When I went through OCS (PLC) Program we had a guy who was a long distance track star . The 3rd day of being screwed with we were hitting the rack to get the few hours sleep we were allotted . The guy was in his running gear . I said where you going bro ? He said just going for a run .. I said “ ok have a good run . Well , he ran 50 miles home off the base . Next day , rumors spread .. but I knew the real deal as I was the last person to see him . I guess he really didn’t want to be there 😂

I dropped out of seminary and enlisted in the Marine Corps in order to pursue becoming a pilot. Won my Gold Wings and flew for 25 years in a mix of active duty and reserve units. Endless appreciation for all the pilots and flight crews with whom I served over the years in a total of four countries and two ships. (I signed an aviation contract and went through straight OCS at Quantico, no PLC; no ROTC.) One wrinkle: The need for pilots was so great when I was commissioned that I was ordered straight to flight school thus avoiding TBS. Of course I was eager escape Quantico for the beaches of Pensacola and start flight school but the omission of TBS negatively affected my overall value to the Marine Corps. S/F

Marine OCS is an interview and evaluation of leadership potential not training. ROTC covers the basics before you start day 1 of ROTC OCS (aka bulldog)... 1 condensed 6 weeks. PLC junior makes up for those basics in 6 weeks. PLC senior essentially replicates bulldog. PLC is for college students without ROTC programs. OCC is 10 weeks cram it all in at once straight through for no experience college completed grads. Boot camp pushes you... OCS you have to push yourself or quit. The instructors will be telling.... You probably should quit and go home....or you don't deserve or belong leading good Marines. ...in the end officers need to have internal drive along with intelligence under stress, physical capacity, and responsible integrity. ...some turds still slip through.

@@TheBlackwoods. If you have a college degree, do not enlist. Talk to an OSO. Assuming you have your degree the process of getting to OCS can be relatively quick, not years. Prior enlisted 03 Marine turned Mustang officer in the combat arms. The question you have to ask yourself is what kind of career do you want. FWIW. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything, but if I had to again...maybe I wouldn't have went the same way. I love my USMC heritage, but I remember the most enjoyable experiences were being operational, and that time is extremely limited in a line platoon before you go off to staff. Try to pick the brain of officers if you can especially Mustangs. Lots of Mustangs on the /r USMC forum, with opinions that may differ from mine, helps to get different perspectives even from non Mustangs. Also many of my enlisted Marines have went on to have very successful post military careers, and had higher education levels then when I was in so YMMV.
@williamsmith87902 жыл бұрын
If you have college go the PLC/OCS route. I find it quicker than trying to go enlisted and then MECEPing in. You have to leave it up to a board with MECEP, or even a salty 1stSgt that might think you are a $hit-bird and not positively endorse your package. With the OCS route if the OSO has to make quota, you can run, and don’t have 15 drug waivers you should be in. Try to be a pilot, they always have seats for them.

@Medevicerep2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they can be brutal. Officers need to be able to evaluate the leadership capabilities of the NCO's they will be leading so they need to learn how to be objective by evaluating their own peers. Sure, some of them will be petty but the platoon staff will evaluate all of the reviews and match them to their own view of the candidate to balance it out.

No, Mustang officer here. For officers you have to have US citizenship alone, as it should be, IMHO. All my friends and fellow officers who had dual citizenship, with first world allied countries like the UK has to give it up prior to accepting a commission. Clearance levels can be restricted for a variety of reasons but you have to be eligible for at least secret for most officer jobs, but many duties and other jobs require higher clearances which may put you under intense scrutiny depending on the country you have ties to, family members and lifestyle, and background.
