This Is Phase 2 | Mr Robot

Elliot is told about phase 2 of Mr Robot's plans to destroy E Corp but soon learns the lengths fsociety will go to make sure things move accordingly.

Elliot declines a job offer from Tyrell Wellick, interim CTO of E Corp. Elliot, increasingly paranoid, uses more morphine than normal. Darlene visits him at home to bring him to fsociety, surprising him. Mr. Robot and fsociety want Elliot to destroy an E Corp offline backup facility called Steel Mountain by hacking an adjacent gas plant and causing an explosion. Elliot backs out because he does not want to risk lives. Shayla is Elliot's drug dealer and friend. When Elliot notices Fernando Vera, Shayla's supplier, abusing her, Elliot collects evidence against Fernando and turns him in to the police, despite Shayla's explicit instructions not to. Meanwhile, Cisco, an unknown associate of the Chinese hacker group The Dark Army, hacks Ollie's home computer with a CD. Elliot and Mr. Robot discuss Elliot's falling out with his father: Elliot told his mother of his father's terminal illness, despite promising his father he would keep the illness secret. Mr. Robot pushes Elliot off a railing onto the rock-strewn beach below as punishment for not keeping his father's secret.

It's brilliant that everything said means something else, now that we know the ending. that we see Darlene needed to entertain and lure her brother whenever he is his Master self and doesn't know her to get him back to a place he knows and immediately let's Mr Robot take over, both of thrm protecting Elliot from the distraction or pain of knowing who his sister is. And his Mr. Robot even told the truth about his father being awful in frustration... with himself. 🏆✨

9:26 SPOILERS AHEAD Do you think here if the mastermind would have left, it means Elliot father's personality would have been the one in control of Elliot's mind during the rest of the series? Because IMO it appears to be that. This scene is of course a discussion Elliot is having in his head. So I believe when he says to the mastermind that if he leaves he is no longer part of this, it is a metaphor. He is saying that if the mastermind leaves his mind and so he won't save the world, then Elliot's father personality will take over. Thus the rest of the series would have been different. Actually in 9:39 he repeats that he will save the world if he stays. What we now know is the goal of the mastermind.

The show presents the group conversation to appear that way intentionally. The ending of the series explains why scenes like this were filmed in such fashion.

*spoilers spoilers* *SpoilerS* because Mr Robot is not imaginary. When only Elliott and Mr Robot are talking, they're talking in their mind, as ofc they're sharing the same mind. But when Mr Robot is talking to others he's what in DID is called 'fronting' - he's now the personality that 'took control' over body and he can use Elliott's body and voice to speak for himself. That's why Elliot is behind Mr Robot when Mr Robot is talking or taking action. In these scenes Elliot is there only mentally, seeing this scene with their shared body.

i mean, they don’t really try to hide where they get their ideas from it seems. they literally use a version of “where is my mind” by the pixies near the end of s1. i think after s1 spent time appreciating media like fight club, american psycho, etc., mr. robot became more of its own show. and even s1 i think did a good job doing something unique with the fight club, etc. stuff.

Not really. The cinematography and the music is completely different from Fight club. Yeah the whole revolution and the narration was kind of like fight club, but Mr Robot actually went in depth and showed the consequences of what Elliot had truly did, unlike Fight club. Not only that, the show gave insight and development of Elliot's alters and the reason they were formed. Fight club is good, but Mr Robot was better. The twist was better executed here than Fight club. Calling this a rip off is an insult to the whole crew and writers of Mr Robot because it clearly isn't, and you probably haven't even finished the show. I don't ever seem to recall the narrator being a guy with social anxiety fighting depression, doing drugs and extreme paranoia. Mr Robot is similar to Tyler Durden, but that was intentional.

How these have been interwoven through its script, music, visuals and storytelling is actually staggering!
