Several years back and urgent care insisted they irrigate and I said no, I ALWAYS have issues, they said they would use peroxide and warm water and it would be "fine". I warned them off the last time I had it done my ear drum ruptured; they promised it was because it was previously done wrong. 😑 2 minutes in, ear drum is ruptured. Less than 24 hours later I had a RAGING inner AND outer ear infection that was so bad my neck was swollen. It took weeks of antibiotics to clear it all up. Never again.

I am astounded by your patience. Well done, sir. I had irrigation done on my ears about 35 years ago and it was one of the most unpleasant and painful experiences ever. They used what looked like a water pik and kept hitting, what felt like, my eardrum. Never again.

I have had work done on blocked ears three times in last 20 years. Once was with a hook, which felt uncomfortable at times; once was with suction which was loud and painful; and once with irrigation, which was the least unpleasant of the three.

It is amazingly entertaining to see him finally succeed. He’s like a quarterback steadily moving down the field and then takes it into the end zone. I had common ear aches all through my childhood until as a young man a GP flushed a plug out of my ear with water, and I’ve never suffered any problems since. So my joy in seeing him treat his patients is understandable.

I don't have issues using cotton swabs it gets the water out from a shower but I don't produce much wax. I also have an endoscope and just get a bit of dry skin in my ears occasionally. I love watching these.

As a patient that has undergone chemo and radiation for sinus cancer, I have osteonecrosis in my sinus, inner ear and skull. I suffer multiple ear infections and sinus infections and need intravenous antibiotics almost yearly. I can only imagine the relief this type of debridement gives them. I would be ecstatic if I could have my hearing restored to normal. Well done!

Hi Neel. Very gentle removal and very professional. Interesting that you spoke about irrigation. Quite recently I hear other audiologists performing irrigation and to my knowledge they didn’t before. How has this method turned around and it forms part of the repertoire now. There must have been a medical paper out recently on the advantages v disadvantages using irrigation. I've been diagnosed with eczema in both ears. My ear wax is a clear liquid that runs out and bugs me so much. My doctor told me to use a q-tip to put some ointment in both when they are really itchy. I know for a fact that I have nice light pink ear canals and I have zero wax build up after looking with my own endoscope.

As a viewer, I find the St Bart's Hook removals more interesting than the Cawthorne hook or rosen inserter ones. However, you know what tools are best for the job and when the hook just doesn't... work.

Would it be possible to create a solution of something like chlorhexidine and acetic acid to flush the ear with irrigation? If the solution were the correct pH, isotonic, and anti microbial it should address the problems associated with standard irrigation, especially if the ear could be subsequently dried (possibly with warm air?)

I'm curious, what size Cawthorne hook was that? It looked very different to the Cawthorne hook I remember seeing Conor use - iirc, that was more like a tiny steel St Bart's hook. I also remember Rhys and Taylor saying that the Rosen Inserters they got from their current supplier feel longer and more flexible than the ones they had in the past, and they don't like them as much because of it. I still can't wait to see the new tools. :)

Hi Mr Neel, I love your work. Thank you very much for all your videos. I know that cotton swabs are a no no, but what are your thoughts on ear picks? (Google Asian Bamboo Ear Cleaner). It looks like your tools but with a scoop at the end. I have dry ear wax and use it and my ENT has commented that my ears are always very clean. The only downside is that very occasionally I get ear infections. What are your professional thoughts on those? I never venture past the bony part of the ear, of course.

I keep feeling (hearing?) like ive got water in my ear Especially the right side! Experiencing tinnitus and then my hearing goes all muffled and itll last for a bit then goes away im wondering if ive got a ton of wax since watching your videos 😅😫🤣 i was supposed to see the ENT tmrw but unable to get down to the appointment so ive gotta go friday and aint able to see the Dr now i see his assistant they said they may not be able to do much at that appt but at least take a look. Ive also been getting this awful pain like someone jams an ice pick into my ear drum then it radiates all around the cartilage of my ear, down into my neck/lymph node and along my jaw ugh hoping i can get an answer to what the hell is causing it. Its the worst sharpest pain and it lasts about 20 min then stops as quick as it starts but its sooooo painful not sure if its a nerve issue or what
