@@elvenkind6072 it's a game the allows you to actually role play a story as it doesn't really tell one. You build up a team of 5-15-30 people or so that you create stories for in your head. As hard as you try to keep everyone alive in a brutal post apocalyptic world, you will lose friends along the way and struggle just to survive. The world is huge and diverse and has a lot of organic story telling such as slavers capturing some of your people and then those who weren't caught, rush to catch up and free them, creating a 5 hour sequence of guerilla warfare to save 3 people. I had to chase down 50 slavers and try and rescue my friends and they were just too strong. Then suddenly, a war party of starving peasants attacks the slavers, trying to get food, creating chaos as I jumped in and rescued 2 of my friends but the third was killed in the chaos. My biggest recommendation if you are going to play Morrowind, is to use cheat command line and set your Speed to 100 right at the beginning. This is literally required to play the game at normal modern speed, it's not even a cheat, otherwise you will literally spend 50% of the game time walking around very slowly. Daggerfall had fast travel, Morrowind was actually the odd one of the bunch that removed the feature. There are in-game "fast travel" such as boat and magic transport. Morrowind do not have quest markers so half of the quests are finding the location, there are online detailed Morrowind game map, I recommend just using it. But I actually enjoy this walking aspect of the game which forces you to explore and it make the game world feel bigger. You should play Morrowind with the OpenMW frontend, it is better than the original launcher and also fixes bugs. Another tip is that you need to play this game with a certain mindset. This game is very open for players choice, you are meant to take advantage and exploit the game mechanic. If you play with modern games mindset where devs lock players into a narrow playstyle it won't feel as fun. That means you can stack attribute potions, such as using Intelligence potion to massively raise your magic points, and create custom spells that does massive area effect or damages, or jump across the game map in one jump (fast travel). If you feel too strong though I would use the difficulty slider.
@MrSaviorHD4 ай бұрын
I will be giving Morrowind a shot soon in the future. So I appreciate the tips and help!
@alexalex40414 ай бұрын
I am going to second the "look for an actual map" comment. Morrowind is from an era where games came with physical manuals (and paper maps) and it is assumed you have access to these to understand how to play the game. Even with a map, some directions are really obscure, so be prepared. Nothing that a quick google search can't fix though.
@greenscheme20403 ай бұрын
There is a single belt mod or something that increases your speed to about the starting speed in Oblivion. Also one that regenerates your magic like Oblivion because in Morrowind you either have to drink potions or sleep to get your magic points back to cast again. (Kill something, run far away, take a nap, then run back to the next group in the cave gets to be a drag fast). Goggle "Lauranas" for these plus one that gives the Scamp more money so you don't have to stand there for 2 weeks "making change" over and over again when selling upscale armor etc.

Happened in Morrowind as well. I've no idea if it was done on purpose, but it seems clear that a metric ton of the NPCs were meant(?) to annoy the sheet out of you. 😂 My favorite thing was when they'd interrupt your action, force conversation, but you were in the midst of clicking rapidly, they'd barely speak, dialog box would cancel, and you immediately slash them. 💪😎✌️ Nice. And then... there was the "forbidden chicken" in Skyrim. You know the one; it was GLOBALLY flagged that if you killed it, absolutely *everyone* on the face of the planet wanted your dumb arse in a sling for poultricide. Actually game-breaking without using the console ("~"). 🤣😂🤣

Oblivion still holds a special place in my heart as it's the game that made me fall in love with The Elder Scrolls. A friend at the time was telling me all about Morrowind, how great it was and how I should play it. I went and bought it for Xbox and after playing it for a few hours completely hated it. I couldn't understand what the hype was about. A year later I saw Oblivion on the shelf at my local game store and was about to pass it up but something told me to give it a chance. I took that chance and bought it and after escaping the prison and exploring the world I was hooked. This was everything I wanted Morrowind to be. I got it for Xbox 360 and unlocked every single achievement. Of course I played Skyrim and ESO later on but to this day Oblivion remains my favorite entry in the series. If it wasn't for that game I wouldn't be a fan of the franchise today.

It was a random recommend for me, too, but I’m having a lot of fun!! Everything seems like a reference from Skyrim to me (although obvs the opposite is true), and now I finally understand why my Reddit friends get soooo excited about things that are callbacks to the other games! It IS exciting and fun! I’m definitely understanding more about certain CC content!

@@Miss_Camel The first four games of Elder Scrolls all take place within about 20 to 25 years of each other so you feel like you are living a whole lifetime in it. It was really jarring to jump 200 years ahead in Skyrim. I hated that jump. Made all my questing in those first 4 games come to nothing and left me with an empty feeling.

@@greenscheme2040 omg…that would be genuinely upsetting, no one has ever told me that before!! I definitely have a better understanding of why everyone is always talking about oblivion and morrowind now, that’s like losing a close friend, abruptly and without closure. But also, I’m sorry that happened and that Bethesda was an asshole. 😢 (I wish I could say it surprised me, but I don’t think they actually can anymore)

Oblivion is one of my favorite games ever. It's just so damn charming, even when it's being a bit buggy. And funny enough, I think the main questline is kind of the worst part of the game. So if you do keep playing (you should) you're in for a wild ride. Also play Shivering Isles (the DLC). It slaps. One of the best ever. Good vibeo happy Savior like game :)

It is everything else in the game and the DLCs (Shimmering Isles especially) that make Oblivion the greatest game ever. Play it again but follow this pattern ... Give the Amulet to Jauffre, close first gate in Kvatch, storm the castle. During this do not, NOT, N-O-T ever open a dialog with Martin!!!!! If you stop after this you are the Hero of Kvatch and NPCs worry about the threat but nothing ever happens regards the main quest ever again. No Oblivion Gates open in the land. Nada. The main quest only re-starts when YOU want it to ... if ever. To do that go to the Kvatch refugee tent site. Martin is there happily living his life peacefully. Talk to him then and the quest starts like it was just hours after you closed the first gate as far as the main quest is concerned. But the real joy of Oblivion is doing all the other quests in the game. "Whodunit" (Dark Brotherhood) and "The Ultimate Heist" (Thieves Guild) are worth a replay just for those two quests alone.
@greenscheme20403 ай бұрын
Why would you even do the main quest? Never open a dialog with Martin and after you close the first gate no others appear. Go enjoy the rest of the game instead like everybody else does.

Stealth archer is great. You can also brew poisons and apply them to arrows. Starts with light boost to the damage, but if you train alchemy, those three effect poisons you can brew eventually will kill anything. And collecting rare ingredients gives you at least some reason to go through Oblivion gates.

Disagree. Oblivion might seem deeper, but it’s really not. Skyrim is more streamlined, but things matter more. Leveling didn’t matter in Oblivion. You never felt any progression, which is why I think Morrowind is the best. You go from being a complete weakling, to a literal GOD!!

Oblivion has BY FAR the BEST storyline of any Elder Scrolls game and dare I say of any Bethesda game. Don't get me wrong.. I LOVE Skyrim's storyline and I have played it so much since it came out. But I think Oblivion is the better game, the aesthetic, the music, everything makes it the perfect Elder Scrolls game. But I only came around to liking Oblivion more around 5 years ago. If I got asked years ago what the best Elder Scrolls game was, I'd say Skyrim. It was one day I decided to replay Oblivion after many years of not playing the game. I played it again. And it was the best decision I have ever played.

@greenscheme20403 ай бұрын
@@peterlewis2178 You do know Skyrim will be considered "low res" sooner than later. Surface glitter fades. Great storytelling and quests last forever. And nothing is wrong with Oblivion's graphics anyway. It looks like a fantasy world unlike the boring, earth-like "realism" world of Skyrim. Realism doesn't belong in a fantasy rpg.
@peterlewis21783 ай бұрын
@@greenscheme2040 There's a point of diminishing returns though with graphics. You can reach a point where you objectively can't notice the pixels or polygons very much, and if something reaches that point then, no, it will never be "low res". Yes, you can have higher res, or fancier lighting, or any multitude of things, but the jump in quality is significantly smaller. The base graphics of Skyrim are lower res. They're over a decade old, and the age shows. But they're a massive jump from Oblivion, and for me, Oblivion falls short of the line and Skyrim teeters close enough at the border to be palatable, and is more than good enough with modding.
