Thanks for watching Michael. As for which wrist to wear your dive watch / computer - right handed people generally wear the computer on the left wrist so as to be able to operate the functions easily...lefties wear it on the right wrist! Also the monitoring of our ascent was not done visually but by audible alarms..... we generally dive in UK waters and the viz is sometimes zero :-)

on numbeer nine and 10, i was told by my instructor to never spit out your regulator, before you got the alternative air source in your hand. just mentioning it ;)
@MrMickytrueblue8 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, what is the point of keeping a reg in your mouth if you are out of air. Study the 2 videos again and you will see that after signalling to his buddy, the reg comes out and the out of air diver uses both hands to A - secure the AAS and use it B - secure himself onto his buddy
@edwardlyden79028 жыл бұрын

@pnodi55848 жыл бұрын
Mickytrueblue late response, but the theory is, that in an emergancy with no air, it's better to suck on the regulator instead, incase you in an panicish state in real scenario, don't suck in water when/if the breathing reflex kicks in. and the second reson, may be in the case if the person supplying the octopus, for some reason don't react. can't pull out is regulator or other reasons, then having to do an emergency accention, or the person needing air panics and goes for the surface. You will then have the option to get some air from your bottle as you ascend towards the surface, as the surrounding pressure decreases and "releases" 1 bar or 2 on your way up depending on the depth you are.
@martinorech3917 жыл бұрын
Pnodi perfectly explained. but even more... it's a SIMULATION... why make it dangerous for nothing? it's like to make a CESA without reg (like some associations made back in the days)... in case you're doing it wrong should you panic? the answer is NO. you will just retry.
@pnodi55847 жыл бұрын
1. Martino, i don't see how during the simulation keeping the regulator that is not out of air. but you pretend is, in you mouth makes it dangerous? i may misinterpit your comment, but that is what i read as your criticism. 2.the scenario i described, that does not reflect a controlled situation in a pool where you practice skills. i put that into a real situation instead, where a person actually does panic, it is better to train to always have the regulator in your mouth, as it then has a higher chance i you or your students do a paniced emergency ascend, they get that 1-2 bars to breathe on on their way up, instead of nothing. It's Not always your buddy is staring you in the face ready to give you air on second notice, and in a real situation ,the person, who might be fresh to diving don't know they actually are out of air. or their valve malfunctions and they suddenly get no air as the valve (not regulatorr) is jammed. That has happened to my neighboor twice during his 20+ years if diving, he dives with an emergency pony bottle as a extra precaution. Point is. if you train with a real situation in mind. you might have a better chance of dealing with the real situation. The video i am sure is 100% after padi-standards and maybe after other organisations aswell. But am i wrong in what i am saying?

Diving has always been a dream of mine. I am 15, and a bit over weight but I have been losing weight quite rapidly (which I wanted to do before beginning to scuba dive). Friends of mine say you have to swim like 20 laps in an Olympic sized pool - is this true? Sorry if I missed something in the video. Thanks! :-)
@AdminDennisNedry9 жыл бұрын
+Juliet Alpha Kilo Echo I just did it. The swim is 200 yards. I'm a horrible swimmer, but there is no time limit. So, i just laid on my back and relaxed. Slowly swam the 200 yard. Just made sure i was breathing deeply and continuously. Same goes for the 10 minutes of treading water. Just breath deep and relax. let the breath out slowly and tread the water.
@TheAyersh19 жыл бұрын
+Juliet Alpha Kilo Echo First Congratulations!!!! Sounds like you are doing an amazing job keep up the good work. As for the swimming thing, according to PADI (one of several associations you can earn certification from) says: Some swimming ability is required. You need to have basic swim skills and be able to comfortably maintain yourself in the water. Your PADI Instructor will assess this by having you: Swim 200 metres/yards (or 300 metres/yards in mask, fins and snorkel). There is no time limit for this, and you may use any swimming strokes you want.Float and tread water for 10 minutes, again using any methods you want.Being a good strong swimmer will only help you. The most dangerous thing you can do as a diver is panic (that includes breath holding...you'll learn more about that later). Having confidence in your swimming abilities will make you a safer diver Take your time. Although amazing, SCUBA, at first, is awkward. The equipment is heavy and you need to be able to carry it to your dive site. Although I'm certified I'm working on building my strength and swimming stamina so I can continue with more ease. Keep up the good work! Scuba is so worth the extra time and focus.
@flyingscalpel79 жыл бұрын
Meghan W AdminDennisNedry Thanks for that you guys! I am continuing to lose weight, slowly but surely. As I exercise more and more and swim more and more I am becoming more confident and very excited to start my training. Thanks much! :)

Go for it! You can definitely do it - depending on where you do your certification the size of the pool may vary, but you do have to swim a good bit as well as tread water for 10 minutes without touching the sides or bottom of the pool, so if you can do those you can definitely do it! Congratulations on the weight loss, all the best!

@abigailv53475 жыл бұрын
byteme9718 why is padi useless
@byteme97185 жыл бұрын
@@abigailv5347 PADI sell courses through local providers for which they take a hefty fee for doing nothing. How the local providers teach and award certification is not something they have much interest in. The basic PADI Open Water qualification requires students to read and understand a 250 page book, complete multiple choice tests and learn multiple skills which they then have to demonstrate over four qualifying dives in an open water environment. Many providers do this in two days from scratch which is of course impossible to do properly. Many PADI qualified divers will have learned like this on short courses they took on holiday. The better providers extend this to four days but even then it's a huge amount to take in but strangely, very few people fail. That would be bad for business. In theory Open Water allows you to dive independently but in practice that hardly ever happens and most holiday destination will have a dive guide who babysits rather than point out things his expert eyes see that others will not. PADI Open Water does not get much respect anywhere I.ve dived. Other organisations have far better training programs but require additional effort and therefore time. The UK for example has BSAC which is a club you pay to join where qualified members teach you over time instead of rushing. You also learn skills over and above any that PADI teach at any level. Because it is a club members often sell equipment that allows you to get started for very little money. The best part though is that members maintain their skills through organised dives wheras after a PADI course finishes that's it until your next holiday where you'll probably fogotten the basics. PADI is OK if all you want to do is very basic diving but there are better alternatives.
@abigailv53475 жыл бұрын
byteme9718 thanks for the detailed explanation. I’m looking into a course where I can get certified to do dives with a friend. I want to learn enough to be safe and possibility. Don’t know where to start.
@byteme97185 жыл бұрын
@@abigailv5347 Do a search for local dive clubs that can teach but is yourr only option is a PADI course then try and find one that is taught over a greater period of time and buy and read the relevant PADI book before you start. When you say "dives with a friend" are you taking but on you own because if that's the case your friend should have a good deal of experience. Two newly qualified divers on their own is not a good conbination. Some simple dives with a divemaster should be OK though.
