Heard this song when I was young in the '80's, already loved the song and the tune then but could not make out most of the words. One of the greatest songs of the 80’s ! For us Aussies of Greek background, this song celebrated our language on a world stage. Kyrie eleison is Greek for ‘Lord have mercy’ ! "Kyrie Eleison" is Greek for "Lord, have mercy." It is used as a prayer in both Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox services. Greek was the original language of the New Testament, which was later translated to Latin. This song is credited to lead singer Richard Page, keyboardist Steve George and lyricist John Lang.
@woodshed_moments Жыл бұрын
The roots of "Kyrie Eleison" you say are not entirely accurate, not to be confused with anything Catholic or even its coptic tributaries, because they didn't happen until after the 3rd century AD, where is it is true it was a common expression amongst the churches in Asia Minor [that of course would include Greece and Turkey] it has a sad history rooted in the martyrdom of those early Church saints.

Mr. Mister - Kyrie Lyrics: Kyrie Eleison Kyrie Eleison Kyrie The wind blows hard against this mountainside Across the sea into my soul It reaches into where I cannot hide Setting my feet upon the road My heart is old, it holds my memories My body burns a gem-like flame Somewhere between the soul and soft machine Is where I find myself again Kyrie Eleison down the road that I must travel Kyrie Eleison through the darkness of the night Kyrie Eleison where I'm going, will you follow? Kyrie Eleison on a highway in the night When I was young, I thought of growing old Of what my life would mean to me Would I have followed down my chosen road Or only wished what I could be? When I was a kid I didn't even know that it said "Kyrie Eleison" as in the Kyrie. Also Mr Mister make awesome tunes like this one Fantasy, immoral, imaginary, inhuman, hateful, mafia boss, sky daddy and Co, don't. They insight hatred in many and indoctrination in others. So I think we can leave the fact that some words in this incredibly powerful and stunning song, happen to also be in that ridiculous and horrific, hateful, disgusting book of utter drivel, as nothing more than they sounded good, which they did and that they then made the song sound incredible. Other than that, so what about "god"? PROVE he exists first and just maybe we can discuss this more. Until then... STFU. Thank you.

The song gives me the strength to remember that God is always with us, regardless of where we are regards to what we do regardless of what we have done and where we May God, protect and bless all of us, and made this song stand as a one heck of a reminder of how powerful love, kindness, tenderness, strengths, all matter, weakness, crime, and everything else that is nasty be damned, because now as long as we are together as long as we can pull together as long as we are strong, we will pull out of the swamp, and this song reminds me so much of that that we can do it if we allow him to help us God bless

This song reminds me of my father who battled cancer for 12 years. It got the best of him, and he passed away on June 21, 2016. To keep him and my family going all those years were songs like these.

Thank-you. It's been really hard without him. He was too young, and it was too soon.

The Lion and his lamb Each time a person does a kind deed to her, she has somehow met God. She had a good father; he may not be God, but he's a representation of Her/His goodness.

"Kyrie Eleison" is a Greek phrase that means "Lord, have mercy." It is used in Christian liturgy as a prayer for mercy. The song "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister references this phrase in its chorus.

Hosanna.. Aramaic meaning save, rescue, savior. Cry out to the Lord Jesus. He is King. See Psalm 22. Isaiah 53. Praise God.

"Kyrie" is one of those 80's songs that has that special definitive sound that seems to bring back the nostalgia stronger than some other 80's songs. Even more so than Mr. Mister's more commonly played "Broken Wings". The nostalgia from "Kyrie" hits me right from the opening notes and throughout.

Throughout my youth, I've always considered this song to be moving and powerful. But when I learned what the chorus actually meant...the entire song rose to a whole new level...and now my eyes tear up every time I hear it...realizing that soaring voice in the opening is crying out to the Lord. Lord have mercy indeed...how we need more music like THIS and less of the depraved, Satanic trash that passes for music these days. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this timeless classic!
