I'm super disappointed that the form factor is basically exactly the same. Since the Switch was launched, we have had a million different PC handhelds come to market, which made a lot of advancements in the comfortability of holding these devices for hours on end. Hopefully some aftermarket joycons come out that allow me to wrap my palms around them like VR controllers or controller handles.

Personally I’m absolutely fine with the iterative approach. I love my switch, i just want it bigger and more powerful. I’m also fine with the dark mode styling, I’m a 32 year old dude, I don’t want the device I’m using to look like a toy. I’m hoping for customisable themes and layouts. I’m less fine with it probably not being OLED, it’s so hard to go back. I’m also worried about the connector chips in the side of the main device, those look so easily breakable.

It’s crazy that Mario Kart is the system opener but it’s true. That game you pick it up the whole family can play, you most likely have played 1 of the games in your life and Mario and his cast is pretty well known in pop culture. Really hoping they add some stuff to reinvent the game, an open worldish career mode. Maybe more depth for your car. Some more characters from other franchises also would be awesome, a create a track feature would be awesome. Maybe some method of a more in depth battle vs system, you can craft or customize weapons, alter your kart to be faster or more durable or something else all along with having the traditional pick up and place Mario cup with 4 tracks going head to head with friends.

I watched the trailer and my first thought was what is different between the Switch 1 and the Switch 2 because the trailer does not make it readily apparent what the difference is. Okay the joy-cons are bigger and attach in a different way, and the Switch 2 is bigger, something only made apparent by the side by side comparison of the consoles. The problem is that just because something is bigger, does not mean that it is a worthwhile purchase. People don’t buy new phones every year just because they get bigger, they buy a new one when their phone becomes obsolete due to years of use. The way that Nintendo is going to make the Switch 2 a worthwhile purchase is just restricting new games from coming out on the Switch 1. PlayStation and Xbox due this and they are rightfully dragged through the dirt, yet Nintendo is going to do the same thing and there will be no significant backlash to it. Nintendo prided themselves for only creating a new consoles that were unlike anything that came before, but the Switch 2 is them creating a console that is like their last one, just bigger.

How much heavier is it? How strong are the magnets the connect the joicons? Playing a fast paced game, mine would disconnect, even with the rails they just move along them and the game pauses killing the momentum, but my switch is old so who knows. My concern is I get playing and since there's no rail to guide the joicon when it inevitably disconnects from the switch, the weight of the switch will cause it to disconnect from the other and then plummets to the ground.

I think it was a great reveal. I like the visual aesthetics, the ergonomics and the materials look more premium. Day 1 buy for me provided there are no early technical problems to suggest that I shouldn't buy at launch. The lack of colour really doesn't matter much to me. If they add an achievements system I'll be using Switch 2 more often than I did the original Switch.

Some commentors are gonna miss the point of Switch2, you're judging downstream from the prism of specs. The selling point of this is 1) hybrid 2) joycon control scheme 3) 1st party games. Even if Nintendo were to port games onto other handhelds, a lot wouldn't work. While some conventional games can work just fine, a huge % of their games are designed to utilize the motion features of the joycons/

I wonder if the Switch 2 will actually be able to play its own first party games at a decent frame rate and stability… I’m not even talking about 60 fps (though that would be brilliant), but the switch couldn’t even hit 30fps on its headline games! If they can get a stable 40fps then that’s all that’s needed. Just enough to make it feel much smoother.

It'll be interesting to see how the leaks affect the Switch 2, but I still think It'll be close to hitting the same sales if not more than the OG Switch. We already have more info about the system and games because of the leaks than what they "teased" today, and they still had the gall to try to tease us with an April Nintendo Direct date assuming like we don't already know some of this info. Nintendo messed up bigtime in their pipeline by even letting this info get out there in the first place. It's unheard of except for the Xbox leaks because of a lawsuit. If the leaks hurt the sales of a really good portable Nintendo system, it's at least partially their fault. They could have jumped in front of this months ago.

We (as a family) bought a switch when it was the only portable console on the market. We think about replacing it right now. It probably will be a Steamdeck. Yeah we loose out of Nintendo originals but tbh out of those we tried only mariocart really stuck by us. And the fact that Nintendo asks us to pay THEM for OUR internet is infuriating. So probably no Switch 2 for us but a Steamdeck.
