I’d always wondered how to do it but it always seemed such an expensive thing to get in to, companies charge thousands for the software, so when I discovered that older ECUs can be read for so little I went down the rabbit hole trying to find out as much as I can, I’m in the process of trying to learn the performance side of things, seems like a bit of a dark art!

@@TeeeTV It's been a month - Still no EGR warning? :D - I've recently ordered a MPPS V16 to remove the EGR from Ma's Golf (1.6fsi BLR) because they don't want to spend £230 for the delete

Can’t believe I never replied to this! I think I got distracted looking up the Ecu for that engine, did it work? I only found out that the MPPS v16 could do my Ecu and didn’t really look any further, also yes still no egr warning!

@TeeeTV haha no worries. A strange one: Flashed a modded file of the original with EGR and DTC off. It worked. Plugged in VCDS, clear an old code. And then it wouldn't start again. Flashed the original file back to it, starts fine but the EGR warning is back again. Sooooo unsure at the moment!

Sounds to me like you may need to approach the EGR in a different way. I’m guessing that the car has the EGR wide open on start up which in turn closes the intake stopping the car from getting any air or something, message me on my instagram (teetvchannel) and I’ll see if I can help

Hello. Is it neceserry delete EGR fault in VAG before saving and editing file from ECU?

It’s not necessary, the file edit simply changes the EGR control values and doesn’t remove it from the map, therefore the fault can still exist in the map but the ECU will no longer see it as a fault. You can you VCDS or a code reader to delete it before or after :)

No, it’s a requirement of the vehicles to have these systems when they were new but after that there is no law saying these systems must be in place, the only regulation is that at MOT the vehicle should be functioning correctly (no engine light) they actually don’t even lift the bonnet during an MOT.

@@TeeeTV While I appreciate the MOT process will probably not identify a modification to the EGR, it does appear to be an offence to knowingly drive a vehicle on UK roads with a modified emissions system that breaks compliance with its design standard www.gov.uk/government/publications/modifying-your-vehicles-emissions/modifying-your-vehicles-emissions-the-legal-safety-and-health-implications#the-law

ah ok, thanks for letting me know. I've got a 2008 2.5 BNZ, with EGR & DPF. I'm going to get one of those readers, read the ecu and start learning 🤣

Go for it! Looks like your Ecu is a edc16 too so all the hardware and software I used should work for you too, I’m not sure how you map out the DPF but I’m sure there are videos out there that show it

If the question is what comes after an edc16 the answer is edc17 ( but write it backwards :))

@@sas8403 you need to upload the file from your vehicle to the website, then you can make your changes and save them and then download them back to your laptop so that it can be written to your vehicle. The website is just a way of reading the file instead of trying to learn a complicated software like winOLS
