Another thought: The products are so complex now, that my easy guess is almost nobody uses their products like Smartphone, Camera, 3D-Printer, Stream Deck, Tablet, etc. etc. to its full potential. Example: Tutorials about less known feature in Smartphone Operating Systems are very popular and have a lot of viewers. Or Tutorials how to change settings in a Camera or the like. All those things are so full of features, most people don’t even know them all.

You’re absolutely right, sensor size makes more of a difference in quality smartphone pics(especially in low light) than the number of mega pixels. Some youtubers get that, but most don’t. I know the laws of physics currently prevent smartphones from getting sensors the size of FF, Crop or even micro 4/3rd mirrorless cameras… but perhaps technologies in the future will. 🤷‍♂️ Until then, most iphone camera updates will be slight improvements over the prior year’s cameras. But still, it is amazing how far smartphone cameras have come!

I personally think 1 inch sensors are the sweet spot in regards of sensor sizes. At least for the main camera. And have the current sensor sizes be used for the telephoto and ultra wide lenses. Those can definitely use a size bump.

I don't think that Apple says that you must upgrade every year, but pretty much all the marketing has been as to "this iPhone is the best iPhone we have ever built" or something like that. It's like cars, some people change cars often, some take longer to upgrade.

While I enjoy using my iPhone for casual shooting and video taking, it’ll never replace my DSLR as my main shooter for more “serious” photography. The sensor size difference alone makes that a no-brainer for me. And I have other, more niche cameras for fun shooting, like an old ranger finder, Polaroid etc. My iPhone is a wonderful point and shoot, though, and is the camera that I always have on me. It’s just that my big cameras are still very much in another league.

I’m a bit fed up of a lot reviewers talking about iPhone, Pixel or Galaxy phones being incremental upgrades and not worth upgrading when data shows the global average of having Phone is 3.5-4 years. Pretty much every major flagship phone this year is worth upgrading if you have a 3/4 year old phone. I’m upgrading to a iPhone 16 Pro from an iPhone 12 and my wife from her iPhone 11. Like you said this is not worth upgrading if you have an iPhone 15 and even an iPhone 14 for me unless you a part of the less than 3% of people that upgrade every year.

Another thing to consider when debating between a phone and a dedicated camera is that if you upgrade your phone often enough, you can simply choose not to trade in your old phone and use it as a dedicated camera too. I've seen a few KZbinrs who film with 1-3 iPhones, and they just keep their old ones and integrate them into their own set-up. As for using a phone as a teleprompter or keeping notes. A laptop or iPad helps for that too. --- I personally think a big-boy camera is only worth getting if you're already a big fan of photography and you're looking to upgrade something you're already doing. Like you need the upgrade to bring your current work to the next level. Othewise I would never recommend someone just buy a big-boy camera as part of a start-up kit. -- Another random advantage for an iPhone if you don't trade in the old one. If you take two phones travelling. Your daily driver and a back-up camera phone. If your daily driver gets lost, stolen, or broken and you're in a foreign country, you can use your hotel wifi to upload your backup to your older phone and that way you'll still have access to your Apple wallet and anything else you needed digitally. But if you're rich, you can just buy a new phone at your travel destination too. But Apple phones tend to be much overpriced outside of America.

I have a Canon R5, and I still took my iPhone 14 ProMax out for travelling. I love my big-boy camera, but it's just not fun to travel with. It's really heavy, and there's all that extra worry about theft. I'm just trying to collect memories. I'm not filming a movie, lol. I do keep my R5 at home for product photography and I think it's a great studio camera or filming things around my city. But if I have to get on an airplane, I'm taking a cellphone.

Bigger Sensors, YES! I was so excited to hear the ultra wide got 48 mp, but the sensor that helps that lens/camera is not improved, thus giving very little enhancements in video. My channel is focused on national parks, hiking and camping. It’s my main lens. This does not give that added bit I was really hoping for, that the main lens with it’s sensor does, to shoot better wide angle, cinematic videos. 😢

Instead of IMX 803 they should use IMX 903 and add adaptive aperture for main camera. For other two they should use bigger sensors 1/1.3 and update glass. I have iPhone 14 Pro,and usually I use phone for at least 5 years.

About the camera control, we need to wait for the future software updates to enable the half press to hold focus and it all makes sense. I use it mostly to quickly adjust the exposure. Before that, I have to tap the screen and swipe up and down to adjust the exposure. Now I can do it quickly using the camera control.

Re digital cameras: Don't forget that older models of both cameras and lenses are mostly still awesome performers. And the market for pre-owned older cameras and lenses is well worth looking into. Digital camera updates don't follow the hectic schedule of smartphones, lenses even less so. Learn photography, don't let programmers decide for you how actual reality should look like. Even iPhone's ProRAW is computationally manipulated.

I'm not a photographer, but I think that the difference between using any smartphone vs any mirrorless or DSLR is not just image (or video) quality, I think that the gap in any scenario might shorten over time, but in the flexibility each system offers. I don't know why (unless for economic reasons) you must choose only one. The smartphone will be available on the go, and you could probably take your phone from the pocket and capture something within 15 seconds, while it would take longer if you need to remove your mirrorless from the backpack. However, having different lenses, flashes and other equipment will have other benefits, I think. Price wise, I think that any smartphone will be cheaper than going to a profesional camera if you consider lenses and other stuff. However, it's good to know where each system is better, and not looking at choosins as a versus, but as to when one is better suited than the other.

I have an IPhone 12 Pro and have been trying to hold out for a worthwhile upgrade. The battery is getting is to the point of unusable. I won’t be able to use the camera button< because of disability but use a high end Nikon DSLR easily. I kind of like to have the latest gear but is this worth the extra $ over the 15 Pro.

Something worth mentioning is, the new button on the iphone was made for intended (horizontal shooting) , just by placement it should be understood. Idk why people are trying to use it in a way its not intended lol. But from watching alot of reviews I now think I understand why Apple is kinda afraid to innovate and try new or weird things whether on how the phone is shaped, how things are placed etc, because everytime they do they get backlash for it. Also something to note, nobody doing "pro-like" work with the iphone to shoot videos is ever using the camera app, they use other apps from the appstore and apple stated that developers would be able to use the button. So lets see how it goes. Btw , not saying people should complain eh, thats how things improve. I just said what I said as somethings to keep in mind.

The camera button is intended for both horizontal and vertical use, hence Apple’s own marketing showcasing both orientations utilizing the button. The camera button just isn’t in the most optimal nor comfortable place for a lot of people, it is what it is with this current model year. I also don’t see a trillion dollar company being, “afraid” to innovate and try new things, because they could possibly receive backlash. Such has never stopped them before. Apple are simply slow to implement certain ideas into their own products, waiting to see how well those features will be accepted, or waiting until something is mature enough to spring on it. Has nothing to do with the fear of innovation.

thanks for showing the microphone difference as I have not found a video to show the difference, I dont care about the built-in processing since I can use auphonic, so it seems that the microphone quality is just the same but apple just added some audio enhancement from the software side to make it better right? Besides, one reason possible for the 16 is the better battery life I guess? but now that the iphone 15 pro is much cheaper, I am not sure. since if I am gonna record a whole video podcast I will bring my powerbank anyway.

Or would the differences be negligible?( I don’t use zoom & don’t mind post processing in lightroom) I’ve checked the iPhone 15 pro vs 13 pro and theirs no noticeable difference in the main sensor ; although 15 pro is 48 megapixel the 13 pro has f1.5 apeture which is better than 15 pro’s f1.8 . I only use the main sensor so pls share your thoughts I don’t want to waste money

Samsung has the best sale worthy photography that can pick up subtle nuances like mist even in low light.

I love the camera button it sits on the right place and is great to use with one hand if you use like me the Torras case. so great for shooting with only one hand free. It’s a pro phone it’s not for everyone and if you go with the 1TB you have enough space todo a 90 min ProRes shot. Or you should get the Smalrig mobile filmmaker kit and use the build in nano ssd with it. Kameras are nearly the same as my 15pro but they were already good I don’t complain, for me the 4K/120 made me buy this beast.

I was let down that the iPhone come with Manuel mode. ISO shutter aperture. Android has had that few years. Sad the brand like apples are raising so heavy on their camera. Features can’t create a full manual mode in their phone camera setting.

I got a 13 pro with a dji gimbal and use it mainly to shoot 4K family vacation videos post edited with iMovie + family events photos of course. Reading spec it’s worth it to upgrade to 16 pro theoretically (wide lens aligned in pixels with others, low light conditions improved) but not sure anymore after watching your video. Do you confirm please ?

10:41 those are tools, and your phones aren’t aimed to replace your phone any time soon. Any good videographers or filmmakers know those are tools and don’t fall in that cliche trap. They will use each tools or cameras at their best abilities. If you really want low light camera then go with a Sony FX3 and don’t complain about your phone sensor size! This is not educational if you think it was it’s just complaining comparing Apple to Oranges and get mad at both, in an attempt to sound impartial and knowledgeable!

I wasn’t going to buy the 16 Pro as there was little in improvements over my 15 Pro Max but on reflection, I decided it was worth going for, for one reason only (well, two if you count I have holiday money I didn’t spend on holiday) and that is… size. Size, I hear you say? Yes, size. I can now get an iPhone with the 120mm equivalent lens in the smaller iPhone 16 Pro and sell my iPhone 15 Pro Max as this iPhone is just too large. I only went for the Max to get the 120mm o to be able to downsize is worth it for me but another reason to change is down to this iPhone itself. I have never been happy with this iPhone as the signal reception is the worst I’ve even had on an iPhone and, there’s other issues that has left me total disappointed with it too. It’s been checked out by Apple, with diagnostics run which revealed no issues according to their tools… but I’m still not convinced. I can have two bars of 4G showing on the display but any call I get can be one sided where I can hear the caller, but they not. Overall, I have truly hated this iPhone (15 Pro Max) since almost day one so, in deciding to get the 16 Pro will give me a smaller iPhone (won’t jamb in my pockets and is easier to carry) without compromising on the cameras. PS I wasn’t impressed with the cameras especially the 120mm on the 15 Pro Max so any improvement no matter how minor will be welcomed. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Oh, and I won’t be using the camera control (button) as I see no point to it, I just hope it can be switched off.

6:48 why do KZbinrs like to complain about the size of ProRes Log on the iPhone, and often forget to mentioned (which is misleading) they are talking about the native app only? You want to shoot Apple Log in h.265? No problem use the right app for that and stop complaining about the file size! Have you ever seen Red user complain about the file size or the cost of the camera? Often only those who don’t need it complain about it! Those who need it will not complain or will find an alternative.

I wasn’t complaining about the file size. Just making sure people realize how big it is. I use it non stop and have said over and over again it’s my favorite feature on the phone. Just doing my part making sure people are aware

@@MrPaulXavier this is nothing new and same for more or less all smartphone’s except a few with 1 inch sensors. But computational photo and videos have shown giving better result as in Google Pixel Phones, Samsung or Apple which even using smaller sensor with very small pixel are still proving better performance. Adding bigger sensors again brings other challenges. And I’ll suppose this is one of the reason Apple is bringing this fusion sensor technology as one way to provide good video quality only in 4k which require only 12 mega pixel, than giving us 6K or 8k. And I’ll believe Apple had tried to do 4k oversampled from 6K or 8k and find out grouping pixel was providing better quality/performance/battery life/… ratio. My point is you guys should stop sticking to those standard talking point and try to consider what could led to such decisions instead of all time assuming Google, Samsung, Apple or other are just trying to full consumer with marketing jargon. Don’t get me wrong, I agree those marketing messaging are often misleading on purpose.

Apple can't win. If they gave us this touch sensitive, two stage button and then locked it to only open the camera, focus, snap photo and zoom then people would complain that they could have done more. This time they have done more and people are complaining that it's too much and it's confusing or hard to use. Well just use it to snap shots and adjust zoom and use the touch screen for everything else. I agree with you that they should give us ISO, expose etc but I wouldn't use it and I bet most people wouldn't. All I want is to be able to manually turn down the sharpening. That is my one gripe with my iPhone photos. They are too sharp. When I take a Pro RAW photo that over sharpening is gone and they look great but then my photos are 90mb. I want to be able to take HEIF 24 mp photos and have the sharpening toned back to like half of what it is by default.

I think the IOS18 is not on the phones yet. It is supposed to come out “later this year” . So….i am thinking some of the “features “ are not turned on yet! Watching other you tubes this is what I gathered. Maybe I am wrong? Not sure!

I upgraded for Apply 15Pro and only thing i'm happy is the video since I don't use my pro cameras for that. On the photo side is terrible, worse than my Iphone 11. Apple is going down if they don't gives the real pro photo camera settings.

About the first item: Why in would you fiddle around with holding the phone in 1 hand and try to press buttons. You can't hold the phone in 1 hand and press the screen either.
