Oh Hi Mark! I've been binge watching your videos and am interested in trying out some of your diy projects. For this floating avatar scape, which material do you think works best in terms of floating duration, meaning they never sink, and also safety of the fishes and shrimps in the tank ( neon tetras, killi fish and possibly some small shrimps in the future). I'm not sure if these materials are harmful or would disintegrate or leach toxic products into the tank. 1. Wooden arts and craft balls 2. Styrofoam 3. Packing sponge used in boxes when you buy a new product. 4. Ping pong balls Not sure if expanding foam would float but if it does, would it be a good candidate especially since you could mould and shape the expanding foam into some irregular shapes.

I just found your channel. Subbed! I love this project and the more recent one with the walnut shells. I think I'm going to make a mine field for my Betta. I might do some slabs, as well as balls. I was thinking that it might be better (and maybe quicker) to mechanically attach the line to the foam before gluing on the moss. And I'm also thinking about tying off to a structure that I place under my substrate. Obviously, you wouldn't want to rip up an established tank to do that, but I'm redoing his tank now and can install from the beginning. Thanks for the great ideas!

Does the moss on the half below the ball survive as it doesn’t receive any light?

This is a great idea. I have some plain white styrofoam balls that my son have left over from us making a school project. could those be used or is there any specific type that has to be used?

Is is okay to use rainforest moss? I live in the Pacific Northwest of the USA. Thanks, Mark!!
@MARKSAQUATICS3 жыл бұрын
Rainforest moss will most probably die if kept submerged. Java moss is the best and can be purchased online. Thanks for watching.

Hi Mark I was wondering if you could please help me out I've had a go at doing the floating moss but got no stones. But like yourself I used to do lake fishing and have quite a few weight left. Can you please let me know if they are safe to use in the aquarium Anita xx
@MARKSAQUATICS7 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita. No don't put fishing weights in your aquarium as lead is toxic. You could use a piece of drift wood if you haven't got any stones. You can get a piece of stone from your lfs.

You could make a chain of them! My java moss is growing well!
@MARKSAQUATICS7 жыл бұрын
Good idea. you could tie them at different heights along a piece of drift wood.

Hi Mark, nice DIY projects. Just a question, does the moss grow without roots?
@MARKSAQUATICS7 жыл бұрын
Hi Deanne. Moss has very tiny roots, if you can imagine how ivy grows up and covers trees its just the same on a tiny scale.👍😀

Is there any certain kind of hot glue you use that is non toxic?
@MARKSAQUATICS6 жыл бұрын
Most clear hot glue is safe to use. I stay away from coloured types.

MARK'S AQUATICS also my rocks keep disconnecting from the fishing line? How long do you let the glue dry for?

MARK'S AQUATICS the hot glue gun
@MARKSAQUATICS7 жыл бұрын
If you can find a small crack in the stone push the line into that first and then glue it down. Let it go cold before putting in the tank ok.
