Pete's style is very good for learning and teaching imho. Too many new guitarists start out trying to learn blues style solo guitar riffs and licks and never really become musical or inclusive and get disillusioned with not having any "range" to their playing.

It's all about the phrasing. Because Pete's phrasing is so musical, he could get away with (almost) playing any note, and as long as it moves to a good note, it will sound great. It's like Robben Ford... Most of what he plays is pentatonic, with some tasty diminished/altered scale thrown in. But it's his phrasing that makes it sublime. I put Pete and Robben in a similar category, which is a big compliment to both of them. If you listen to other well know KZbinrs, you will immediately hear the difference. It's all about the groove and the phrasing. It has to feel good to be good. Oh, and I forgot to mention... The tone! Lovely edge of breakup, neck tele pickup, a little reverb. Ah! Breaks up when hit hard but clean when less attack. Magnificent!
@alfgwahigain55445 жыл бұрын
Phrasing! We, as guitarists need to remember to take a break from note-slinging every once in a while. Pete has this down. His playing is top notch and melodic, but yeah - his phrasing is killer.

Yes Pete has a sprinkling of magic pixie dust over his soul for the guitar thats for sure and humble to boot. John Mayer recognizes it in Pete and told him so . therefore Mr Pete keep the fingers moving and tones free flowing. Heaven is watching .

Pete - thanks for this. That video with the new THR amps somehow was the first I learned of your backing tracks collections, and I loved that first jam over this track - so I ended up buying all four collections. To anyone who's interested, they are all great, excellent quality and the variety is fantastic. Lots of different keys, moods and feels to practice with. I just got a Vox Adio (which is a fantastic, fun practice amp - that I'm really impressed with) and they sound great streamed through that, also. I tend to think of things like you - major or minor pentatonic - and then I try to add in some of the "other" notes for flavor. My problem is that I struggle with sounding the same all the time. What I appreciate most about your playing is your melodicism and feel. I think that's a simple lesson that is easy to forget when we start grooving - melody and feel - and a "call & response" approach is handy when running out of ideas. This was a really great lesson and very helpful. Your playing is mesmerizing and just watching and listening to you teaches so much. Keep up the good work. You have been a fantastic addition to the Anderton's team.
