You can't go wrong with the Stones, so many great songs to check out. "Paint it black", "Gimme shelter", "Stray cat blues"(from this same album), "It's only rock & roll", "She's so cold", "Wild horses" and my personal favourite "Midnight rambler" just to name a few..., the last one live is smth else. Basically a 9-minute bluesy guitargasm.

Hey, I can't believe you've never encountered the Stones in your rock & roll journey! My very first album, passed down to me by my much older sister, was a Stones greatest hits compilation. This was 1971 or 2 I think when I was five lol. In any case, I was hooked, and I acquired the Beggars Banquet album about this time. It seems that BB, from which this song originates, is probably their very peak, with a very gritty sound throughout. It's informed by a surly sarcasm (Sympathy For The Devil), raw sexual energy (Stray Cat Blues), with a bright twinkle of humour underneath (Factory Girl), edged with pre-punk calls to arms (Street Fighting Man - the guitar in the live version is pure punk). If you want to see a truly far-out verson of this song, check out the performance in The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus; if they were trying to defuse criticisms of devil worship with it, this version will not do any good at all in that regard lol. As for their origins, they were originally part of the first wave of the British invasion in 1964, having been formed from the fundament that was the London jazz and blues scene. From the start they were seen as the #1 threat to the virginity of the British nation's young female population, and a bad influence overall. They tended to be portrayed as the boys your mother warned you about, as opposed to the cute little buggers in the Beatles your mum would much prefer you chase after haha. Aaaand, if you really want to get a glimpse into what the band was like in the early 70s, look for a rockumentary called C*cksucker Blues. The band hired a famous documentary maker to film their 1971-2 US tour. There were some staged parts, but there's lots of insights into the rock culture and business of the period as it emerges from the hippy trippy 60s to a glamourous future of ever larger stage shows and concerts. Fueled by metric tonnes of drugs. Seriously, there is a credit at the end for the "Junkie Sound Man" (and we do get glimpses of him sliding into it throughout), and we see Jagger and Richards both spending their days drunk and woozy on downers, only to get that extra boost of Colombian marching powder just before they hit the stage

Great song. Besides "Paint It, Black", probably my most favourite Stones song. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is neat too, without the boy choire intro maybe and great especially from the moment on when it picks up some speed. Nice use of the classic line "Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name" I remember in the Stephen King TV-movie adaption of "The Stand" in 1994. Nice reference. And I'm ususally not into remixes much, but the Neptunes Remix (and video) of this song is pretty great as well.

I will argue all day long that this is the greatest rock song ever written. Starting off with a couple instruments and vocals and building through the entire song. Along with unbelievable lyrics that tell an amazing story from. The devil himself. Musically and lyrically greatest song ever written. If you want to hit another amazing song check out brown sugar. I'm still in the middle of watching your reaction. It's great! I love the way you dance around and really get into it and listen to it! I think this song says that Evil is present in all of these situations. It's up to us as having free will to choose whether or not to engage in this bloodlust. The Devil is seductive. He's even telling you who he is. But you can bet you're a sweet ass that when something bad is going down he's going to be standing there watching it with glee. So what are you going to do and what side are you coming down on? 'Pleased to meet you, let's shake! Want to have some fun?" Don't be seduced by your demons, your weaknesses, your vulnerabilities. You are accountable. Violence begets violence. From Pilate to the Blitzkrieg to the assassination of JFK, there were men involved that arrogant believed the hurt they were causing to others at was justified and convinced many others to go along with them. Never forget, you could be one of those others. The Devil will present himself in a tasteful and wealthy way and offer you power. "What's puzzling you is the nature of my game " He's a trickster. He's confusing you. Offering you a choice. Offering you tempting things. But if you watch the last of the lyrics he says "Tell you one time, you're to blame." Like he's saying "Hey dude, don't blame me!" 🤲 As if he weren't sitting on your shoulder, egging you on. Tempting you to choose his way. Enjoying every minute of it. That describes the inner demons Mick Jagger speaks of, in my mind. That's my perspective. But we have to remember we have inner Angels too. The Devil loves misery, the more the better, makes people angry and mean. "Just as every cop is a criminal and all the Dinners Saints." That's Lucifer saying, "Yes, I might have given you a little push , but you're the one that did it.That's on you." You're right, not all cops are criminals. Not all sinners are saints. We are all sinners at some point in our lives. But if we are sorry and if we learn and change, we can be forgiven. "As heads is tails (see that? He's trying to confuse you. They're not the same thing, but he's right, it could go either way.) Just call me Lucifer (Pick me!). Have some sympathy, his recruiting is endless. He may be in need of restraint, but he sure as hell isn't going to restrain himself and hopes you won't either. So keep your eyes open or he'll take you for all you've got. You've been warned. All of this is conscious choice. More legit that way, sign right here! We all possess capacity for Good and Evil within us. It's all of our choices that bring us to where we are. Did you notice how friendly and well-bred Mick Jagger's voice sounds? I'd be careful before shaking his hand and making a deal with the Devil. How will I know you ask? If you're making the deal out of selfishness or greed or to bypass the needed work, you may be making a deal with the Devil. Seduced into addiction, for greed, power or lust? All very tempting choices that rarely end well. Whether you're Robert Johnson or Bart Simpson. JK, LOL. There is an actual battle between Good and Evi l going on in this world, this Universe. Act accordingly. Okay, I'm going back to watch you rock out to the rest of this excellent but haunted song, dude! 🤘 That was great! I'll close with this: What's my name? Same as yours. Own it. Do all the Good you can to counteract the Evil done by men. It's a war of attrition. Great first time visit to your channel! Thank you! 😇👹

Read the classic book "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov and you'll see Sympathy for the Devil written in it....Jagger's girlfriend at the time one Marianne gave him the book as a present and soon thereafter he wrote Sympathy on his own (though it's listed as a Jagger/Richards, as most are). Excellent book; it's like Alice from Wonderland gone to Communist Russia.

@ first, thanks for sharing. The studio version is just great but live on the album `get yer ya-yas out` it is a killer song, especially the guitar solos. At first from the right side Keith comes in with his dirty licks and a few minutes later Mick Taylor startet low from the left and made one of the best solos I`ve ever heard. M.T is one of the most underated guitarists ever and that`s a shame. Greets @all from hamburg (germany)

Great song, great reaction. I find your interpretation of the lyrics interesting. For me, this is a song about humans using the devil as an excuse for the terrible things we do and avoid accountability, hence why we should have ‘sympathy for the devil’. He ‘made damn sure Pilate washed his hands’ (avoid responsibility) and ‘watched with glee’ at the religious wars, but didn’t cause any of these terrible things, that is all humans.

ins The Rolling Stones Are First Act With Billboard 200 Top 10 Albums Each Decade Since the 1960s with 38 in total. My bestest song by them, is most likely "Country Honk" and "Honky Tonk Women" which are kinds the same but totally not. The guitar solo in "Sympathy for the Devil" is in the top ten of all time. The use of silence as important as the notes. The Rolling Stones always had a very good look on what had to be there. If it didn't, then it wasn't. Keith Richards explains the 5-string guitar: '5 strings, 3 notes, 2 hands and 1 ..rear.... (= "open G" tuning,. ..

The first Angels and People had no choice. They followed God without fail. In my opinion God noticed his error and gave us free choice. Also without evil, there is no need for good. One without the other is a realm where neither exists because there is no way to judge. Anyway .. Y'all be cool and always remember that we have a gift, to be as best as we can, or as not so good as we can because God gifted us that.
@BluesImprov

You don't really get it. . .It's VERY simple. . .The Devil is basically saying through the lyrics that we shouldn't blame him for the evil things that we do. . .A line almost at the end sums up the whole song when he says, "I tell you one time, YOU'RE to blame". So we need to face the fact that any "evil' that we do is not the Devil's fault. . .As he says, "YOU'RE to blame", meaning US!!!!! And, THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC, IT'S ABOUT THE LYRICS. Focus on the message, man. The music is really not a big deal, pretty repetitive, with a few Keith Richards guitar licks thrown in, and that's it. BUT, the lyrics are gold. . .I'm not sure you get that, but your "act" instead of concentrating on the message is not that cool. The "music" is the LEAST important part of this song!!!
