I know Bonnie was a fan, but just playing random "blues" notes is not really authentic without that deep, soulful feelings of the Black originators.😢

I m Over 70 now .Will still love JL Hooker and all the guys of that generation until my dying day who brought the blues to the UK from the USA when I was just a teenager . Bonnie Rait is one of many who were enormously influenced by them . Many of our top artists in the UK such as Eric Clapton John Mayall Jeff Beck The Rolling Stones The Animals even the Beatles owe them an enormous debt .

I was at this concert. First show of many John Lee Hooker shows...my friend and neighbor at the time Kevin Baker who worked in the mail room of capitol records got to hangout with JL Hooker and go to his house and long beach. Showed him all his memorabilia and was particulary proud of his pool...and his musical socks...he got his les paul signed by him...

This was great! We hear this man's music everywhere and all of the time! There's a bunch of rich people around today due to John Lee Hooker's music but, John Lee Hooker never saw any of that wealth. I have purchased music that I didn't realize was from this person. I have spent money that never went to this man! I !

chatty cathy : Not true. After he got with Mike Kappas, Mike made sure he got his due. Sure, the early years were full of cutthroats, but John Lee lived comfortably in his golden years. But then again, he never sold out. He did things his way. For him, it was always about the music rather than the money. But he made a ton of money along the way. Over a million dollars a year on the average. That's more than $3000 a day, every day. Not bad for a sharecropper's son from Mississippi.

"Because we had been friends since 1969, I wasn't prepared for how overwhelming it was singing face to face with John Lee when we did this. That was as powerful an erotic pull as I've ever had from a singing partner. I was just swept away by the power of his voice. And you know, I was a grown woman, but I was literally trembling and had broken out in a sweat by the time we were done. If I were a smoker, I would have needed a cigarette." - Bonnie Raitt
