This was their very first MV from 2014. Other fans will get into much greater detail, but this is the video that most of us in the West first heard & kicked their fandom into high gear. Wait until you hear them live!! You only have about 48 more songs to go. Their catalog is deep. Live is the way to go with these girls. Try any of the following three for a first listen. Play, Moritorium, or Puzzle. Great reaction!!

"Thrill" as their breakthrough video and "Real Existence" that followed soon after was the powerful one-two punch that knocked me on my ass and made me and many others BAND-MAID fans for life, and it has gotten even better since. The words "Breaking new gate" is (1) fulfilling its own prophetic of them making a breakthrough into world-wide recognition of heir talent and skill with this very song and MV and (2) when I first heard the phrase I got the image of The Incredible Hulk walking right through a wall and "making an entrance" in 2 different meanings of the words, but it was not a big green man but 5 Japanese super-charming twenty-something women in maid uniforms breaking through the walls surrounding Hard-Rock mastery and stardom and (3) a charming example of their somewhat broken English; They are guaranteed to give you, and the rest of us, "More Enjoy" as they said in this song, as we continue listening to them and especially when we go to their concerts; It has been really great going to their concerts now when they still perform in smallish clubs and such outside japan when you can enjoy their performance and charm and fun personalities really close-up (if you queue early). They are one of the very few bands that sound (and feel!) greater live than in the studio. Soon enough they will be filling large venues world-wide with their concerts. Have run out of fingers counting the concerts of theirs I have been to and started on the toes. The last few years I did 3 concerts in-a-row traveling to central Europe and following them from city to city, and still always left wanting more after the 3rd... You just never get enough of them...

Mr. Rock and Roll, your videos are AWESOME AND HILARIOUS! I LOVE THEM! My two GREATEST FINDS in 2019 are Nightwish with Floor Jansen and BAND-MAID! Floor is an absolute VIKING GODDESS with pipes of an ANGEL! BAND-MAID is, in my opinion, in the top 3 bands of all time with the BEATLES and LED ZEPPELIN joining them! I HAVE NEVER HEARD A BAND THAT HAS 5 MUSICIANS AS INCREDIBLY TALENTED AND AS TIGHT AS BAND-MAID! They defy logic! At the risk of sounding like a chauvinist, I can’t believe their sound comes from 5 young Japanese GIRLS! MY MIND HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY BLOWN!!!

Band-Maid didn’t write this song but they sure played the hell out of it. This is their “Kobato will hold a guitar” phase. Miku has become quite a fine guitarist in just over five years. She’s got Kanami for a teacher, but she’s put in the work. She’s also the band’s poet lyricist, chief promoter, and wise small pigeon of happiness.
@ecclesiastes1185 жыл бұрын
Dude, Band-Maid is so good they have an alternative identity of themselves called Band-Maiko where they've redone some of their songs to include traditional Japanese instrumentation. For example, there's a song called "Secret My Lips" and then the alternate version called "Secret Maiko Lips". One of my favorites with both versions is called "Screaming" but they don't have a video for it. You'd have to just check out the audio for that one or a live version.

I had been to a fair number of concerts in my time, from bands who were known for great live performances- Scorpions 5x, Metallica, Rush, Heart, G&R, Aerosmith, and more. These girls wrecked them all. Because of their limited US tour, I spent over $1K to travel to Dallas to see them, and I would do it over, and over again. They are that good. Lead singer Saiki mentioned in an interview that they could clearly hear us shout the "Hey!" part, even with their ear monitors in. THRILL is the track I just gotta hear Blasting out of my car speakers on my way home from work. These women can JAM! It's amazing how this band's videos & songs that came out a few years ago STILL has an affect on us newbies, man. The vocals, that guitarist, that bass-slappin', and Dude...the drummer.....That Drummer. Look man: I NEVER had Any kind of Japanese band/group in my cd collections growing up, or Ever. But this year 2019, I'm blasting jams by Baby Metal & BAND MAID on the commute to, or from work. WHY? Because of their Fans sharing the music here on KZbin. Okay, you have a choice to make. You can either watch more Music Videos, say their new one '輪廻 Rennin', or you can check out some of their performances from their Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert. I would start with 'Play!' LIVE. It may not be their best song, but it's a good starting point. There really are no bad songs, but their catalog is wide and deep. So you may occasionally hit on one that's not for you, but that's because they do it all. There's something for everyone. If you do get into some songs you're not into, say slow ballads, just move on to something else. Some are Pop, some Rock, some slow, some are fast. It's a roller-coaster ride. Enjoy!

Yep, that was pretty much my reaction. You want some serious bass soloing? The intro to the live version of Play is killer. The call and answer in "Take Me Higher" (live version) is a must listen! Thrill was the second one I heard from them. The first was "Start Over," considered their weakest by western fans. But as the first one I heard from them it blew me away with the musician ship and talent. Then I hit Thrill and found that they rocked. Next, "Real Existence" and OMFG! I play drums, and when I heard that one, that was it. I made my first iTunes purchase EVER. First money I'd spent on music in DECADEs! Then I found they were going to be playing a show less than 20 miles from my house in a few weeks time. Best 200 bucks I ever spent. Saw them again this year. You have gotta check out their live stuff. But I have to tell you, IT NEVER ENDS! Every new song you hear from them is going to blow you away. It just Never Ends!

Their last and best song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYKclZV7i8yNmaM Rinne/Reincaration Taking my time I rise and fade and fall It’s a tragic reincarnation Going round and round in abandonment I’ve come to hate this excess state of mind I struggle with this hate What good is it for? What’s the point of it? This see through secret Not more Stupid yeah Open your eyes ‘Cuz even if you stop breathing The world won’t change at all I know…. So then if it can’t end Even a meaningless mistake Twists the gears You know… The ticking of the clock doesn’t stop Get down That’s enough It can’t be fixed, I’m not waking up It separates, and life just keeps growing Rolling in, round, go ahead and go around Anywhere, to a place far away Go far away I should zip my lips Spit out this pain I’ll leave it up to you I felt like I heard a voice Close your eyes Even if the dream ends No one comes to help I know… This is why I can’t sleep Even when always doing right Nothing is born from faking it You know…. Break the ticking clock and Get down Reincarnation Living and Dying Why? What do you live for? Even if you cry out You can’t save anything in this world Honesty doesn’t pay That makes no sense Open your eyes ‘Cause even if you stop breathing The world won’t change at all I know….. Welcome to the Band Maid rabbit hole of wonder. You should try their live performances next..they sound even better than their MVs. FYI, their new album drops in 4 more days but the digital version is already available. I'm waiting for my copy 😻

It was because of this that I used Apple Music to download everything they have...and I’ve been listening to it for 3 days straight. Dammit, sir. I must thank you for that.

This is their first video and the breakout song. Written by the Amuse writers, but I understand Miku worked on the lyrics. At the time they were somewhat struggling for recognition. Then 1 day they checked KZbin and Thrill had 3 million views. At first they feared they had been hacked. It wasn't hacked. The majority of the views were from the US and Europe to their surprise. Their management got a tour for them and every since their fan base has continued to grow.The Japanese then wondered what the foreigners liked about them, hence the Japanese fan base grew.

Mary's Blood - Marionette (and see Saki put 99% of the shredders to shame) Yousei Teikoku , Aldious, Wagakki Band, Show-Ya, Galmet, Destrose, Exist Trace, Dazzle Vision, Doll $ Boxx, Bridear, Cross Vein, Gauntlet, Galneryus, Jiluka, Nocturnal Bloodlust ..... there's soooooooooo many of them. Asian metal scene is incredible. And of course, Babymetal.

Don't miss the Music Gold Rush interview parts one and two with English Subs. It will give you more background into the band. Watch for Saiki push Miku out into the studio. Kanami is adorable.

@Mr. Rock N Roll This song and music video is their life line, if this song doesn't take them anywhere, they're gonna quit, but amazingly one day they check the MV had millions of views.. And the rest is history

Points deducted for stopping it right at the post-solo transition back to the heavy distorted guitar and crashing Akane drums. Other than that, this reaction is priceless! You are, to quote Keanu Reeves' character in Youngblood, a facking animale!! :-D haha keep 'em coming \m/ \m/
