardk.2437 That's plenty of hours. Personally I'm only at the 320 mark. And yeah, honor mode is tough, I think it's a test for broken builds to be honest. I beat honor mode once with invisible shenanigans and will definitely replay again after the patch- so that's a solid 30+ more hours haha.

The kind of game that made me feel bad about getting it on sale, lol. I wasn't sure I'd like it. Now it's one of the best games I've ever played.

I really hope this next patch also fixes the various reactivity issues. Like Karlach always saying that Wyll sold his soul for his dad despite doing the opposite, or the entire party acting like I betrayed Shart to Viconia even if Shart already left the party in a previous act, or Astarion acting like you betrayed him by killing the Rat Guy BEFORE possibly knowing he's important to the Orthon. Also characters still get amnesia about the astral prism; re-learning that it's a githyanki relic multiple times in a single playthrough and then acting like it's the first time that this information has been revealed, and then Lae'zel acting surprised at camp with Shart despite them both openly talking about it beforehand.

@astranger44823 күн бұрын
Yep. They have money and they have a team. But not everybody can start working on the new stuff right away so to earn their crust they can go over all these goodies that could not make it in the release version. The day the team is needed for the new stuff is when they will really wrap up BG3. We all remember how long BG3 was in EA. The EA for the new game might well be the size of that BG3 tail ;-)

@michaelknox371527 күн бұрын
Damn shame for mk1.
@route77productions27 күн бұрын
MK1 is a good thing. The game has way more issues than simple fixes will mend. MK1 needed more customization, better replayability with it’s Invasions mode and a little more content. I’d rather them move on and take all the feedback into their next game. Since it’s probably 3 years minimum, away.

I don't think they can legally do that, unfortunately. Artificer isn't part of the Open Game License, so adding it would involve a lengthy talk with Wizards of the Coast.

The 12 subclasses they chose surprise me. Crown, Arcane Archsr and Swarmkeeper especially are interesting choices, they aren't exactly the most loved subclass from their og class. I'm curious what changes Larion will do to bring them in line. My personal choices if I got to pick subclasses not in the game would be: Bard: Eloquence Barbarian: Wild Magic Cleric: Grave Domain (my beloved) or goddamn Twilight because thats what Shadowheart SHOULD have been. Druid: Wildfire Paladin: Conquest. (They probably didn't want it because oathbreaker is already the "evil," option) Fighter: Rune Knight Monk: Mercy (Drunken Master is probably the better choice but I love Mercy too much to not say it) Ranger: Drakewarden Rogue: Swashbuckler is the best choice, yeah. Sorcerer: Shadow is again the best choice. Warlock: Hexblade is going to break the game right open. So i would have gone with Celestial. Wizard: War Magic

awesome. I hope they also add new items to work with the new subclasses.
@yat28227 күн бұрын
I've beat the game 4 times, and I've not found there to be a lot of replay value in the game beyond a certain point. Mods are usually so buggy that they break immersion, and the story doesn't actually branch that much. New subclasses rarely make it worth another playthrough, since they all still use the same spells.

This is one of the MANY reasons Larian has so much support and love. Their games are complete, simple as that. Then they go and add in tons of extras for the low low price of FREE. Mean while we have money grabbers asking up to like $90 for STALKER 2 which is best described as an unfinished/ concept for a game. Nothing is fully fleshed out, very generic writing, missions, assests etc. Miss the days of paying for a game and getting a full game.
