"a gift shop" *blank stare* this was a perfect moment in the video I agree the immersion is the biggest thing that makes a Disney attraction so good and is why certain rides are given a "C for carnival" in your tier list videos because they just don't have that Disney immersion you expect. The theming is everything it's why Disney's coasters are so good despite not being the fastest or twistiest or tallest or most inversions etc etc.
@Disneylander4 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree! That's certainly a big factor in the "c for carnival" deal. The more immersed you are, the less you remember you're on a ride, even if it's not the most "thrilling" physical experience ever.

Disney's bluffing. I agree that a Princess & the Frog themed attraction could fit in well in New Orleans Square. But they're not gonna shell out millions to remake one of their absolute largest rides (not to mention the loss of revenue from keeping it shut down for a year or more).

the gift shop comment made me laugh out loud!! love the humor you use to sprinkle throughout this discussion and I totally agree with all of your points, although I would have added music/soundtrack as its own point. The soundtrack of the rides is what elevates a good ride to an excellent ride!

My brother and I live right outside of Orlando and we go to universal and Disney world all the time and we recently talked about this. We concluded that universal is all about the rides and the theming doesn’t extend too much beyond the rides but Disney is a place you can go and not ride any rides and still have this immersive and fun time.
@Disneylander4 жыл бұрын
It's true!!! Disneyland is the really the only park who seems to be interested in more than having extreme rides.

The reason universal can’t immerse you is because they’re terrible at line of sight. One time at islands of adventure, I was walking through marvel land and could clearly see hogwarts castle

It doesn't get any better than Disneyland or the other Disneyland parks when it comes to AMAZING rides and the feeling of complete immersion! The BEST ride for when you are weary and need a rest at Disneyland is gone :(. The PEOPLE MOVER was legit the best ever ride to chill and relax to regain your energy all while being entertained along the way! You know you could have added a 6th category that makes Disney rides amazing is BELIEVABILITY! Like with all their rides it makes you believe what is happening is real!! The effects are so outstanding it doesnt make you think you are on a ride but legit immersed in what is all around you believing its real! =D

I think my favorite thing about Disney rides is that they still hold true to Walt’s original vision, which is that they are fun for the whole family. Some of the biggest e-tickets might exclude some family members, but generally speaking, the rides appeal to all ages and there are rides that toddlers and grandparents can experience together and both enjoy. Not only that, but in a similar vein as the comfort piece, accessibility is also paramount. There is a KZbinr named Pammie Plus Parks and she often will address accessibility of rides for people who are plus sized or, occasionally, that have disabilities and she has unfortunately been unable to experience several Universal rides because they don’t make their rides as accessible, but Disney does! As someone with a brother in a wheelchair and a family of plus-sized people, I appreciate that Disney, especially modern Disney, does their best to account for these things and to accommodate as many people as possible to keep it as a family park that does not only cater to a specific demographic. Totally unrelated, maybe you can use Princess and the Frog as inspiration for your outro and say something like, thanks friends, I’ll see you on the other side, or since you love the Indiana Jones ride so much, you could use one of the lines he says at the end of the ride, though most probably wouldn’t make much sense contextually. Even so, there’s: Not bad for tourists! Now, stay out of trouble, would you? There! That wasn’t so bad, was it? Next time, you’re on your own. Next time, you wear blindfolds, okay? Don’t tell me that wasn’t big fun! Tourists, why‘d it have to be tourists? Or maybe just a line from the ride? Like, “If you enjoyed this video, please click and subscribe. I’m Disneylander and remember, NEVER look into the eyes of Mara. Bye.”
@Disneylander4 жыл бұрын
That's a really really good point! I don't think any other theme park even comes close to the accessibility of Disneyland. It's not just for kids or just for adults, it's really for everybody! And those are genuinely good ideas!!! But I think part of me secretly enjoys ending videos with nonsense 😂 I'm afraid to commit to a youtuber cliche.

I feel so bad I haven't watched this sooner! I'm so glad you're back Bram! I can't wait for Disneyland to finally open back up! Speaking of rides, one ride that I would love to see-- that is absolutely a pipedream and will never happen, is an Into The Woods ride! 😆 Or maybe Into The Woods walk-through! One thing I love as much as I love Disney parks, are Broadway musicals, and ITTW is absolutely one of my favorite Stephen Sondheim musicals! (If you've seen Disney's movie adaptation of Sweeney Todd, then you've seen a Sondheim musical.) It was by no means perfect-- I was just heartbroken that they cut "No More" for the movie, and it would've been so perfect if they had cast Donna Murphy as The Witch/Rapunzel's mother because not only did she perform as The Witch in a Broadway revival, but she was the voice of Mother Gothel in Tangled-- but I still enjoyed Disney's adaptation. I would love to see some elements of that movie brought into the parks. Be it alternate outfits for Cinderella and Rapunzel, or some kind of journey through the story.

Hi! Great to hear from you, Jes! I'm glad to be back!!! And I've never seen it, but that would be really awesome! And very creative. Makes me think of all the poor amazing Disney creations that will never get proper love in the parks...

@@Disneylander Right? I remember when I was little, my dream job was to become an Imagineer, simply so I could finally build a Mary Poppins ride or walk-through attraction, because it was my favorite Disney film (and still is)! My dad works in construction, so I remember the day he brought home a giant marker board like the one he had in his trailer for a job he was working on at the time, and hung it on the wall for my younger brothers and I to draw on, and I would use it as my drawing board for how I would design a Mary Poppins attraction. My idea at the time was to put it somewhere in Fantasyland and for the ride, have the mural of the chalk drawing the characters jump in to in the movie on the wall of the boarding area, and the ride vehicles would replicate the horses you'd see on a carousel and they would bob up and down like actual carousel vehicles, and would take you through the story of the movie or at least from the Chalk World forward. Eventually I decided that to fit more riders, it would need to be like the stationary benches you see on carousels for wheelchair-bound guests, but they would be zazzed up with some Disney magic, and some would look like they belonged on a carousel, while other vehicles would look like umbrellas or have fancy umbrellas all over them to make guests feel like they were flying with Mary Poppins's umbrella she uses at the beginning and end of the film, while other ride vehicles would have fancy kites painted on them. Then for my walk-through, my idea was to walk through iconic moments of the film, lile the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through or Tarzan's Treehouse, and there would be a children's area for kids to make chalk drawings on giant chalkboards that would be hanging on the walls, with maybe some kiddie tables, drawing paper, crayons, colored pencils, or markers for kids to sit and draw as they relaxed for a moment. Of course Math was not my strong suit, so I thought I would never be able to be an Imagineer if I couldn't actually use graphing and decimals-- not to mention I didn't know how I would go about becoming the ride designer who would draw the concept art for the actual engineers and builders to create, so I gave up on that dream. As for Into The Woods, you gotta watch it! Watch it with Aurora! I think you both will enjoy it! There are two versions that you have to see, and that's the 1991 Playhouse Production with the original 1987 Broadway cast (which imo is the definitive version ngl) because Bernadette Peters plays the role of The Witch! (I know you're not a 90s kid like me, so I don't know how familiar you are with the children's media of that decade but... if you've ever seen the cartoon Animaniacs, it had a segment called "Rita and Runt" which would follow the antics of two strays, Rita the Cat, and Runt the Dog, as they tried to find someone who would adopt them. Peters voiced Rita, and because of her Broadway background, the show writers wrote a bunch of songs for Bernadette to sing in the majority of episodes!) The other version is the Disney adaptation with Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, and Meryl Streep as The Witch. That way you get a feeling for what was cut/changed from stage to screen. My only "warning" (and I'm using quotations for a reason) I would have for you going into the show and movie is that it's the definition of the "After 'Happily Ever After'," "Be careful what you wish for" trope-- depending on how brunt out you are on it. The entire conceit of the show is that the first act plays out as a traditional fairytale where the characters of the different stories interact with each other and make impacts on each other's stories and the story being told at large, with Act One "ending" with "To Be Continued!", cut to Act Two and the characters have gotten their wishes from the top of Act One, but are unhappy. And the thing is, you kinda have to be willing to suspend your disbelief for it to work, because while in 2020 the "After Ever After" trope is considered played out now, the musical first premiered in 1987 (the same year I was born), and the whole deconstruction of fairytales and "What happens after "...and they lived happily ever after"," was a brand new concept 33 years ago, and had never been done before. But I think you will enjoy it anyway because the story still holds up three decades later. And once again I have left overly long comments! 😅 I hope you missed those during your hiatus!

Immersion is the key to any great ride. If I can see the “outside world” (namely the parking lot or the highway) while I’m on a ride, it ruins the illusion. But that never happens on a Disney ride.
@Disneylander4 жыл бұрын
That's true! Disney is especially good with "sight lines" aka only having you see exactly what Disney wants you to see and nothing outside of that. That's what lets the immersion be possible!
