This is great comedy tv, i watched alot of the original series, great to see some of the original cast in the newer modern series, little moments that reflect on the legendary shopkeeper Mr Arkwright, its all classic!

I have to say Sir David, apart from being a loveable and brilliant actor, will never be typecast. He is just so different in everything he does from Only Fools and Horses, Frost, The Darling Buds of May. The list is endless, but he is just brilliant in all his work. Well deserving of his knighthood. A brilliant loveable, wonderful actor.

Not really. More of a tribute to Ronnie I think. Yes, this was never gonna be as good as the original, but not a bad effort I don't think. My main issue is they tried too hard for laughs and it got silly. Dressing Gastric in a spaceman suit for example. It started to get a bit like Mrs Browns Boys, with the antics! They should have kept the comedy more subtle. Roy Clarke the writer is in his 90s now. Probably a bit past his prime when it comes to writing now sadly. It was all a nice sentiment though. :-)

They Had Create Somewhere Along Those Lines. If He Acted The Opposite Than Arkwright It Wouldn’t Be The Same
@walkernick864 жыл бұрын
Not really. He doesn't have a stutter for a start. but After working with someone for years, then you have to fill their shoes, you would become a bit like them anyway.
@timrob874 жыл бұрын
1) Granville was raised up & trained by Arkwright his entire life, so it only makes sense for him to end up running the business in the same way, & 2) the original series was wonderful, but people are just being defensively nostalgic in judging this series.
@OldManBill13 жыл бұрын
@@walkernick86 Exactly. He did Mock Arkwright’s stutter throughout the shows first 2 series, but then stopped. He acted a lot like Arkwright at the start, but as the series have been going on, he’s just done own he’s thing

Doesn't work without Ronnie barker and Even David Jason can't salvage the weak script and tired jokes. It should have been left as a nice TV memory .

Totally agree. Granville was his own person and they've morphed him into a carbon copy of his uncle...it's just not realistic.

True but Jason probably knew that but wanted to do it anyway just in memory of Ronnie himself and because it’s where it all started for him.

Still open all hours has come to an end after 6 seasons. I did watch it the first time it came out years ago and it didn't really seem to work for me. Yes, it was nice of the idea to see what Granville would look like and wonder if he did take over the shop but the humour came across as very fake and Granville was just another copy of Arkwright. I think it has possibly ruined the legacy of Open all hours but had they kept Granville to his original character it may have worked out better. Something's are better left to the people's imagination.

I enjoyed the idea of this 'sequel' series but I'm afraid after a few episodes I gave up. The canned laughter was bloody awful. With titters and chuckles being put in when there wasn't a scrap of humour in the line being delivered. It became cringeworthy. Sorry Sir David but the sound enginner who laid the canned laughter audio over the recording should've been shot.
