Canned heat is the most underappreciated blues band of that era IMO because of the hippie aspect. RIP Owl and Bear. The two tragic figures that sadly make them authentic bluesmen..

Had the Honour of being in a 3-Piece Rockabilly Band and opening for Mr. Hooker. Our 2nd gig out of the basement. His Agent phoned Q107 in Toronto where we were being highlighted (Twitch) on air. He heard us on the radio on the 401 HWY and pulled over to phone the station at a weigh booth (No cell phones) ... and told Bob Macowitz and Segarini that he HAD to have us open for John Lee at the Danforth in T.O. We were definitely a mis-match but played with one of my Hero's. QUIP: at the end of the night our guitarist extended his hand to Mr. Hooker to introduce himself. John Lee just said to him "Are youse the man with the Money? - to which Garwood answered no sir, we opened for you tonight - Hooker says "Best I go see the man with the money"

Blind Owl was one of the most underrated blues artists. His guitar licks were never flashy but always tasty. His harp was one of the best and his vocal style was unusual but strangely appropriate for the blues. He and John Lee doing Whiskey and Wimmen totally made the album.

This is my favorite blues track ever. It has been for 20 years, since I first heard it. It always will be. JLH's guitar and unmistakable vocals; fantastic accompanying blues harp; reptetitive and simple lyrics about fast living and regret, that don't seem TOO ashamed about it all. Perfect. It was recorded with a single raggedy assed amp in a dirty hotel room. That's the way it's supposed to be. Blues shouldn't be too prettied up.

One chord all the way through - no messing around. Often on John Lee's recordings chord changes would be made or implied by others, while JLH stuck with the tonic. We always thought of one chord songs as "hypnotics". Wolf, among others, often did that too. Love the feel of those grooves.

Great Blues and all good music tell a story with feeling. This song talked about being young and having fun with money and It slowly but not always catches up with you and you ain't makeing it no more. It catches up with you and you get behind on the money and your not so handsome anymore. If your smart you stay sweet to the good women or married one and the young and old good ones give you a hug and a kiss and leave your wallet alone.
