Thank you - glad you liked it! 🙏 So to us, it brings up that whole "it is not my fault -I am built that way" but in Victorian times, using the excuse of Phrenology. We still have the theme to the graduate playing in our collective heads....😉

That was the persecution of a woman’s imagination. I believe Darwin understood the case; would a person having an affair dare to put it in writing? Mrs. Robinson coped with her unhappy marriage by entering fantasies in her diary. Shame that a glass house like her husband shattered his wife’s own delicate foundations. What a sad case.

Yes - it is hard to say what was going on with her. It reminds us a bit of the alleged numerous Victorian women who were going mad. We always thought the enforced corsets had something to do with it, but to have a high sexual drive - as she claimed - with no outlet - one can see her using her diary as a means to relieve the pressure. The potential impact on Dr Lane would be immense. Not everyone is able to withstand an unhappy marraige.😔

I had no idea that it was this difficult to obtain a divorce in Victorian times. Its great that the Robinsons were able to initially gain separation, at least. But, eventually Mr. Robinson did receive a divorce from his wife, Mrs. Robinson because he was finally able to "catch her in the act," period! Do you know whatever happened to the Robinsons children? Also, whatever happened to Dr. Lane and his wife? Great investigating, presenting, backstories, illustrations, photos, and videos, as well. Take care 🦋

Queen Victoria and Albert's reign brought in sweeping changes! It really was quite "before / after" in so many ways. The marraige laws would be overhauled again in 1870 and 1882 with women being allowed to keep their own assets. As for the children - we believe she had them since she apparently carried on an affair with their french tutor! Who, allegedly, she had become obsessed with - not so unlike the poor Dr Lane! Yes, Dr Lane! We looked and looked and could not find a followup on him. The papers, as a whole, highly condemned Mrs Robinson and his family stood by him. Hopefully, he was not tainted too much. 👍

As always I very much enjoyed your video. First l have to say that I think queen Victoria was right. This was a very odd case and I think that the judge was right in the decision. I do think that the language of the diary was very odd even for the time. So I will say that she just read more into it all than there was in reality. R.C. and team thank you for all your hard work putting out these videos l so look forward to them. Take care 🙏

Thank you!🙏 the judges took months to come to a decision - and the case really upset everyone at the time! Apparently, she never really wantd to marry him but she was placed under much pressure. She was one of our odder people we have covered.. 🙄 Thank you os very much for your support!🙌

Oh dear!! What a palaver!! I'm so glad that it's a LOT easier to get divorced these days!! Being forced to be married to someone you don't love causes nothing but misery to all concerned, including any children of the marriage!! I really enjoyed this, Robin!! Thanks for sharing!! 💕💞👏💙👍❤
