He very simply explains it as a violation of the NDA. It was like… floating the idea to him. The lawyers didn’t want him to talk to El alone because he might’ve made a more formal request or something that would violate the agreement. But they needed to leave so that we could feel the obvious sort of… platonic/romantic vibes of their similarities. Watching Tyrell frown down at the city was almost a poignant moment, if it wasn’t for how shady and weird he comes across in the entire sequence.

So much so that the elliot as we see sometimes masks and/or hides some parts of reality, both in minor (everyone he knows saying "evil corp" instead of "e-corp") and major ways too (the whole prison arc). the audience, much like actual Elliot, is observing the events all from his head. a wrapped and introspective perception of his reality

From personal experience, people with power are furious when you turn down their offers or walk away, and they'll say whatever they can to discredit you... the reason you left couldn't possibly have been anything to do with them after all (that would require humility, introspection and remorse which most do not possess). It must've been your character flaws or BS about imaginary unethical motives you must have been unable to fulfill under their grand serendipitous rule. Possibly the hardest but most eye-opening time of my life.

In the pilot, this scene seemed like those people there were the elite group in control of the world with Tyrell in charge, but I get that would have been too simple puzzle and too soon, so it makes sense they changed it to just Tyrell with a ridiculous amount of lawyers trying to hire Elliot, leaving the elite group for the final episodes.
