Marimo moss balls are super easy green decorations to keep in your aquarium. Have you ever used them in your scape?

I just bought some a few weeks ago and I'm loving them! My corydoras love snuffling through them and I love the rich dark green colour they add to my tank!

Can I use they for an outdoor pond? Also a suggestion, maybe you can hang them in your tank using invisible string so it looks like it is floating mid-air

That's excellent! And there I was thinking they were pesky things that start looking gross at the bottom of the tank after a while! I think I even threw some out! Ouch!! 😂😂

I am watching the popular aquascaping channels - at least I’m trying, but yours is simply fantastic - very natural and very practical! Big ❤ Now regarding the marimo I found they are great to put on top of some fancy stone structures - for example imagine Iwagumi but inspired by Iceland nature - I think it can be very stylish shrimp tank for example.

Yes, I was thinking about something like that. Now, since you mentioned it - I need to try :P Thank you for commenting!

Will the marimo that you glued to the shrimp house continue to grow?
@AquascapingCube5 ай бұрын
Yes, they will keep growing. But it will be a very slow process and shape of the house should not change.

Have you ever experienced your Marimos being infested with Cladophora? Even in your video you can detect some Clado threads, look at about 4'04" and 6'45". Yes, I have once clued Aegagropila to mangrove wood. It looked interesting at first but Clado alga developed after some months of healthy growth and closer to the light Marimo turned whitish also which I didn't have a clue as to why this happened. Do you? I assumed that I should not have added liquid carbon as Glutaraldehyd. Being a disinfectant and algae killer it might have harmed Marimo as well.

is cladophora bad?
@detlefh.7090 Жыл бұрын
@@scottrobert2724 As long as you consider an algae infested tank bad then yes it is. Clado is one of the toughest alga to get rid of.
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Clado is very annoying and can ruin your tank when it attacks. But Cladophora contains many species and even Marimo was considered to be a type of Clado algae. I think it was changed to Aegagropila only recently (not 100% sure) But I never had any issues with unwanted Clado myself, my Marimos are doing quite well and there is no algae spreading anywhere.
@detlefh.7090 Жыл бұрын
@@AquascapingCube The time stamps I mentioned don't display Clado? Did you check? I might have misinterpreted long Marimo threads as something worse. At least in my tanks any Clado infestation started exactly like that. I wish good luck to your aquariums always being free of Clado.

Hi, friend! Again a very good and very interesting video, I learned many interesting things and I think you gave me an idea In one of my blackwater Amazon style aquariums, I have a group of Ottocinclus. For some time now, because the aquarium is 2 years old and has stabilized a lot, the algae are practically non-existent in this aquarium, and I am worried that the small group of Ottocinclus is beginning to suffer the consequences of the lack of its main food , I mean the Algae. Perhaps it would be a good idea to add some Aegagropila balls there or even cover a stone or log with Aegagropila. Do you have any experience in your aquariums about this (Ottocinclus& Aegagropila)? In any case, I want to buy a few Aegagropila balls for my Nano Cubes with Prawns, and the advice you gave us in your video will be very good for me 👍 A big hug from Germany 👋🏻
@detlefh.7090 Жыл бұрын
Look and watch here how to keep Otocinclus alive and (no, not jumping rather) happy and healthy. It's a misconception to believe Otos need algae to graze on and that's all they need. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3PYaqmwi96dock&si=rHFzvhAqTxq8wuGz
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Of course you can add Marimo, but only as a decoration because Otos will not eat this type of algae. If you are not feeding them directly - you should start. Otos are eating algae - but not ONLY algae. They really like vegetables, plant based foods, biofilm, algae wafers etc. You should feed them just like any other fish that likes plants :) Thank you for commenting - It's great to hear from you! All the best!
